Ardelon Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 (edited) Oh yes I agree, that makes sense, but if it's the case why is LEGO telling us there will be more sets? I don't get it. So far as we know, "Kingdoms will continue" refers to the Kingdoms Joust set only. Nowhere (to my knowledge) does TLG explicitly say there will be other sets. See the first post on page 34 of this thread by Artifex - Kingdoms Joust is to be the only Kingdoms set released in 2012. Edited January 18, 2012 by Ardelon Quote
Piranha Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I see what you did there... No wait it is coming back! Quote
Graysmith Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Such a shame they're discontinuing Kingdoms. While I haven't owned all the Castle sub-themes, just looking them over this is by far the classiest Castle theme they've done since the ones in the 80s. No doubt in my mind that these Kingdoms sets will be highly regarded years from now. Quote
cosmolon Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 this year will be new sets??? releases? only the joust??? Quote
Vindicare Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 this year will be new sets??? releases? only the joust??? Sigh...really? I bet you didn't read the thread. Too answer your question, no. It would appear that the Joust is your only Kingdoms buying opportunity. Quote
mephistopheles Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Help me to get this right please! Kingdoms is a sub-theme to Castles. Right? So if Kingdoms get discontinued can we hope for a new Castle sub-theme? Quote
The_Cook Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Kingdoms is a sub-theme to Castles. Right? So if Kingdoms get discontinued can we hope for a new Castle sub-theme? As far as we are aware the Castle theme for the next year or two is going to be Lord Of The Rings to coincide with the two hobbit movies. Lego have not announced any non-branded castle sets in the immediate future, although for the hardcore castle fans the Monster Fighters theme that is due to be released later this year has some appeal. SirSven7 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I shall mourn Kingdoms passing, I got every set and I was looking forward to more, LOTR will fill the hole but I was hopeing to build up my Dragon Knight army the easy way and possibly get a castle for them ohh well Onward to Bricklink. CMP Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I think after/if/when Lord of the Rings has ended, Castle might been a bit of a turning point. Take Space/Star Wars for example. It's been said many times the latter crippled the need and sales for the former, yes, but it's been proven they can be released side-by-side. However, after TLG got the Star Wars license, the Space theme was forever changed - new parts, new building styles, and massive changes in how things worked. While 'getting with the times' may have had an effect, I personally believe the Star Wars license had an interesting effect on the Space theme. Which leads me to belive that the new going-ons in Lord of the Rings might be carried on to future castle lines. Accessories are a prime example - every single original castle mold has been removed in the theme, in favor of the more pointed gladius and longsword, not to mention the replacement of old shield molds and original helmets. While it might be said those things are missing because Lord of the Rings simply doesn't have them, I think we may have seen the last of them with Kingdoms. Picture a new castle theme using the new swords, shields and spears - it's an interesting thought, at the least. Another big point is the horses. Most of this post is just speculation, but I am extremely doubtful we'll ever see the old horse in use again. Basically...it's my belief we've the last of 'classic' castle. Arguably that occurred in 2005 with KKII, but when Fantasy Era swung around it pretty much brought most of the old ways back. This time, however, I think they might be done for good. Quote
General Magma Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I think after/if/when Lord of the Rings has ended, Don't you ever dare to say such things again! Either way... I don't believe we got many new space sets when Star Wars was released, and original space themes were gone for several years shortly after that. They're either done with castle for years to come until there's nothing to interfere with it anymore, or might just have another theme while LOTR is still running. I'm sure it's not gone for good, that's just a very long time, you know, but I feel that they've done most that they could do for original castle themes. So I honestly don't think that we're going to see it come back anytime soon, and I know for certain that LOTR is going to sell very well, which also heavily decreases the chances of us seeing original castle themes again while LOTR still runs furthermore. While I couldn't care less about castle being gone now that the best theme in LEGO history (in my opinion - don't kill me if you disagree ) will be replacing it, I'm still thinking about the original castle fans around here as well - regardless of the fact that I can do nothing to make it come back, and wouldn't want it to if it affected the LOTR theme - but castle's done for, and for a long time to come too, I'm quite sure. For the people who aren't interested in LOTR but only wish to have regular LEGO castle stuff - I would suggest to at least take the LOTR sets into consideration for parts, such as the new horses, helmets, etc. and combining them with the other things we already have, since you could also just make your own MOCs and perhaps add some (back)stories here and there while still getting new elements for them. There are more than enough parts up for usage for the non-LOTR (or non-fantasy) castle people. So just get your rear-bricks over to Bricklink now and stop throwing yer tomatoes at LOTR! ~ General Magma Quote
Scubacarrot Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 (edited) snip *throws tomato at overpriced LOTR fleshies* I sadly think you are correct, I don't see Castle sets coming out while LOTR sets are out. This is just the way with it, I don't see the argument: Space sets come out when Star Wars sets come out as a particuarly good argument, since generic Space and Star Wars are quite different, while LOTR has the same themes as the generic Fantasy/Castle setting that Lego has been going for in the last few years. Also something to consider is this: it's very possible TLG had to sign something that involved them not bringing out products that would be too similair to the LOTR stuff. Edited April 5, 2012 by Scubacarrot Quote
Niku Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I would expect that TLG reuses much of the new molds as for the roman, statue of liberty, poseidon, spartan and minotaur for a Greek/Roman Theme in the time that LOTR runs. Quote

You don't have a Bricklink account?! I think I'm going to cry! Seriously though, we've had enough of those things. I for one am glad with all the changes being made, but if you really want the old stuff back, then use Bricklink to order figures and/or pieces that are 'classic' enough. Perhaps you could stack 2 light grey bricks onto each other with a dark grey one on top of them and call it a classic castle knight. ~ General Magma Edited April 6, 2012 by General Magma Quote

I think LOTR is going to be awesome AND one of the best "Non Castle-Castle" themes they will ever have. The only other themes they could probably do as a "Non Castle-Castle" Theme would be Narnia, Game of Thrones or Sword of Truth (terry good kind) but even then they don't have near then same cultural impact (Narnia is probably is very close though) I think that LOTR collectors will buy it because its LOTR. Lego ppl will buy it because its cool and Castle lego PPL will buy it because its still "Non Castle-Castle" related. I think that they will continue to release one or two "Castle" a year sets, just to drive up the desire and collectability Quote

Plus just 1 or maby 2 more waves with some Forestmen, Black Falcons, and a Dragon Knights castle would have made me happy, then TLG could have made what they wanted and I wouldn't of cared. But now the prices are going to go ^ way up on those pieces . I don't really find that humorous .
