Aanchir Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Hi all, Since this is my first post I might as well make the best of it. Technic 8275 - Motorized Bulldozer 8275.lxf Some things to note: The tracks don't match up, there is a gap on both sides. The lights are not aligned, this is due to the technic hole to stud bug. Also missing is the Yellow Pneumatic Cylinder Bracket #53178 as it does not exist in LDD. Everything else should be there. I am happy that TLG added all of the extra parts in 4.1! Only two major color errors. First, you have colored tan pins 283 Light Nougat (Light Flesh) when they should be colored 5 Brick Yellow (Tan). Also, the black infrared transmitters and receivers should be 109 PC Black IR, a color not available from the regular LDD color palette-- it has to be copied with the eyedropper tool from a file already containing the color like my complete LDD color chart. Other than that, everything besides what you mentioned above seems flawless! Great work! 6688 - Ambulance Year - 1985 Theme - Town LXF File -Wheels are brick-built. -Because of the wheels, some bricks were removed. -Decorations missing. Just one error in your model: the windscreen should be 42 Transparent Light Blue rather than 43 Transparent Blue. 6805 - Astro Dasher Year - 1985 Theme - Space LXF File -Minifig torso decoration is missing. One error here: You used brick 88072 (a fairly new piece) where you should have used 4623 (the older, slightly larger version). Remember that when there's two versions of a part, the one with a higher-numbered part ID is usually the newer version. Anyway, I'll be updating my LDD models to version 4.1 very shortly-- I've corrected many of the LXFs on my computer and I hope to put the corrected LXFs and screenshots on Brickshelf very soon (and edit the posts to make sure that new errors are taken note of, while errors no longer present are removed from the error lists). Aanchir Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Thanks for the info. I have updated the model. The color chart tool is very useful. I wondered what color "tan" was. As far as matching the official LEGO color names used in LDD to the more common AFOL or Bricklink names, I recommend either Superkalle's LDD Manager (recommended) or Peeron's color chart. However, note that neither of these tools is perfect because they're dealing with imperfect online databases. Often a Bricklink color (especially a metallic or transparent color) will be equivalent to two or more LEGO colors. Other times, a LEGO color may appear under multiple names on Bricklink. And even when colors are easy to distinguish, they can be mislabeled or labeled inconsistently (most often with metallic colors). So be wary that even if you convert color names exactly according to a reliable color chart, you might still end up using a different color than the one that actually appears in the set you're trying to build. No stickers. The hose piece 57539 should be 315 Silver, the only silver color used in 2011 sets. Yes, Bricklink calls it Flat Silver, which existed prior to 315's debut. But Bricklink is often dreadfully inaccurate when it comes to metallic and transparent colors. The Bright Orange ball cap should be part 86035, not 4485. It's a subtle difference, and on LDD it's not visible at all. I also see some decorations that you can't normally get with the decorations tool. Are you using my decorations file from the LDD Reference topic, or generating the parts with LDD Manager? Either way, nice to see people using either tool to access those otherwise-hidden decorations! Also, I'm so glad you went to the trouble of thoroughly listing every change you made from the official set. MMMB020 - Rose Year - 2010 Theme - Monthly Mini Model Build LXF File One key error: the color you used for the stem is 37 Bright Green, a color Bricklink also calls Bright Green. "Regular" green is actually 28 Dark Green. It's an easy mistake to make, but one you'll surely get used to if you do a lot in green. Quote

I saw the other post where my simple rose turned into a long discussion on Lego colors :) I was unsure which color to use, I went purely on appearance based on the picture available from Brickset. I'll update my model to reflect your correction, thanks for the info! :) Quote

The plane's front wheel should be 40 Transparent rather than 2 Grey. The plane's rear wheels should be 1 White rather than 2 Grey. The minifigure caps should use part 4485 rather than 86035. The window should be brick 3855 rather than brick 4034. I recommend that in the future, when building a set, keep the Bricklink inventory for that set open in another window. This way, you can easily check any colors you're unsure about. Bricklink's colors aren't always listed correctly in inventories, but in general some of these errors could have been prevented this way. All your other files seem to be built correctly, though. Normally I don't make so many models on one night, and when I do it normally someone post another model between mines... The tools in this file are not the right color. They should be 27 Dark Grey, not 2 Grey. The plane's front wheel should be 40 Transparent rather than 2 Grey. The plane's rear wheels should be 1 White rather than 2 Grey. Corrected. The minifigure caps should use part 4485 rather than 86035.Dude, it's the same looking piece. Corrected anyway. The window should be brick 3855 rather than brick 4034. Can't put Window 3855 in a 4033 frame... LDD rule I guess. That's why I use Train Window 1 x 4 x 3 New instead of Container frame 1 x 4 x 3. I recommend that in the future, when building a set, keep the Bricklink inventory for that set open in another window. Usually I build my models using Peeron/PICSEL or Brickfactory for instruction scans. Bricklink it's not quite "friendly" about instructions scans. This way, you can easily check any colors you're unsure about. If we do that, then what how are you going to spend your free time? Looking for figures on the clouds??? Quote
