Admirals barge

I got sick of the computer because it didn't want to do what I wanted it to do,

so I pulled out the bricks

I decided to make an Admirals barge, big enough to be rowed by a crew of eight.

the finished hull is 7 studs wide and 22 studs long.

it has a detachable mast, (which doesn't have a sail yet) so it can also do lifeboat duty's

an overfiew

the sailers rowing, two marines on guard duty on the bow,

the captain of the marines at the helm wile sitting on the doll board

(the clips represent the doll's)

Looks good! Id like to see a shot of the bow from the water line. For some reason this reminded me of The Fort by Bernard Cornwell and all the anecdotes of Paul Revere rowing around in his white Castle Island barge. Good book for those interested in lesser known naval action during the American Revolution.

I like the colours, and the use of these.

The only thing that bothers me is the edgy bow. Perhaps it's better to make a SNOT boat, or use a prefab bow.

Good luck on the sails anyway.

yeah the bow is very blocky, but the boat is quit small.

I will try a SNOT boat for the next one.

building it wont be the hardest thing I think, finding the pieces .. al my bricks are in one big box. it took me hours to find all the 8 clips yesterday. (later I found 4 more )

but I made the sail today.

not very fancy, just a piece of paper.

its a sprit sail, only I didn't have a Lego piece long enough to act as a sprit so I had to extend it a bit.

for those who think ; Hé, where is the rigging and the Jib?

there isn't. Liveboats don't have a Jib or a boom for safety and simplicity reasons.

there is also no rigging, this is not necesary because the mast is usually short and thick.

This is the picture I was looking for! I like the curve on the underside of the barge which is hard to do. Looks good with the sail. Only suggestion I would make is the stern looks a bit too square, dont know how you could taper it in though. You could also connect the two pieces of the sprit with a standard technic pin I think

It looks very good however i think that you should try and do something better with the sail or the whole mast. My suggestion is to your the sail more is the middle and higher up (so you might have the raise the mast and make two cross bars one at the top and one in middle so you can attach a sail) kind of like a frigate sail (not a sloop which is more like yours). that way the barge can still hold its full capacity without the sail getting in the way.

I don't really get what you mean with the sail.

I used to row in a boat like this, and the rig we had there was like this, only the bottom of the sail had more clearance over the doll board yes.

Also the lifeboats we had on the last ship I sailed on had a rig like this.
