smokebelch Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 I always love your photos smokebelch and this last batch is no exception. The chrome looks awesome with the sand and your blue sky (seriously, my sky isnt that blue!). My favourite has to be the sun flare one its really well done even if it wasnt intended to look like that Thanks Roncanator Yeah i like the flare one too- there were loads of shots with flares but this was the biggest- had to bring down the brightness a bit though as it was almost blindingly bright Quote
Rocky Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 (edited) There are some great pictures here. I took one a while back for a review and I thought it would be nice to share it here. It isn't as artistic as most of the photos on here and it is mainly meant for a joke. Here it is... Edited October 24, 2009 by KimT picture link broken Quote
smokebelch Posted September 18, 2009 Author Posted September 18, 2009 Quick new shot with my Battle Droids i picked up from the Daily Mirror Promo in the Uk. Not much of a Prequel Trilogy fan- but always really liked the design of the STAP's so thought id do a shot of em Quote
Commander_Rob Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Staps in the dark. Very nice looking, smokebelch. Oh, I hate all you British people for geeting these nice promos. But well, maybe I can get my hands on some. Quote
Big Cam Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 smokebelch, your pictures always impress. Do you take setup shots, I'd love to learn from you. Quote
smokebelch Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 Thanks Cam & Rob Do you take setup shots, I'd love to learn from you. Not really much of a set-up to take a shot of- usually take my indoor shots on a long exposure in a blacked out room (have blackout blinds in the bedroom). Cause this shot is lit with a small light source, and was set up in the middle of the room, didn't have to worry about a background for this as the light doesn't reach the walls etc. I'll usually just use a plain white piece of paper though, and then direct the light in such a way that i get an interesting black/blue fade on the paper for a backdrop. Usually takes a bit of experimenting with the light and the aperture to get a good effect- i'll often take LOADS of shots of the same thing adjusting the light etc. then see what comes out best Quote
fenris Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) Two of my favorite bountyhunters... unfortunately the Boba pic didn´t turn out as sharp as supposed, got to reshoot it another time... Edited September 23, 2009 by fenris Quote
Skipper 24 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Great bounty hunter pics Fenris. I love your Boba shot. the lighting makes the helmet look really contoured. On the Dengar shot the background is nice and also you have good depth of field. Oh yeah please resize your images . Quote
Danthebrick Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Fenris - the Bob pic has turned out brilliantly, even if you didn't totally mean it! Looks superb and moody. Quote
Big Cam Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I have to agree, sometimes shots that we think are mistakes or bad, turn out to be awesome. The lighting on that helmet almost makes it look non-LEGO. I dig it alot. Quote
fenris Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Thx all! The ligthning was on purpose, but as i'm not really patient in building a set where i can take shots without worrying about long exposure time because the cam is placed somewhere solidly I was holding the cam with one hand and my mobile-phone (for the red light) in the other... that's why it is a little too blurry for my taste... but as you seem to like it: perfect Quote
CommanderFox Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Man smokebelch these pics are Great!!! I really like the chrome stormie and the STAPs! Absolutly gorgeus fenris your pics are looking Great aswell I love the Hoth ones and the Boba one is AWESOME!! Looking forward to more from both of you. CommanderFox Quote
Smidy101 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Great camera work. What type of camera do you use. Love the sun set. Quote
fenris Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 @smidy: i´m not sure if you are talking about the boba-pic.. if yes: thx. the sunset is a red screen on my mobile and i´m using a canon ixus is 80.... Quote
smokebelch Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 (edited) Great new shots fenris! The light on the Boba one is great- very moody. Nice location for the Dengar one as well. Quick new Biker Scout shot- I do love me a nice monotone photo Edited September 24, 2009 by smokebelch Quote
fenris Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) Yesterday I really was up to taking new shots... and started wondering, what I could do... it's hard to find new ideas... there are already so many brilliant shots in this thread (mainly by master smokebelch - always an inspiration)... But the way you put colour in your photos via light is really new and brilliant! I do love me a nice monotone photo ...does Freud have anything to do with that??? Just realized that smoebelch took some Hoth pictures with sugar before... and again I copied (not on purpose... just saw them right now on your flickr...). As I said, hard to find new ideas - before smokebelch has them... Edited September 25, 2009 by fenris Quote
smokebelch Posted September 25, 2009 Author Posted September 25, 2009 Yesterday I really was up to taking new shots... and started wondering, what I could do... it's hard to find new ideas... there are already so many brilliant shots in this thread (mainly by master smokebelch - always an inspiration)... Thanks fenris- im struggling to think of anything new for some shots at the moment too, the green scouts shot was just a quick one cause i couldn't think of anything else! I hadn't taken a new shot in ages and wanted to take something new. I usually find inspiration hits when im NOT trying to think of a photo idea- when i am (like now) i struggle to come up with anything Quote
fenris Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Lately I was experimenting with fire for some Viking shots... but it's not so easy because of the flame size. It rarely looks like fire in minifig-scale (and it's hard to focus right)... I have one idea with reflections on water, but I don't really know how it would fit into the SW-theme... maybe I'll try to get some "funny-stuff" shots while having no idea what to do... A week ago I tried some shots with my At-St with smoke and a laserpointer aiming exactly at the canon to give the impression of firing, but there are to many things that are hard to control... (I nearly smoke a pack of cigarettes without inhaling and my knees hurt like hell after an hour of kneeling in my darkened bathtube....) Quote
4olic Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 That's a great picture. The fire looks amazing! Quote
smokebelch Posted September 26, 2009 Author Posted September 26, 2009 Nice Viking shot fenris- the fire came out wonderfully Here's a couple of Obi-Wan shots- Quote
RileyC Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Great photos smokebelch! I really love the simplicity of your photos they are brilliant. Also obi wan is one of my favourite characters Quote
bigfish Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 just joined and thought i'd share some recent shots. Quote
Skipper 24 Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Nice pics Bigfish . The detail on your close ups is amazing, the pics are extremely crisp. Quote
fenris Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 (edited) smokebelch: as usual... nice to see some action in the second pic! the fading to black in the background is perfect... never quite managed to do that. you are a light-specialist! i was always woindering why in god's name they can not produce light-sabre blades without bubbles... but maybe i'm too much into details... bigfish: nice pics too... specially love the "metal-scratched" underground you used and some minifigs we don't have in our "photo-collection"... and the first really good pic of the giveaway from the visual dictionary... what is the underground you used? As I´m in something like a non-creative-phase concerning what to shoot i experiemented a little more with light and even used my mobile phone as a window of a star-destroyer. Pleas excuse the fact that I´m posting 4 pics with the same stuff on it, but I took some 100 shots and really had a hard time deciding which are good and which are crap..maybe you could tell me... smokebelch Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 Great shots fenris Thats so funny- I was thinking of doing pretty much the exact same shot with my IG88! Haha great minds think alike I know what you mean about being able to pick a favorite out of many diff shots of the same thing- i find it really hard sometimes to choose which shot to put up. Out of the 4 stormie ones i think my fav is the very last one- the light from below gives it great atmosphere, really nice shot this one- very creative Quote
