Zeya Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Here is a MOC that I built this weekend that I call "Outpost Seventeen". (This title gives the impression that it is one of many, and also leaves the door open to make some other outposts if I want.) I didn't take a ton of photos. Here's a view of the whole shebang: And here is some detail of the top of the tower: As you can probably tell, most of these parts are from Kingdoms sets, and this MOC might fit right in with other Kingdoms sets you would find on the shelf in that line. This was my intention. I'm still new to MOC'ing and I wanted to make a small creation and not get too ambitious. The other reason for that is because my collection is new and small, just around 16k bricks, according to Brickset. I found myself running low on a few types of bricks, such as smaller tiles and "cheese wedges". I built the tower first. My first pass at the tower top was too narrow and bland. I also had some gaps on the side at the top of the wall corner pieces. So I redid that, and got the idea to stylize the castellations, making them taller and putting red tiles on top. I also love that lion brick piece and wish I had like 3 more of those! Next I decided to make a little horse shed / tie-up to go along with the tower. I started adding greeble to the roof using the technique that can bee seen on the POTC "The Mill" and "Whitecap Bay" sets. I found this really gave it a feeling of age that I liked. So then I turned back to the tower, and added some vine elements hanging down. I realized that really matches the stickered corners that have vines printed on them too. I also added some trans-green 1x1 tiles I got from the Pick-a-Brick wall to represent some moss in between the castellations. That's about it. I'm happy with how it turned out. People will probably ask about the interior, but there really is none. In fact there's not any stairs either! Maybe for a future MOC I will add stairs and a hinged side that opens up. Quote
Duke Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Nice little tower, it fits well into the style of the official sets I think but with some extra details. Unusual also to see a detail like a horse shed, but I think it looks good! Quote
Artifex Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Nice MOC - even better due to it's overall simplicity. In my opinion you put all the right stuff in the right places, as the trees and vines Looks great! Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Excellent creation 'Zeya', great little stable too ! It fits perfectly with the current Kingdoms sets. Brick On 'Zeya' ! Quote
MCNwakeboard Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Great looking MOC! I like all the foliage around the castle as it makes it look like it is on the very outskirts of the Kingdom. It isn't much taller than the Outpost attack (Link) but seems much for secure and authentic. I think it would have been nice for TLG to make one like this at a $30-$35 price point. Quote
ziljin Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Amazing! Looks like it could pass off as an official set which means its easy to replicate for less advanced builders and it can also be put together with other Kingdoms sets to expand the line. Quote
streifen Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Compact but great outpost! Is he defending alone? Quote
Abu Dun Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 A great creation which really fits into the line. I especially like the greenery you put in there, as it gives the whole thing a much more natural look, while it's not too complex in the used techniques Quote
Hoboman Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I like this outpost. I really like the "vines" and the way you made the look fit into the current theme color wise. Well Done. Quote
