-obelix- Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Thalion shook his head, "I am no expert, so to me, one small animal tracks looks similar to another but you are right master Sorrow, we've seen no frogs so far. But there is one thing that has been stuck in my mind ever since master Sancho mentioned it, and that is that he saw a frog that "hopped a little funny"... What do we do if that is the Ziegfried boy - Merlyn is his name, right? What if the poor lad somehow hurt himself?" Quote
Flare Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 (edited) QM Note: You guys aren't as conversation-prone as the fellows in my last quest, it seems. No worries, I'll teach you guys to talk Sancho continues to carefully follow the frog tracks, mumbling to himself and leading the party through different areas of the city. The ever vigilant Alexander notices a grey-colored bunny rabbit trailing after them. Anyways, it seems that this would be one heck of an opportunity to have a conversation and to get to know each other better. QM Note: Edited March 3, 2013 by Flare Quote
Endgame Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 To create conversation, you need to have some sort of event to remark about - right now, we're just walking down a street. Do you expect us to look at the clouds and go "Oh look, that one looks like a dagger!" or something? "Rather long street. Isn't it only a 30 minute walk across the city?" Quote
Flare Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 To create conversation, you need to have some sort of event to remark about - right now, we're just walking down a street. Do you expect us to look at the clouds and go "Oh look, that one looks like a dagger!" or something? "Rather long street. Isn't it only a 30 minute walk across the city?" Thats your problem, not mine. I'll get the next part up soon The heroes, not interested in discussing the clouds, notice that the tracks seem clearer than previously, followed by a loud statement of the same nature from Sancho. Quote
Zepher Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 OoC: There's nothing to talk about yet. Boomingham grumbles at the slow pace of his party, the lack of booze, at wizards, at the gods- who knows at what. "Damn wizards. Sending us to track down a frog. It's ridiculous, they're turning the world upside down. Next thing you know, they'll be telling us that the frogs have their own paladin order, or that there are ships that can fly. Bah. I'm all for advancement, but not through cheating the laws of the world." Boomingham gives a shrug. "But I think I've already said it all. Let's get that frog and move on." Quote
Flare Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) QM Note: Sorry for the short delay, my questies! Let's continue with this The party talks little as they follow their professional tracker slowly through the city. They turn right outside of Heroica Hall, and then another right before they make it to the Marketplace. Smiling Sancho walks slowly along, following the tracks carefully, but not moving very quickly. Therefore the afternoon wears on, and clouds start gathering in the previously clear sky. The party follows Sancho and presumably the tracks on a very long straight road. As they look from side to side, they notice that many people are staring at them as if the heroes were doing something wrong. Sancho doesn't notice because he's too intently following the tracks. Since Sancho didn't mention anything, the rest of the party also remains quiet, to not bother him or the peace of their trail. Despite their uncomfort, the heroes enjoy the trek through their beautiful city. The sights, the fresh air, the smells - well, the smells could've been skipped. By the late afternoon, the sky has become dark with rainclouds. Sancho seems to become anxious. "I thought that the tracks were getting fresh. But it seems that they lead into that dark alley-way back there. We've been following them for quite a while, this frog must've had a lot of energy... lets go look quickly before he gets away!" The heroes enter the dark alley without a thought because of Sancho's enthusiasm. It ends up being a dead end. The tracks seem to have disappeared once they get to the end of the dead end. The rocky ground seems putrid. It seems that there is nowhere that a frog could've escaped to here in this place. The walls are solid rock. Where could a frog go in a place like this? It's difficult to see because of the overcast weather. Edited March 4, 2013 by Flare Quote
-obelix- Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 "Am I the only one to whom this looks like a setup of a trap?" Thalion whispered more to himself then to the party, before he went over to inspect the walls of the alley, specifically for any possible loose bricks. Quote
Zepher Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 "Hope a bird didn't snatch him up and eat him." Boomingham glances up. "Barty, want to fly up and see if there are enough rocks jutting out for him to hop up. Sancho, hunter, where does the trail go?" Quote
Flare Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 Thalion inspects the walls of the dead end, but nothing was loose except a couple of brick chips and cobwebs that fell off when Thalion touched them. He does hear quiet shuffling noises, though. Sancho responds to Boomingham's question: "What trail? Do you mean the tracks that we were following? I don't know, they just... disappeared." Quote
-obelix- Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (How can the tracks just disappear?) Thalion looks at the party, "Any thoughts? Perhaps there is some secret passage here that smugglers use or something similar... Maybe we can push or pull something here..." Thalion searches the floor for any sign of walls being moved. Quote

Thalion inspects the floor near the wall. He accidentally hits against a rock which rolls away, revealing a small hole in the bottom of the wall. It seems that the tracks also lead there. From the hole a scurrying noise can be faintly heard. Edited March 4, 2013 by Flare Quote
Endgame Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 "Well, it appears we've got our frog, gentlemen - or a frog, at any rate." I go down to my knees and talk into the hole, my voice echoing around the thine little passage way. "Excuse me, kind frog! We are looking for a Ziegfried boy who turned himself into one of your kind - croak twice if you know of him, or croak three times if you are him. Don't worry, we mean him no harm - just want to reunite him with his sister." Quote
Zepher Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 "Fly down there, would you, Barty?" "I'm not flying down anywhere in the dark. That hole is not a safe one." Boomingham shrugs and waits to see what will happen. He watches as the undead talks into the hole. "You think the frogs will be able to understand you? Shouldn't we ask them in their own tongue? Can anyone here speak Frog?" Quote
Endgame Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) "I'm uneducated in animal communication... for all I know, they may just understand it and not be able to respond. Not to mention he is a frog made from magic, who knows what he can and can't speak. If he proves uncooperative, we can have Alexander have a word with the critter. Edited March 4, 2013 by Endgame Quote
Zepher Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 "Which one is Alexander?" Boomingham whispers to his little floating companion. Barty shrugs. "You're the one who is supposed to interact with all these miscreants. I'm only supposed to interact with one miscreant. You." "Damn young boys. Can't keep any of them straight. None of them even bothered to introduce themselves, though they all some how knew my name. That's the trouble with fame, I suppose." "Or infamy. The elf said that the undead abomination was named Sorrow." "That's fitting." Quote
Endgame Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Is Barty viewable to the the entire party? if not, disregard this. Years of training have allowed my ears to pick up the phrase "undead abomination" in even the loudest of locations... Hearing Boomingham's fluttering companion was easy. It was a phrase I unfortunately heard every day of my life... or lack thereof. "Here I was 400 years ago, thinking that religion was meant to teach acceptance and prosperity. Pfft. It is little more then a tool - no more, no less." Quote
