Great looking crawler! Will you take more pictures of the axle design?

I can see that your Technic Skunk crawler is benefitting from the lighter weight of the PF Rechargeable Battery Box (even though it only produces an Output Voltage of 7.4 Volts) AND those 3rd-party tires. Maybe the Skunk should try to climb that concrete pipe from the other direction (right-to-left)....

it seems to be a combination of improvements. sure the tires giving more grip and ground clearance. then the lipo give a little bit more voltage than my eneloops in the batterie box. then i have raised the gearratio from 1:7,722 to 1:13,8xx. this was necessary because the bigger tires needs more torque. and last but not least are giving thew softer springs more contact to the ground.

@ efferman: I cannot tell whether your axle design has the SAME DIMENSIONS as the 9398 4x4 Crawler's axle (since I don't yet own that set). Is your axle interchangeable with the 9398 axle, but just snapping on the 92910 "Steering Ball" and attaching a few Technic pins?

It seems that your axle is NOT AS HIGH as the 9398's axle. Less height --> greater ground clearance. Also, it seems that it used FEWER PARTS --> lighter weight --> better Crawler performance....

hm, it should be possible. i will till tomorrow build a 9398 compatible version

the ride height is the same, it is only more compact and stable between the tires

edit: i have found a solution, every connection points, like springs and balljoints at the same place like the original axle

the 9398 C-model has shown that simplicity has big advantages. So i decide to kill the big crawler and and have optimized the c model with external parts. but there is only one question: is it a skunk or a black kitten with a white stripe on the back?

Nice! I use eneloop batteries as well! How do you think they compare to Lego's rechargeable battery?

hm, i think the eneloops are heavier than the lipo, but there is imho no other big difference in performance.

the instruction for my "no diff axle" are finished.

to change the direction of rotation at the wheels, change the tan bevel gear with the grey freerun bevel gear. if not, the front and rear axle will run in oposite directions

I'm SO ENVIOUS of the Europeans who have the 9398 4x4 Crawler set already, so I want to build your axles today with the spare parts I have on hand. When I finally get the 9398, I plan on having two sets of axles (one with differentials and one without) to be able to handle all driving situations.

Fantastic!Really cool chassis.Is it possible to remove pairs of L motors with XL?(1 Xl for each axle).And what`s the gear reduction before portal hubs?12/20?.Ok I understood.

it should be possible, but in this case i would prefer to design new axles. the current design is too specific for the twin engine setup.

the possible gear ratio:

1:6 actual

L > 12/24 > 12/12 > 8/24 > wheel

1:10 possible if the actual ratio is to fast

L > 12/24 > 12/20 > 8/24 > wheel

@ efferman: I like the overkill! The code name of "5to ra gl" must be abbreviations in German -- what does it mean?

I looked in your Flickr photoset and see how the four Power Functions Large motors could provide the power needed to climb that concrete pipe (with the help of those Ansmann tires)!

well the working title is maybe history, but it means:

5to = 5 tons of payload

ra = race version. normaly would be at this position stood a mil for military

gl = geländegängig (all-terrain)

it was planned something like this. currently iam trying to fit this body on the chassis

the concrete pipe itself is absolute no problem. but it is one to come to the pipe. the slope on the left side is very slippery, and the steps on the other side are very heavy to climb up.

i dont know if it is equal, but i have the advantage of a differential simulation, but without the disadvantages of a differential.

iam only know that yesterday evening the lipo accu are going into a practice strike
