Clone OPatra Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 Okay, could someone explain this one to me? I thought maybe it had something to do with a chrome Vader, but... Although Brickus referred to the scene, the joke is that the Tie pilots are running away because they don't want to go die in the trench, I believe. Quote
Fallenangel Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 The scene in A New Hope, when Vader gets the pilots to follow him to the Tie Fighters. Yeah, the 'several fighters have broken off from the main group' scene... Ah, they run away as soon as he turns his back... Quote
Jedd the Jedi Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 (edited) Thank you for the compliments, guys. Fallenangel, the ronto is indeed a revelation. Legonater, another good one - but I think Lucas is actually more crazy than we think. EDIT: There's a problem, Brickshelf gives me a 404 error after uploading the photos, it's as if I accidentally deleted something...no worries, you are spared this time, but next time Superman! (shakes Kryptonite in hand) These are from another image hosting site. Be warned, this one is a groaner. And this one is a triple crossover that I'm way too pleased with myself for. Clone OPatra Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 Here's one that requires a little more knowledge than just Star Wars… Anakin's SGF But, in case you don't get it, here's a reference: (I hope this isn't one of those stupid America only videos, but I don't think it should be. Please tell me if it is.) Quote
Artanis I Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Here's a funny inspired by a certain revelation at Toy Fair… Look-Alikes Wait until POTC sets come out, and use the Elizabeth Swan(n?) Keira Knightley as Padme's decoy... Quote
Jedd the Jedi Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Artanis, great idea! I never even made that connection. Quote
Jedd the Jedi Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) Luxor, that's great - I like jokes that play on the fact that the clones are supposed to be identical and, well, clone-y, but began to develop distinct personalities as in both Clone Wars television series - and, in addition, an array of different, marked armour and gear to resemble how real-life military men dress differently based on rank, but mainly to sell more toys. Here in Singapore, the clone troops are the most popular characters. I think it's because we have compulsory military service for all males aged 18 (lasting for at least two years), and that we embrace the idea of an ideal, cool army. I'm due to go in soon, but am quite worried for many reasons. Tomorrow morning is my medical check-up by the army doctors, wish me the best! Sorry for going on about a personal story. Clone OPatra Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 Another Saessee Tiin joke, but I think even you should get this one Jedd. Monkey Attack Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Took me a moment, but great job, Clone O'Patra. Quote

Jedd the Jedi Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) Thanks for your comments Praiter. Cloney, I appreciate that you made a simple basic Saesee Tiin joke for simple basic old me! Took me a while, but I got it and loved it. May want to dust the monkeys off a little; but I sometimes used even dusty MOCs in the comics myself. Cloney, I didn't recognise the figure as the sassy gay friend until I read your description. You did the best you could, but he needs a scarf (wonder how that could be done) and maybe put a female head instead - not as an insult or slur, but in the same spirit of the Sassy Gay Friend comedic shorts. This one came about by accident as I was trying to assemble a Bond figure. I was very fortunate to have found my one and only collectible minifig thus far, "the Magician", at a thrift shop mixed with a creator set. The magician is about the least exciting of all the figs (especially since I didn't get him with his wand) but the torso is perfect for James. A tiny vignette/display base MOC for James is coming riiiight up. Edited February 21, 2011 by Jedd the Jedi Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 May want to dust the monkeys off a little; but I sometimes used even dusty MOCs in the comics myself. Yeah, those monkeys are sticky little devils. I brushed them a bit, but their main body feels like s lightly different plastic than normal, which means getting the dust off is difficult. You did the best you could, but he needs a scarf (wonder how that could be done) and maybe put a female head instead - not as an insult or slur, but in the same spirit of the Sassy Gay Friend comedic shorts. I agree that my head choice wasn't really the best, but I couldn't figure out how to do the scarf. I thought that as long as I got the pants and shirt right it would look ok, but a more cheerful expression was necessary. Quote
Praiter Yed Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Humour is not just about puns, groaners, cheesey gags or even shi**y boobs, it's also about making a point, a bit of 'social commentary' you might say. Consider the Stormtroopers, stripped of their humanity, hidden beneath shoddy armour, their names replaced by numbers. George Lucas uses these faceless hordes as cannon fodder for our hapless heroes, they are gunned down without thought or remorse. In reality each of these troops would have their own back-story, their own lives, don't forget Luke Skywalker wanted to leave Tatooine for the Imperial Academy, he could have been a Stormtrooper! With this in mind I present my comment on how Star Wars and more to the point the OT has been complicit in our desensitisation of on-screen violence. (I would suggest anyone with a sensitive nature doesn't look). Edited June 12, 2011 by Praiter Yed Quote
Artanis I Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 it was bound to happen eventually... Quote

I share your pain, but I just entered JC this year so NS's still a while away for me. Keep up the good work, guys. I check in here after a hard day at school every day to get a few laughs, it's a good way to de-stress. As for Legonator's Fett "I am your father" one... I TOTALLY SAW THAT COMING. Quote
Jedd the Jedi Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Praiter, congratulations - you have single-handedly made the television series that disturbs me the most and the deepest, all the more terrifying. And just before bedtime, too... Legonater, that's brill - I can't believe nobody thought of that before, congratulations on being the first! It will be interesting hearing Jango explain that Boba is not his "son" per se but rather an unaltered clone made in his exact image so that Jango could fulfill his dream of being a father. Lockon, thanks for your solidarity - I actually thought you were older than that because of the maturity with which you write, which, frankly is sorely lacking among a good deal of Singaporean youths (don't hurl tomatoes, now). Just to update, it went surprisingly well today - I was nervous but the staff and military personnel were professional and friendly, and the medical exam went without hassle. In six or so weeks, my certification will arrive, stating at which level I will be fit to serve, or if I will be "downgraded" or maybe even exempted, depending on the circumstances.
