Mo_ asked me to post this new topic about the POTENTIAL U.S. PRICING for 2nd Half 2012 (2H2012) Lego Technic sets. Using the prices charged for recent sets, he projected the possible cost of these 2H2012 sets (in US Dollars):

9398 4x4 Crawler: US $218.04

9396 Helicopter: US $105.26

9393 Tractor: US $37.59

Because it is difficult to format a table in a Eurobricks post, please refer to the attached Excel spreadsheet. You can see his methodology for predicting the prices above.

What?! That means 9398 will be hypothetically MORE THAN CAD $249. It should cost less if each PF costs approximately $10 and pieces on average cost 10 cents. I thought of getting it but now I have to wait a lot longer. Even 9396 seems a little over priced.

The projected prices are entirely possible. At Shop.Lego.com, the large 8110 Lego Technic Unimog U400 set cost US$199.99 (which seems reasonable), and the technology-rich 8547 Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 set costs $279.99 (with Mindstorms is reportedly the largest-selling Lego Technic set). *oh2* Inflation in the USA has been running ~3.5% per year, so prices are bound to increase over time.

Let's face it -- many Technic AFOLs spend a lot of money on this hobby. We asked TLG for pneumatics --> they gave us the 8110 Unimog. We asked for a lot of recent innovations, and they are trying to meet our wishes. They did their market research, so they believe that enough Technic fans will buy these 2H2012 sets so that they can make a profit....

Now let's try and predict how much Toys R Us will jack up the Prices...

On a side note, I wonder why Lego doesn't advertise more and about selling parts on their website, they would have to make much more money selling parts individually than they do selling whole sets... It's almost like it's a secret that they sell parts to the public...

I have heard this many times before and it just seems a little hard to believe... I know the Mindstorm sets are much more expensive, but my local Toys R Us will sell out of Technic sets frequently, but the same Mindstorm sets are still there...

We Brits usually end up paying in £ what you pay in $ stateside.

I would expect Tractor £40, Helicopter hope £80 (hope not £100 'cos I'd think twice) and Crawler £150 (i.e. Unimog money)

The tractor does not replace the tractor with log loader because the pneumatics were the best bit of that set, but it is a bit more substantial than that tractor. Effective replacement for 851 all those years ago - my first Technic set on my 8th birthday!

The Helicopter is better than 8856 so no real helicopter set to benchmark against. The lack of PF in the set helps the price but the bespoke blades hinder it.

The Crawler effectively replaces the PF Bulldozer at a price point (2x M + 2x XL replaced by 2x L + 1x servo) so we could judge from that what the inflation rate has been between the two launch years.

Well, it´s always worth waiting a little and shop around

I got the 8110 the day was placed on shelves at the shop at one of the larger Lego retailers here in Madrid and payed 179 Eur, which I thought was quite expensive, but better that a few days later that was raised to 199,99 Eur.

However my latest purchases, just to built up my stock of parts, on Ebay was much better than any local shop.

8070 70 Eur

8109 47 Eur

8068 17 Eur

cheers

So, if the European price of the 9398 Lego Technic 4x4 Crawler is going to be €149,99, one could apply a ratio to this price chart in TechnicBRICKS for the 9397 Logging Truck, to come up with these potential costs:

€149,99 divided by €119,99 is a ratio of 1.25. Potential Suggested Retail Price of 9398 4x4 Crawler could be:

European Union countries: ~€149,99 or perhaps slightly less in some countries

US Dollars (USD): ($139.99) x 1.25 = $174.99

Canadian Dollars (CAD): ($179.99) x 1.25 = $224.99

Czech Republic CZK: (2899,00) x 1.25 = 3623,75

Hungarian HUF: (35990,00) x 1.25 = 44987,50

Polish PLN: (549,99 x 1.25 = 687,49

Swiss CHF: (169,00) x 1.25 = 211,25

United Kingdom GBP: (99,99) x 1.25 = 124,99

Korean KRW: (119,99) x 1.25 = 149,99

Once again, let us all give thanks to Obama for destroying our worlds economies, and driving up our energy costs. Also for causing massive increases in the costs of manufacturing goods, and transporting them to market. And of course, let us also give thanks for his hate of all petrochemical companies, their products, and the derivatives which their products produce (like our cute little plastic Lego Bricks). Most of all, let us give thanks to him for making sure "Everyone pays their fair share" by increasing taxes on businesses, which they just pass on to the consumers in the form of higher prices.

Thank you, Mr. President, for driving up the prices of our Lego Sets! It couldn't have happened without you. You da man!

Since when is this forum a part of the american presidential elections ?

In that case we could also thank the banks, S&P, Moody's, the Greeks, the Italians. I could go on....

Prices will go up always, I will garantee you that even with an other president, the prices next year, and the year after that a.s.o will be increased more than the inflation rates.

I like the idea of $175 price much much more than the $215 price range for the US. I have a hard time justifying spending over $200 for a hobby.

and that is the internet price this site sells the unimog € 35 cheaper than at s@H

So it's even harder to say what the price will be

I dislike seeing political content on LEGO sites I contribute to for fun, and I abhor seeing this particular kind of bile. How have any of Obama's policies affected LEGO, a Danish company? For one, Denmark does not get most of its oil from us and it never has. So blaming his oil policies on the cost of LEGO is beyond ridiculous. Secondly, however you might blame Obama for the U.S. recession lasting as long as it did, there's no way you can blame him for causing the global recession we're now facing.

I'm not going to tell you what to believe, but please keep your politics out of my LEGO!

Let's get back on topic -- do the proposed PRICES (in red above) for the 9398 4x4 Crawler seem OK to you? Would you buy that set at that price?

I think 175USD seems more agreeable to me than the CAD price. $150US would even be better. I guess we won't know for sure until Lego publish the actual prices.
