Yeah, the cockpit is the worst part. I also didn't like the lack of a passage. Any mods for that?

the passage was a disappointment ... but considering the structure, a logical decision. after all, the hinges are structurally important. i think i have a suggestion, that doesn't force you to change too much... i'll try to post a photo tomorrow, if i'm succesfull, that is...

it is possible to build a clear passage without having to modify a segment of your roof...

here's a photo... i basically dumped the pieces on the inside, changed the hinges, attached the section between the cockpit and the passage to the latter, got rid of the 4 x 4 round corner pieces and attached the cockpit directly to the roof of the passage... from the cockpit, you can see all the way to the door mechanism...

the modification of the brickshelf guy is more realistic, tho... you can clearly see that the real passage follows a different direction than the Lego model... so he was right to change the roof section.

see:http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=842098 and http://www.frazmtn.com/~punstr/blueprint/falcon.gif

he did make one mistake: his cockpit is too close to the hull. he should have made the passage two studs longer

Hey, my Falcon! :)

Hello, I'm new to these boards, but I've been an FBTB member for quite awhile.

First, thanks for the kind words for my Falcon mods! It's been a long process and even though I've told myself I'm done with it there are still a few things I may try, like a smugglers compartment or retractable landing gear (I don't think both are possible).

Actually, this was a bit of a compromise. The real problem is the size of the cockpit. I have plans to do a true minifig scale Falcon, basicly using the same cockpit from my Falcon mods. By doing that, the body must grow to almost twice it's size in the Falcon mod! So, the cockpit in my mods is way oversized for the body. In the real Falcon model the cockpit is flush with the side of the ship. Moving it two studs out would probably make it project out too far. But, you know, I might try one stud and see how that looks. :)

BTW, hasn't this post steered a bit off course? :') :)

Flail,

Warm welcome to our boards, I'm sure you will love it with us, even though we do tend to go way off topic sometimes (nearly all the times in fact :-D ).

You really did a great job on the Falcon, I want to modify mine after viewing your pics ;)

Off course this topic can go off-topic, we are still waiting for TLC to show us the theme of the topic, so till then :P

I also like your choice of classic castle for your avatar as well.  That was a great little set!

Ah, yes...a wonderful little set.

I am the proud owner of seven such sets! *satis*

Although, I have to say, in my misguided youth, I...uh....painted a few of these figs. *sobs*

Ah well, I still have about thirty or so left.

I've got 2 or 3 (3rd incomplete) sets myself in the garage with the yellow castle and 2 knight's tournament/joust sets in a box somewere in the garage. These were my first castle sets I purchased in Germany before they were available in the US. In fact, one of the shields of the knight's tournament set is inverted (meaning the colors are crossed (brown/beige)) opposite of the emblem on the knight's chest - if that makes sense.

That's got to be extremely rare - I wonder how much they're worth! :oo
