This is good news since toys r us typically overprices LEGO as high as 10% extra. So this is like a legit 20% off.

Thanks for the heads up.

On FBTB it says that "the 30% off is applied AFTER the initial 15% off". Can someone confirm this? :look:

As pointed out, 10% off all lego merely makes TRU prices comparable to other outlets--for example:

4.LEGO Space Police: Hyperspeed Pursuit (5973)

List Price: $54.99

Our Price: $49.49

The "our price" is the current sale price--the same set is listed on SAH for $49.99.

As for the 30% sets--this would be a good time to get Brickbeard's Bounty if you haven't--it's listed at $73.49, which is a pretty good price. Otherwise, the rest of the 30% sets are ones I've seen clearanced at other stores months ago (don't know about Duplo). In other words, TRU is using this sale to clear out old sets (probably for Christmas room).

Hopefully the weekly specials will get better--

The 30% off is only for the sets listed on the fliers. They are pretty much the "old" types of sets as buckshot mentioned. 10% off is for online and 15% off is for instore.

That does not answer my question though (if that was the intent of your post). I'd like to know if both the 10/15% discount AND the 30% discount apply to those selected sets.

There is a new claim on FBTB that this is the case, though it may involve some hassle. It sounds in line with what I found out with a phone call. The registers show the advertised sale price (just the 30%), the handheld scanners come up with the non sale price (which is what I was told when I called my second nearest TRU), and the wall mounted scanners have the price that you would get if both discounts were applied.

FWIW, I went in last night and bought a few different things.

First Scenario:

-----------------

#8111 River Dragon

Advertised Price - $10.99

Ring Up Price - $4.66

Here the set was 50% and then they also added the 15% Bricktober discount.

Second Scenario:

---------------------

#6243 Brickbeard's Bounty

Advertised Retail - $104.99

Sale Price - $73.49

Ring Up Price - $73.49

Here just the 30% discount was applied.

So...it looks like if it's on clearance, the 15% will be applied on top of the clearance price. The 15% also applies to regular priced sets. For the sets getting the 30% discount, that would be the only discount.

Hope this helps.

Wow. Reading through all the hassle people have gone through, on top of the whole misleadingness of the ad, makes me hate TRU even more. :hmpf_bad: I'll stop by today and see what I can achieve.

Btw, has it been confirmed yet that the promotional brick is Duplo?

I will be showing each brick on Classic-Town. The first one is already pictured. It is a Duplo brick. There will be four that stack to make a picture.

In regard to the sale prices, the 15% does NOT apply to sets reduced by 30% (unless as mentioned above, by exception).

I still think it's a good promo (the sale, bricks, and other activities).

Thanks to this sail I finally got my first ever pirate ship! But they didnt give me the special piece for free so i might go in and ask for it tomorrow. By the way, the set was 30% off and it was not discounted a further 15%.

The Bricktober deal of this week isn't very exciting IMO:

Free LEGO 7634 Tractor with ANY LEGO Building Set purchase of $30 or more.

Expires: 10/17/09

I went to TRU yesterday to find that at my TRU I would only get 15% off no matter what set I bought and no free promo-brick. :cry_sad:

I heard one man give the cashier a hard time for his 30%, but apparently it only applied to sets that were over $100. Although I did end up leaving with some free poster for the Clone Wars it certainly wasn't worth my time going for sets I didn't really need.

I was actually looking at getting the tractor. Now to find a 30$+ set that I want and don't have.

Does this mean you can only buy 1 set of $30 or more, or can you buy a combination of lower value sets that add up to at least $30?

Argh, I should've bought my Separatist Shuttle there instead of at the LEGO Store (I bought it yesterday, but already opened it)!

There is something else you can add to this if you are a rewards r us member. I believe it runs through tomorrow, but there is a $5 off a purchase of $25 or more coupon available right now.

As a side note for anyone who is a rewards r us member and may not know this, you only get half points for sale items. It gets kind of worse, based on what I was told on the phone. Say you buy $500 worth of stuff (various items at various prices) and use a $5 off coupon, the whole $500 will only get you half points. In a case like that, split up your purchases. Now, having said that, I got double points on the buy 2 get 1 free sets a couple weeks ago, even though I apparently shouldn't have. It was a double points promo, which after being cut in half due to a sale, should have basically equalled out to regular points but I got double points. There system has some glitches in it, obviously, so this may not apply for everything but it is what I was told when I called about it.

You could buy one at TRU today and then return it, unopened, to the Lego Store using your receipt from yesterday... they are identical sets, so it's a legitimate return.

The possible danger here is that TRU sometimes puts their own stickers all over some of the bigger sets to keep this kind of thing from happening, so make sure the box doesn't have anything on it.

I went today and bought Drawbridge Defense. I got the free tractor and weeks 1 and 2 bricks!!! Even though the price of Drawbridge Defense was jacked up a bit, I still feel like I got a good deal.

Posades, I believe it's any LEGO purchase of 30 dollars or more.

I also saw the LEGO electronics and the special this week is free LEGO walkie talkies (19.99 USD value) free with any 50USD purchase of LEGO electronics. I wasn't overly thrilled with these but it looked like a good promotion for someone who might want the LEGO electronics.

I can't do that since the LEGO Store is over 20 miles away, and I can't drive. My mom probably would not want to take me back so early, too.

And also, all items in the LEGO Store have a price sticker on it, so the employees might see the sticker missing and not accept it. :sceptic:
