lightningtiger Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) Layout After two years, yes two years it's come to this - the very final layout, the last photo shoot.....well, there will be one when I display it at a show.....but that's a long way off. Every building is shown either rear view, front and even overhead, so get ready because there is a lot to go through ! The Main Street Of New Mannum Town Centre Street views first..... Now lets check what's inside..... Well, that's it....the future does hold more MOC building but not in this monster....a new truck stop and railway structures will be the order of the day. So now it's back to both Town Plan and my new passion......Avalonia ! Avalonia Forever ! Edited March 26, 2012 by Phred Quote
Creator Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 It's great to see the final lay out after so many updates. It really comes nice together. Many has been said already, but the many details makes this a outstanding MOC with a classic touch. One little comment: I assume you need to finish the pavement yet (eg. in front of the police office)? Brick on Tiger ;) Quote

Brick on Tiger ;) Well, thank you 'Creator' for your kind words, the extra pavement - maybe one day.....though the dark bluey studs can be grave or alike that can be found on roadsides in Oz. Again thanks. Quote

SilentMode Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 All I'm going to say is... very well done! I know you've been working on this for a very long time, but two years?! That's dedication. Will we get to see the town with more people and vehicles in it, going about their routines? Quote
mifody Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Remarkably! But the city should be recovered! Quote
Capn Frank Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Congrats on your final layout! Do you have any overview pics that show this entire layout? The BS folder isn't public yet for me to check out yet. I hope you have more pics in the BS folder for people to view when it's public. Awesome layout! I really love the Ford Dealership. There are endless possibilities with that. Also the Retravision is a nice touch. Makes me miss my lego sets from long ago. LegoMan, you don't need to have an entire large post quoted for a reply with two lines of text. Delete out the parts of the quote that aren't relevant to your reply, especially images. Thank you. HighFlyer Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Fantastic layout, your various MOC's look fabulous together. My favourite building is the Supermarket Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Thanks everyone, oh....I forgot the entire overview.....oop's......I'll upload later in the day and drop a BS link in. Quote
Dakar A Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) This layout is amazing Lightningtiger, it is unbeleivably realistic! One qualm, though. It is so based upon real buildings that the exteriors, well designed as they are, lose some of their lego-ey and brick-built feel. Oh well. Great city, no matter what! L@go Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Personally, I'm not a big fan of your numerous updates, so I generally avoid your posts as your creations go along (don't take that the wrong way - it's nothing personal!). Seeing it finished, though, like this, is great - you're really good at creating small-scale shops. I really like the differences between the various buildings, and you've really gone all-out on the interiors. Plus, you're getting more and more skilled with the decals - that adds a personal touch that's uniquely 'you'. Well done, lightningtiger - and good luck on your next project :) Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 Thanks 'L@go' and 'Dakar A' for your feedback, sorry if my postings upset you 'L@go' and no offence taken at all. Hopefully tomorrow I'll lay it out again for an extra photo shoot and linking to BS for those interested. Avalonia Forever ! Quote
L@go Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 ...sorry if my postings upset you 'L@go' and no offence taken at all... Oh, no upsetting involved! It's just a matter of personal taste and preferences. I don't see anybody else complaining :) Quote
CptMugwash Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Hey LT, great layout, this may sound stupid but is this based off the actual New Mannum town? I can't remember if you've mentioned it or posted a real street view. Also, when doing your stickers/decals do you end up with excess paper or just print of a whole sheet of stickers/decals to save the paper? Quote

Also, when doing your stickers/decals do you end up with excess paper or just print of a whole sheet of stickers/decals to save the paper? Thanks 'CptMugwash' for your comments, no...New Mannum is fictional....except Mannum is a real town 60 km's east of Adelaide on the banks of the Murray River - where my descendant's first settled in 1840. So I made this town in honour of my family and the town they helped build over 160 years ago. How.....by building my own country town in modern times. Now the scrap paper issue, sadly the paper is 6x4 only so I have to get the sizing just right or dam, it's wasted again. Pity Officeworks didn't stock 10x8 photo sticker sheets ! Re-shoot later today (fingers crossed) ! Avalonia Forever ! Quote
scottwb2010 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Great work LT. It has been a real labour of love for you. Do you have a store with a "Pick a brick" wall near you to keep up with your builds? Quote
Busboy489 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Very nice set up you've go here! I really enjoyed looking through the pictures at all of the nice details! Great work! Quote
jaster Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 It is nice to see a layout that is not just a collection of Lego sets. Keep it up. Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 Thanks 'jaster', 'Busboy489' and 'scottwb2010' for your kind comments, I'm very grateful to everyone for their comments and suggestions over the last two years, a huge thank you to you all. Now today I'll find the time to do that extra photo shoot and upload to BS....I'll post a link later today. Avalonia Forever ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 Thanks for your comment 'bricktown', sorry everyone I forgot to take fresh photos yesterday I was working on a ute. Soon, I promise you all...fresh and even more photo's than before. Avalonia Forever ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 Seven months ago I thought that's it, but seven months later and I'm sitting at the computer trying to find inspiration for my current projects then snap......what about New Mannum ? I decided a major rethink of layout and building positions plus new more real life looking roads was needed. So I'll start today, so what stays and what gets shelved ? Easy, staying....supermarket, hardware store, farmer's store, police station, Ford Dealer, bank and post office. The town centre will be a side road running parallel to a highway, this was one of the original ideas I had for NM but never really tried to make it work. Get ready everyone, my town is back like old faithful.....keep watching ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 20, 2012 Author Posted June 20, 2012 Thanks 'gotoAndLego'.....I needed that spark of inspiration ! I will be updating later today. Quote
The Blue Brick Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Great layout LT. Two years, that must have took a lot of patience and waiting for brick link orders. I could never do that. Anyways, as many have already said, it has a very unique character that makes it look almost not lego. I think it might be those fantastic decals of yours. All of the buildings also have very detailed interiors which add to its greatness. I'm also liking the classic open back buildings for easy access and playability. I hope to see more pictures soon, especially overview shots of the layout. Good luck with your next project LT, and brick on. Quote
