I would really like too see someone to make a custom riot and manalorian guard :sweet:

Don't you mean Mandalorian guard?

I may be mistaken but I thought higher up on this page i stated I had made a custom riot trooper :hmpf_bad:

Yes, you did, but we have yet to see this fig. So, how about posting a pic?

Thats nice but it doesn't have the color scheme off the riot troopers :classic:

Well, considering these were made before the episode aired, they're actually pretty good. I mean, who would have guessed there would be riot control troopers with shields and batons?

I managed to catch Duchess of Mandolore and Voyage of Temptation this week while at my friends. I'm actually fairly pleases with this one for many aspects. IMO, the animation for the Senate chamber was well done. Also, I'm happy Obi didn't just run the Mando through with his saber, which would just ruin the basic facts about Beskar armour.

Personally, thoguh, they should've had Astro Oddo as Obi little 'Senate Reporter' instead of Padme, it just makes more sence IMO. Also, did they really need to have the same Ithorian is every shot of the Choruscant chase?

Episode 15: Senate Murders

War on many fronts! While battles are fought by clones in the field, a different war is waged in the Galactic Senate. As heavy losses add up, a group of senators led by Halle Burtoni of Kamino propose an escalation of troop production.

Senator Padmé Amidala, recognizing that more troops will only prolong the fighting, works tirelessly with her allies to introduce a bill to cut down military spending and stop the creation of more clone troopers....

First off, Halle Burtoni? Please don't tell me that the character whose name sounds just like Halliburton (AKA the most evil company in America) is producing weapons or services that profit off of war... What's that? The person is a Kaminoan who wants an escalation of troop production? :hmpf: Well, much like the use of ethnic accents throughout the series, we don't watch this show for its subtlety.

On the plus side, the Mandalorian story is over for now, and I'm thankful. Now we can get to what the kids really want: Senate speeches :hmpf: Padme is using her political clout to try to turn the senate against the war. Is she promoting solutions to the disputes with separatists? No, she just wants to stop producing troops. It doesn't make much sense without an 'exit strategy.' Anyway, she's working with a few senators, including Onaconda Farr, to promote peace, and are rubbing the pro-war contingent the wrong way. Padme gets bullied by one senator, Mee Deechi, while Halle Burtoni comes in to taunt Padme. When Farr drops dead, it looks like Burtoni is to blame. But would that be too obvious?

An investigation is launched, and viewers are meant to hate the investigator, Tan Divo. He's got a nasal voice, a pot-belly, a comb-over, and is dressed like a fascist (ie, high collar and government arm band). Padme runs her own personal investigation, not having faith in the official investigator. The series goes into a detective noir mode, with shadowy meetings and a nighttime shipyard shoot out, followed by a fake out and some deception.

It's really getting hard to judge this season, since it's going well beyond the scope of the original films. We had a zombie episode earlier in the season, and this is a straight up noir. (checking the Wookie page, I see those episodes both have the same writers too) I suppose that's the result of making a Star Wars TV show, and having that much more time to fill. Star Trek: TNG did these kind of episodes as well. If it wasn't Star Wars, I'd probably enjoy it more, but it just doesn't make much sense as Star Wars. I want to see originality and iconography in the Star Wars universe, not Hollywood homages. The fantastic premier episode was a 'heist' episode, but it didn't rely on such direct homage, and instead put a Star Wars twist on the theme, and is one of the highlights of the series so far for me. This is very bland in comparison. It was well crafted though; the lighting and animation was beautiful. And it still has the boring senate stuff George Lucas loves. Rating: 6/10

Padme has a few costume changes, and wears this exquisite head piece. Again, we haven't gotten a LEGO Padme since 1999, I think. We really need a flesh colored update. A design like this would be fantastic. Come on, TLG!

15-padme.jpg

Here is senator Burtoni. The animation on her was lovely, really capturing the marionette quality they had in the movies. Not a great character, and an incredibly stupid named one, but we want a Kaminoan.

Halle Burtoni

15-bertoni.jpg

Tan Divo was a mixed bag for me. Though voiced by the incomparable Tom Kenny, the voice didn't quite match the face. His eyes are just a bit too big to match the rest of his design. But, I'll look forward to seeing him again. He had character, compared to the flat portrayal of others on Coruscant.

Lt. Tan Divo

15-investigator.jpg

And, reading the Wookie page, a young Mon Mothma is part of Padme's group of peaceniks. That is smart placement! I'm happy to see a minor Return of the Jedi character get some background.

Mon Mothma

15-monMothma.jpg

I didn't bother with Mee Deechi, since he didn't make it through the episode.

Lego Ships appearing: nothing!

Lego Wishlist: new Padme, Tan Divo, Kaminoan (doesn't have to be Burtoni)

Wheew, finally, the three political episodes are over. This story arc has got to be my overall least favorite in all of the CW series. What only interests me in this episodes are the new characters, ships and exploring more of Coruscant.

Those few episodes after the Geonosian storyline really were the worst of the season. A whole episode without a single Jedi appearing seemed wrong and unsatisfactory to me; Padme is just not tough enough (regarding her PT character) to hunt down a murderer; also, her plea to stop producing clones is really stupid and never seems like the right thing to do. Good thing the next few episodes are way better.

And one thing, though I'm about two months late: the Republic fleet in "Grievous Intrigue" consisted of Venators, Frigates and the Republic Light Cruiser, kind of a crossover between the two. It would definitely make an awesome lego set, so you should add that to your list.

Yeah, what was up with that? I was seriously considering to include him on the wishlist since we're kinda overdue for an Ithorian, but since he was just a background character, I didn't bother.

I agree, that could be an interesting set, especially if it has a good interior and some new Jedi/clones.

You're getting sloppy, "defzo"!

Hello. Uhm... Wrong topic? Bye.

Anyway, here's the next review:

Episode 16: Cat and Mouse

An impenetrable defense! Separatist ships blockade the resource-rich planet of Christophsis, trapping Senator Bail Organa and his relief Effort. Desperate to aid the esteemed Senator, a Republic task force under the command of Jedi Knight, Anakin Skywalker must break the impasse. But time runs short for the Senator and the good citizens of Christophsis....

This episode is another prequel to The Clone Wars feature film. It revolves around a prototype ship with a cloaking device. Anakin uses it to deliver the supplies for Organa to Christophsis, right under the nose of Admiral Trench, the tarantula-like Separatist who is leading the blockade. However, Trench is a smart fella, so he bombs Organa and his troops to put presure on the republic. And so, Anakin engages his dreadnaught, even though Obi Wan and Admiral Yularen (who reveals that he has fought Trench before, giving us a nice bit of backstory on him) advise him not to. The first attack is fruitless, but then, in a risky maneuver, he forces Trench to lower his shields and fire homing torpedoes, and uses those torpedoes to take Trench out with his own weapons.

This episode started out with a cool premise (a ship that can go invisible) and didn't disappoint. The action was intense, and the whole episode had a nice mood to it. Some scenes felt like those submarine movies, with the red lighting and the beeping sonar. Trench seemed like a competent admiral, the kind of character this show needs more of. Therefore, it was too bad to see him die, but knowing the messy continuity of this show, he might return some day. Anakin's arrogance got kind of annoying after a while, but at least he didn't do anything too stupid. Also, I don't feel like the possibilities of having a ship with cloaking device were fully explored, so I definitely wouldn't mind seeing this technology again. Overall, a pretty good episode. 8/10.

Most of this episode takes place on board the stealth ship. Like Filoni himself says, it basically looks like a giant, flying pencil. I personally could live without a Lego version of it, but it was a neat ship in the episode, so why not.

Stealth Ship

16-stealth.jpg

The only other new ship is Trench's dreadnaught, The Invincible. It's very similar to the usual Providence-class cruiser, but is supposedly larger and has a different kind of bridge. I don't really care about this particular ship, but at this point, I'd take any CIS capital ship.

The Invincible

invincible_small.jpg

The most notable new character is Admiral Trench. With his six arms and tarantula head, he would make a pretty sweet minifig!

Admiral Trench

16-spider.jpg

Another new character is this unidentified special clone pilot, a sort of predecessor to the TIE pilot. Kinda cool looking.

16-pilot.jpg

We also see Special Ops Troopers. These "Bose/Leia troopers" were also seen in Point Rain, but this time they have a black/grey color scheme to match the color of outer space.

Special Ops Troopers (I created that page just for this review! )

This is one of the episodes that makes me admire the brilliant strategist in Anakin (like his bold move in Storm Over Ryloth). His counter attack, though risky, is really very clever as they were able to take out the master tactician in Trench. Too bad Trench's character only appeared in that episode. I'm still hoping Trench is somehow alive and will make a reappearance in the current series.

One thing that I would really like TLG to seriously consider doing is the Special Ops Trooper, they have already appeared in the epic Landing at Point Rain and in this episode. They will be giving us a new clone helmet mold (ARF) next year, so I hope the next one will be this Special Ops CT helmet, which is relatively easy to do since it's just a modified clone trooper helmet with side thingys.

Indeed that is a great custom Trench minifig! Nice job there Forresto. default_thumbup.gif Now what we need is the official lego Trench fig, hopefully TLG will consider doing him since he's one of the more competent CIS army leaders shown in the series.

Nice job! It very much is the topic though. As much as episodes are being reviewed, the purpose of the thread is to see what LEGO is doing with the Clone Wars material.

Though the pictures aren't legally available, it'll be interesting to compare the T-6 shuttle and Bounty Hunter gunship to their CW appearances when they come up. The T-6 appeared in episode three or so, but the gunship is coming up soon, I think.

Yeah, that custom Trench is pretty good, although the head is ginormous, the waist too thin, and he only has four arms (not sure if it's even possible to make a six-armed minifig and make it look good).

In the very next episode to be exact. Oh well, we can always come back to it once we have official pics.

The way Yularen told Anakin that he thought Trench was already dead for a long time, I think it could be that he survived this time, too. Villains have the habit of escaping at the last moment in this show, and Trench was about the coolest we had (though I hated that clicking noise he made while talking ;)). Anyway, a very good episode, even if it's a bit confusing how many prequel episodes they have made by now.

And I do want that special ops "TIE" pilot. Very cool looking.

I just realised, the basis of Trench is similar to Thrawn, an alien mastermind who's race differs from most of the commanders on his side... and has red eyes.

Kind've I guess. They used one of Thrawn's strategies for the Ryloth space battle (attacking with the bottom facing your enemies) so maybe they got some inspiration. Hopefully Thrawn really is alive though :classic:

Episode 17: Bounty Hunters

The death toll rises! As the battles intensify, and threaten a growing number of Republic worlds, planets are left to survive on their own. While the Jedi struggle to fight a war on many fronts, a series of medical stations have been established as a lifeline for those in need, but the facilities are easy prey for Separatist attacks. After losing contact with the medical station orbiting Felucia, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano are sent to investigate....

To Felucia! The core stars of the show, Obi Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka fly their T-6 shuttle to Felucia to investigate a missing medical station. Quickly they're ambushed by vulture droids, and crash land on the surface. Being the stars of the show Jedi, they survive without a scratch, and make their way to farmstead. There, they discover a village of little green farmers, and bounty hunters they've hired as protection from pirates. This is all pretty early in the episode, and leaves room for action. The bounty hunters and Jedi fall into an uneasy alliance when the pirates are revealed to be season one's Weequay pirates.

This runs into an interesting meeting. The farmers, the Jedi, the pirates, and the bounty hunters, all with different motives and wishes. Nothing is solved, but the Jedi resolve to train the farmers to defend themselves. Through a series of montages (MONTAGE!), Anakin trains the farmers how to twirl rakes, while Obi Wan and Ahsoka have character moments with the bounty hunters. This leads into pirate Hondo's attack on the village.

Overall, this was a very well done episode. The episode was dedicated to Akira Kurasawa, and I suppose it was an homage to Seven Samurai, the seven defending a village. The action was great, in particular, the bounty hunter Embo is probably my favorite character to appear in the series so far. He, in particular, was Japanese influenced, in his dress and action, but he also had some moves that he can call his own, like the action using his hat (You'll have to watch to understand). The Weequay pirates were done justice after their disappointing appearances last year. Furthermore, the character beats rang true, like Obi Wan's interactions with Sugi, the bounty hunter leader. It's hard to create fleshed out characters in a single episode, but they manage to pull it off. The one little stupidity for me was having Anakin sword fight with Hondo. There should be no fight. Anakin has to be a much better swordsman. But this is a niggling, little thing. It is quickly forgotten when Hondo retreats, proclaiming, "This effort is no longer profitable!" Going in, I had trepidations, but I was fully sold by the half-way point. Rating: 10/10 I really didn't want to give another 10, but this is what this show should always be. I'll have to think about which episode is better, this or the opener.

This episode was loaded with cool stuff. To begin with, we see this vulture droid launcher, that holds 6 droids.

Automated Vulture droid deployment station

The episode returns us to Felucia, which hasn't been represented by TLG yet, so we'll have to settle for an amazing MOC by a fellow Eurobricker.

The aliens here are pretty generic. Nothing special in their design or characterization.

Akira

17-farmers.jpg

The bounty hunter leader. At first, I thought she was another stock character, but she had personality. She reminded me of Han Solo somewhat, in that selfish but not evil way. I like gray-area characters like this. She will appear in set 7930 next year.

Sugi

17-bounty1.jpg

Her crew included this fierce robot with a secret.

Seripas

17-bounty2.jpg

This lady sharpshooter, who was not fully developed in the episode.

Rumi Paramita

And my hero of the episode, Embo. He's awesome, and we'll also have him in set 7930 next year.

This was definitely one of my favorite episodes of the season. Not as good as Seven Samurai, of course, but still a good tribute to Kurosawa.

I liked the little aliens. Their little hats looked Russian. Their farming methods were strange, though. A harvester for such a small crop, though? Rare crops usually strike me as fragile and needing to be handpicked...but I guess that's just my silly illusion. Maybe they have fields elsewhere.

The battle between Anakin and Hondo was annoying. Anakin should have wasted him in ten seconds. An easy way to get away with a long, drawn-out battle like that would be to have Sugi/Obi-wan shout, "Wait! I want him alive!"

I was disappointed by Serapis. That suit was very slow, and pretty weak.

A really minor bug for me was the strange dimensions of their farming tools. The shafts were so thick I don't think the farmers could get their hands all the way around them.

Oh, and Embo's hat trick was terrible, as cool as he was. Since when do hats bounce back to their owners?

Still, small irritations. Great episode.

This is a pretty good episode I agree, but not a 10/10 for me, probably an 8.5/10. This episode is awfully similar to Season 1's Jedi Crash - same plot/story of a group of jedi trapped on a remote planet helping the local indigenous people against their enemies. The new characters are great to see, I also like Embo the best, he reminds me a lot of Raiden from Mortal Kombat. I remember one scene in this epi where Anakin had the chance to 'dispose' of Hono but he hesitated and freed the pirate. I would have wanted that they've shown Anakin during that instance his Dark Side tendencies (like when he force-choked Poggle before).

Oh, and Embo's hat trick was terrible, as cool as he was. Since when do hats bounce back to their owners?

Uhm, I personally think it was kinda cool. That hat weapon trick is similar to real-world boomerang. Besides, this is the SW world where anything is possible.

Oh, I've seen them. Most probably more than any average member here on EB, except those who prowl this SW forum 24/7. I meant I'd like to see how they turn out in first hand. Pictures can only do so much you know. :classic:
