Posted April 2, 201212 yr Hulk being my all time favorite super hero, I had no choice but to get this set. Let's see how Lego did this time... 6868 Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout Price: 49.99 USD Pieces: 389 Minifigs: Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, and Loki Back of Box. Here we have both FAZZZZZZOW and BTOOM! Great stuff. The Manual cover is pretty much like the box. The Sticker Sheet. This one's not too bad. I'm definitely going to use the "Space Invaders" one, though I'm going to put it on a tile and not the little flag piece in the set. I'm disappointed that the S.H.I.E.L.D. Eagle ones are stickers. I hate applying stickers to round pieces. I can never get them lined up right. I really wish those were printed because I think they'd really add something to the jet. We get three numbered bags and a little soft plastic prison for Hulk. Hulk is grouped with Bag 1 in the build. Bag 1 comes with Hawkeye, Hulk and the little jet. This bag all by itself would have made an awesome set. Just saying. And here's the completed build. It's a sweet little jet. I love the dark blue and the build is more clever than it looks since it has the cockpit roof that can be jettisoned. The controls are simply one joystick. It's put on a technic pin that is a little loose so it doesn't want to stay in one place and flops around. *insert joke here* Bag 2. We start on the main part of the lab. This one has Loki in it. Bag 3 finishes the lab and has Thor in it. Completed Lab. I like it. While not a complete building, it's a fairly decent sized playset. I don't know how anyone is supposed to make it to the computers above the holding cell, though. Maybe Hulk gives them a boost. Spare bits. Really surprised about the extra staff. Not sure that it was intentional. For the play features, see my complete Flicker set. And now the main attraction: Overall the Hulk fig is nice. My main complaint is pose-ability. Only his arms move. I would have loved to have him turn his head or bend at the waist. A turnable head would also have allowed the possibility of have a different head with a different expression which would also have been nice. His hair is also not removable. He does look impressive despite all of that. Really, I think Lego could have done a better job with this. I think as a main character, e should have more pose-ability than the old castle troll or the Wampa. The other figs. Loki looks good. No back printing or alternate face, though? Thor looks great. Mjolnir doesn't look as impressive as it could. I'm guessing this is because they want to reuse it for other themes. Hawkeye looks nice. The torso printing is excellent, he even has a quiver printed in back. I really don't like his face, though. The new composite bow more than makes up for that. Loki's face is familiar... Not the exact same print but it might as well be. What's the point of doing a new print if it doesn't look all that different from a previous one? My Marvel Heroes so far. My final thoughts: Build- Excellent. I really enjoyed the whole build process. There's a lot of nice parts in there. Minifigures- All main characters and they look great for the most part. Value- Price to piece ratio is pretty bad. There are some larger pieces in here though. I really think this should only have been a $40 set. I'm willing to overlook it just this once for Hulk's sake. My Rating: 8/10
April 2, 201212 yr Again, thanks for the fantastic review! Real excellent photography. It's great to see these minifigs close up. Personally, I'm not big on this set. As usual, the minifigs are nice, but the set is pretty bare-bones for the asking price. I'll be happy to skip this one (even if it means forgoing the Hulk minifigure...) Great review as usual!
April 2, 201212 yr Amazing review, CorneliusMurdock! I might pick this set up, mainly for Thor and Hulk.. I don't know. Nice review though! -Sci
April 2, 201212 yr Looks like a neat set. I like the Hulk, but I agree he could have been way better if he had articulation in the legs and neck. Also, that Loki head is Bruce Wayne's head, who looks similar to Lex, who looks similar to Superman, etc...
April 2, 201212 yr Thanks for the review. That jet looks pretty neat and should make a nice escort fighter for the Quinjet.
April 2, 201212 yr Not the exact same print but it might as well be. What's the point of doing a new print if it doesn't look all that different from a previous one? As for paying money for new parts is concerned, this is a bit disapointing but for those of us who would want to use it for comics or animation this kind of thing is great. Now we have 'angry' and 'angrier'
April 2, 201212 yr I'm all over the Hulk figure, and it's good that Loki has an face without the glasses. To bad it's not a normal face....
April 2, 201212 yr Thanks for the review, its making me even more likely to get this set. Just need to see the inventory on Bricklink (of this and the other Marvel sets) and the Aussie price tag before I commit to buying any Marvel stuff. That space invaders sticker is great, one of the best reasons to get this set (that and Hulk/Hawk-eye/Thor) If I buy this then all I need to figure out is where to get Iron Man... :)
April 2, 201212 yr Definitely the only reason I may want this is the Hulk. But he also has many problems, such as the lack of posability, and, WHERE'S HIS PURPLE TROUSERS? This must be because in the film he's wearing a different colour, but I'm sure LEGO could of given him the iconic colour. As for the lab itself, the pieces are very nice, that's why I rated the set above average, but again it seems like it'll be a set I'll expand upon. It doesn't seem like the parts/price ratio is very good at all, but that's what you get with a license set. I'm on the fence with this, it's the only way (For now) to get the Hulk. I don't know whether I'll wait it out just in case TLC decide to make another set with Hulk in or not.
April 2, 201212 yr Nice review! Loki doesn't look at all like his movie counterpart, and more like Superman in a Loki outfit. Nice Hulk fig, though.
April 2, 201212 yr Loki's face is. The new Bruce face, not a redo of Lex's. Still doesn't excuse the fact that its reused. Hulk hands are moveable.
April 2, 201212 yr Definitely the worst Marvel set in my eyes, but good review anyways. I might get this if I find it at a deep discount.
April 2, 201212 yr Thank you for the review! This is the cheapest set with Thor which is a shame since he such a cool figure!
April 2, 201212 yr Thanks for another great review 'CorneliusMurdock', I'm getting the whole series of these sets and for me, Hulk is one of my favourite heroes....do I show my age there ? One thing I noticed in the background......Shield powered by Octan ! (the two drums on a small platform) Pity Hulk isn't more pose-able, but the other figures make up for it.....ah, Hawkeye with that compound bow ! Brick On Review On 'CorneliusMurdock' !
April 2, 201212 yr Thanks for the review! It is good seeing these sets up close and personal. I am not a huge fan of this set, even if the price was lower. But I agree I would definitely want to wait until a deep discount happened (who knows when that will be). I don't particularly care for the Hulk in general, let alone this figure, but I doubt they would do him any other way. I did like the Edward Norton movie though, not sure why they excluded him from the new movie, but I digress. This set doesn't have a lot of useful pieces, but will be purchased only for the minifigs, which is similar to a lot of people. I will probably get it for completeness sake, but I won't be happy about it. And knowing TLG they will release a new Hulk set in the coming years that will blow this one out of the water. I am glad to get a Hawkeye figure, but I want him in his non-shield uniform.
April 2, 201212 yr Thanks for the review! I'm still trying to figure out what those trans-blue pannels are! Are they suppose to be windows or something? In which case, thats just awful. Hulk definitely makes the set for me though! And I take comfort knowing that in three years he'll be worth as much as this set is now totally warrants a purchase! However I'm gonna wait for may so I can get the little hulk to go with him
April 2, 201212 yr Nice review! I am on the fence with this set. On one hand we have some cool minifigs. Then on the other we have a "Home One" type set, with a central area and a vehicle. I suppose it is alright though with some nice parts. I don't think I will be picking this one up, although it would be a good chance to get that other "Hulk" promo minifig. Overall I would rate this set at 7/10.
April 2, 201212 yr Thank you for the great review. For me I would go for the minifigures. NEW HULK, LOKI, HAWKEYE, THOR. WOW. The mjolnir looked ordinary though, could be better with some wordings on it, as seen in the comics.
April 3, 201212 yr Author As requested by deskp, here is Loki with a couple of alternate heads. Lex Luthor's head. Sorry for the slight blurriness. Superman's head.
April 3, 201212 yr The price per piece ratio is even worse in my native England... that's the only thing that's putting me off buying this set at the moment. However, If I can find an offer on it anywhere, maybe if £10 or so is knocked off, then I'll be sure to pick it up. I'm a sucker for design, and especially, Hulk in this case.
April 4, 201212 yr As requested by deskp, here is Loki with a couple of alternate heads. Thanks!, I think Loki looks way better with Supermans head (despite the chin), Bruce Wayne's head is way too serious and Loki is quite a bit more of a fun character. I think I might put gold arms on him aswell, when I get him. Edited April 4, 201212 yr by deskp
April 4, 201212 yr Author Thanks!, I think Loki looks way better with Supermans head (despite the chin), Bruce Wayne's head is way too serious and Loki is quite a bit more of a fun character. I think I might put gold arms on him aswell, when I get him. I sort of liked the superman one, too. So thanks for mentioning that combo. I wasn't using it for my Superman anyway (I think it makes him look ugly.), so it may just stay on Loki for now. Loki's original head is way too serious, too. He is the god of mischief after all.
