Capn Frank Posted April 14, 2008 Author Posted April 14, 2008 (it's not a double post if the second post is on the next page is it? ) Well, now that i've placed my entries in for the Pirate competition, i can resort my bricks (which i haven't done since making the Coffee Shop. ) But i got side tracked and got some progress done worth taking a picture of: Mr. Tiber proudly presents, the stern! (well, the first attempt of it at least ) The stern of the constitution has changed drastically over the years and there are multiple versions of the same stern on multiple paintings. This makes it confusing, but lets me have a little freedom in design of the stern. Here are the two main types of the stern of 1812 from the reference book i'm using: I do plan to put decals or something to have more stars and stripes (that was punny ) like to the left and right of the windows and the shield over the eagle. I like how it has turned out so far though. What do yous guys think? P Quote
Aaron Morse Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Looks good to me. The stern for my ship took me the longest to design. kudos! Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted April 25, 2008 Eurobricks Emperor Posted April 25, 2008 The stern is already looking very good. I like how that yellow line is done. Also the bird emblem is looking great. Quote
Wilhelm screamer Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 It looks like the cannon is able to slide back and forward on the base you built for it in your first post as some sort of "recoil" feature, is this true? Quote
Admiral Blockbeard Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 nice to see some progress on your beauty! i can not wait to see the finished item... speaking of which i was hoping to be going to Canada in a few years time, your kinda close to Canada so i might just make the great unveiling Quote
Capn Frank Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 It looks like the cannon is able to slide back and forward on the base you built for it in your first post as some sort of "recoil" feature, is this true? I realized that i haven't given a nice close up since i've finalized the design of the carronade. So i took some close ups of the growing number of carronades populating the spar deck. First off i've gotten further on the stern and got a good portion of it done. Here it is: Here's a close up of the portion i've gotten done: I've built up to gun port # 15 out of 16. Although the stern is far from done. Anywayz, about the Carronades... I put some guys around the carronades. They're from some weird ship that's getting built. The carronades swivel left and right, And slide back and forth for recoil. The actual carronades did this, the only feature i wasn't able to implement into these carronades is that they swivel up and down. but it's pretty good for lego i think. Here's a view from the gun port: Quote
El Bucanero Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 This ship is really getting more wonderful at every update. Very nice looking stern. Quite accurate for a first attempt. Especially the bloke presenting it is bloody handsome I just love your massive ship Is the ship now as long as it will be except for the stern, or will it be even longer? Quote
Capn Frank Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 Very nice looking stern. Quite accurate for a first attempt. Especially the bloke presenting it is bloody handsome Thanx Mr. T you handsome devil you! Is the ship now as long as it will be except for the stern, or will it be even longer? The technic beam frames on the top are pretty much as long as the ship is going to be. It needs to be 2 studs longer to get the stern cabin the proper length with equal spacing for the gun ports (i didn't want the last gun ports to be closer together than the rest of them) But i guess it all works out cause the bow is 2-3 studs too short. I'm really happy the stern is off only by 2 studs. That means i calculated the gun port spacing very close to scale and i don't have to rebuild most of the ship (again). There are cardboard cut outs for the interior of the top 3 decks that i made to have the proper angels and slopes along the entire ship above the water line. Below the water line is going to be very complicated. P Quote
Stauder Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 (edited) Especially the bloke presenting it is bloody handsome Most Definatley! Great progress you cucumber you! Do you plan on putting anything on the lowest decks? Stauder. Edited August 29, 2008 by Stauder Quote
Capn Frank Posted August 29, 2008 Author Posted August 29, 2008 Most Definatley! Any requests on your rank Mr. Stauder? The Captain's position has already been taken by ZCerberus. Great progress you cucumber you! Do you plan on putting anything on the lowest decks? Yes i do! I plan on having a complete interior fully accessible by adult hands. Although i'll be focusing mostly on the exterior before Brickworld '09, so i have something to present. Tomorrow i get to be back with my bricks and continue progress on this ship after being gone all summer. Quote
Admiral Bejaune Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 The ship looks great Phred. I can't wait to see the finished result. You have your work set out for you. Quote
Norrington Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Oh. My. God. This is amazing. For stars though, I wouldn't decal. Just put a 1x1 yellow plate in the hole, and it might look good. Quote
united brick Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I like the design, but practically speaking, how easy is it to get black barrels from BL or a similar source? They must be fairly rare and needing 20+ must cost a pretty penny!! wow perfect for kid play and authenticity you are breathless. Quote
bullet8542 Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 That is friggin SWEEEEET I can't wait till it's done. Go Navy! Quote
Capn Frank Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 Thanx guys. Unfortunately my computer just took a dump and so did my camera. So updated pics are going to be few and far between. This is amazing. For stars though, I wouldn't decal. Just put a 1x1 yellow plate in the hole, and it might look good. I'll have to look in my clone bricks collection to see if any of them can be modified to a star shape. Otherwise it'll probably be decal. I really want the star shape. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Thanx guys.Unfortunately my computer just took a dump and so did my camera. So updated pics are going to be few and far between. I'll have to look in my clone bricks collection to see if any of them can be modified to a star shape. Otherwise it'll probably be decal. I really want the star shape. What star are you talking about Phred? Too bad your camera is on holiday, i'd love to see some updates.. Quote
El Bucanero Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Most Definatley! That's carronade, not a stern mind you! I'll have to look in my clone bricks collection to see if any of them can be modified to a star shape. Otherwise it'll probably be decal. I really want the star shape. How about flower parts? I also think you shouldn't go decal, real parts are way nicer! Quote
Capn Frank Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 What star are you talking about Phred? I think there are some stars in the stern. How about flower parts?I also think you shouldn't go decal, real parts are way nicer! But those are lego. I've got a clone imperial outpost. There should be something useful in there. Quote
Thomas B. Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 You made a good ship Pickle, I mean Phred. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 You made a good ship Pickle, I mean Phred. Enough with the pikle jokes! Phred is going to come after us all! Quote

Guss Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 huhuh, this project starts to look amazingly amazing! the canons you did are great! but, why can't I see pictures on the first post ? ^^ Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Have you thought about engraving the stars into bricks Phred? I'm thinking about doing a similar thing for the Pris Willim... Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Have you thought about engraving the stars into bricks Phred?I'm thinking about doing a similar thing for the Pris Willim... Don't - The two are so cool that they are built from LEGO, that it would be a shame to not be able to say "This is entirely LEGO bricks. No modifications at all." Quote
Guss Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 I totally agree with captain Zuloo about that. I just watched all the post and I have to say that you're making something that maybe will be the greatest lego ship ever built ^^ and I don't want you to have to say that you modified brick ! just put 1x1 round little thing and says that's stars !
