LuxorV Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Hi all, I recently build one of my few historical MOCs, and, something rare in last months, found the time to photograph and post it Caius Julius Caesar went to Alexandria of Egypt in pursuit of his former son-in-law Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus in the last months of the Civil War. Unfortunately, Pompeius had already been killed. After an argument with the Egyptian ruler, elected in Alexandria by the Macedonian aristocracy, Caesar met Cleopatra (another rightful heir to the throne, already recognised by the rest of the kingdom) and helped her to conquer the power over Alexandria. Here I built and imaginary representation of Cleopatra's palace, with a small garden and fountain and a throne room: It all began with me wanting to try the technique with the PoP arches to make the fountain, then I enlarged the MOC and gave it some background story Some other pics: Two Roman legionari (soldiers) guarding the entrance from the outside and detail of the fountain. Cleopatra on the golden throne, with her counsellor. Note the front legs of the throne, made with the micro-figures from the 8684 Collectable Minifigs Series 2 Karate Master. Caesar and his Centurion. The yellow bar in Caesar's hand represents the symbol of his military authority (a vine rod). More pics on Brickshelf and Flickr. Comments and constructive critics are welcome. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Excellent MOC LuxorV! Your 'imaginary' concept of Cleopatra's palace certainly translates well in brickbuild and is truly a masterpiece fit for a queen. I just love the small details you've put in there - the use of the PoP arches for the front fountain, the trophy legs of the golden throne, and the brickbuilt Egyptian idol statues - all very cleverly done. Captain Blackmoor Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Óh my this is beautiful LuxorV! The palace looks great, nice colours, tiling and details! The fountain is awesome, but the councellor minifig really does it for me! Quote
Zorbas Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Impressive work LuxorV! The details you've put in there look great. The fountain structure is very beautiful and I too agree that the minifig trophies idea is genius. The colour selection is very successful too. The last photo looks brilliant. Full of colours, nice angle, just like a movie still image. The two Anubis statues are a great idea for a throne and the shadow from one of those turned out fantastic btw. Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 AWESOME creation 'LuxorV'.....but Pompeius head in a basket is missing isn't it ? Excellent custom figures and interior decor too ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
I Scream Clone Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Some really nice design work on this MOC LuxorV. The tiling lifts the whole creation as does the fig posing. Quote
Big Cam Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Very nicely done, I can't help but see Count Dooku from behind, but I just love all the alternate uses for the spartan. Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Nice job on the Anubis statues. I also like all the tiled floors with all the patterns in it. Good work Surprisingly enough I have a test this monday about the Roman Empire and this scene is in it as well Quote
Masked Builder Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Very nice LuxorV! It looks nice. Quote
The Penguin Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Amazing! It was just today that I was thinking that noone actually made a Roman MOC with the spartain bits so far..... And now we get such an awesome creation! Very well done, LuxorV! ) I just love your choice for Caesar and Cleopatra's faces! Caesar is really happy to see his future wife, I guess. ) But the best thing is..... yhe throne, of course! That is just a superb way to use those statuettes! It's a small (relatively) MOC, but is fuull of details, nevertheless! Great work! Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Wow, this is great! I love how you made the throne, and everything else is great! Quote
Legostein Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Hello! A fantastic layout from a more rarely displayed era. You added many unique details making this a pleasure to look at. I am most impressed by the statues standing behind Cleopatra's throne, they're just perfect. Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote

I just love the small details you've put in there - the use of the PoP arches for the front fountain, the trophy legs of the golden throne, and the brickbuilt Egyptian idol statues - all very cleverly done. Thank you KielDaMan. It all started with the fountain area and a very small atrium. Then I realised Cleopatra deserved a better throne room , and so I enlarged it As for the brickbuilt Egyptian idol statues, they come directly form the Indian Jones 7621 set instructions, I just used dark red jumper plates and shorter 'legs' Óh my this is beautiful LuxorV! The palace looks great, nice colours, tiling and details! The fountain is awesome, but the councellor minifig really does it for me! Thanks. The councellor gave me some thoughts, as I was going with a dark brown minifig and short blak hair, then I changed to the current one, which seems to fit the role better. Impressive work LuxorV! The details you've put in there look great. The fountain structure is very beautiful and I too agree that the minifig trophies idea is genius. The colour selection is very successful too. I agree, the last photo really is the best, and I'm really happy I could get the shot I was looking for AWESOME creation 'LuxorV'.....but Pompeius head in a basket is missing isn't it ? Excellent custom figures and interior decor too ! I'm a conformist! ! Thanks for the comments, lightningtiger. I did not put Pompeius head in a basket because they tought me that Caesar had already burnt it and shipped the ashes to the widow by the time he met Cleopatra Moreover, I quite frankly did not think about it Some really nice design work on this MOC LuxorV. The tiling lifts the whole creation as does the fig posing. Thank you, I Scream Clone. I always spend some time posing the figs, consiedering it the last, but certainly not least, part of every MOC. Very nicely done, I can't help but see Count Dooku from behind, but I just love all the alternate uses for the spartan. Yes, Caesar really looks a bit like Dooku from behind; but he certainly smiles more Nice job on the Anubis statues. I also like all the tiled floors with all the patterns in it. Good work Surprisingly enough I have a test this monday about the Roman Empire and this scene is in it as well Thanks. As already said, the original design for the Anubis statues comes from an Indy set. The tiling gave me some thoughts, as I was not sure I head enough blue and yellow 2x1 tiles for it. In the end, I had some leftovers, too On a side note, Caesar was the last big of the Republic; the Roman Empire started with his heir (adopted in his testament) Caesar Augustus. Very nice LuxorV! It looks nice. Thank you, Masked Builder. Amazing! It was just today that I was thinking that noone actually made a Roman MOC with the spartain bits so far..... I'm glad I could satisfy your craving for a Roman use of the Spartans Those micro-figures sure come in handy in many ways Excellent build, This is beautiful. Glad you like it, Lego Freak. Wow, this is great! I love how you made the throne, and everything else is great! Well, you know, the throne is what makes a throne room worth its name Hello! A fantastic layout from a more rarely displayed era. You added many unique details making this a pleasure to look at. I am most impressed by the statues standing behind Cleopatra's throne, they're just perfect. Cheers, ~ Christopher I agree. Before starting my MOC, I cheked BS and Flickr for inspiration, and I noticed an awful lack of creations fro this era. So I really had to do something about it, didn't I? Thanks for your kind comments, and, as they say, 'the devil is in the details': some of them were quite tricky to complete and harmonise with the rest. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 That's an absolutely amazing MOC, LuxorV! I really it! It looks (apart from some minor things like the bucklers) absolutely realistic! Very, very well done! Klaus-Dieter Quote
Flare Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 (edited) Beautiful job, you executed the build and tilework very well. Edited October 24, 2010 by Flare Quote

mikey Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 This is great, the tiles with vibrant colours really give a fresh feel to the inside of the palace. The fountain has a perfect shape with the SNOT arches. Excellent subject matter aswell, I love to see ancient themes portrayed . Quote
Lego_Hero Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 That a really nice vig becasue of the great color and details. Way to go! Quote
Cecilie Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Very nice detailing. I love the fountain and the overall look is just gorgeous Quote
LuxorV Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 Thankd for the latest comments I have been thinking on making a historical MOC for a long time, and with an Egyptian subject especially. The Collectable Minifigs Series 2 really gave me a good chance to do it, since my Adventurers' collection is very poor in that respect Quote
Commander Laquiet Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Beautiful creation LuxorV! That fountain with the PoP arches is lovely, and the statues are brilliant touch. The thing that finished the MOC for me, however, is the way you did the entranceway/doorway with the two dark/medium tangelo flesh nougat ( ) arches a stud apart. Fantastic MOCing. Quote
Honeybee Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 What a lovely moc, I like the choice of colour scheme it all blends together nicely, well done Quote
KotZ Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 That's an awesome MOC! I love the tile and the whole idea! Quote

You know, some say that doorway is not much Egyptian looking. But, in cosideration of the fact that Alexandria was founded by Macedonians from Alexander the Great's army, and that they went to Persia (actual Iran) with him, I think the use of a Persian-styled doorway is not that unreasonable. What a lovely moc, I like the choice of colour scheme it all blends together nicely, well done That's an awesome MOC! I love the tile and the whole idea! Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you like it Quote
