WesternOutlaw Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Beware the hideous non-Lego Creature from the Black Lagoon! A small Adventurers/Divers vignette with some effort to utilize SNOT technique for the black lagoon: Quote
Rocketbilly Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Superb! absolutely superb! That's a Minimate, right? it blends in really well. I like the simple cheese slope usage for the wave/ripple effect, and the fishing boat as part of the background I'm sure I remember from a while ago. Nicely presented, as always. Derfel Cadarn Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 That looks seriously awesome! I like the whole scene and layout you have used, and the small boat in the background is an excellent addition Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Ooh, another excellent creation TheBrickster! Yeah I remember this Black Lagoon creature before from a previous MOC of yours and it's nice to see 'it' making a comeback. Great job on the SNOT base and as always the presentation is very professional. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Thanks for the feedback fellas - I did replace the image with something I liked better. That's a Minimate, right? it blends in really well. Yes - my only non-LEGO minifig. I had to purchase after seeing the Creature was available (I have a few varieties now (glow-in-the-dark, and b&w). I like the simple cheese slope usage for the wave/ripple effect, Tried a few things, even clear cheese slopes. Ended up with simple black. Glad to hear they look good. and the fishing boat as part of the background I'm sure I remember from a while ago. and the small boat in the background is an excellent addition I've still got 'er intact and I love using the old Rita in background images - thanks. Derfel: thanks for the comments. This MOC is nothing in comparison to your amazing Town creations. Great job on the SNOT base and as always the presentation is very professional. Thanks Kiel. This is my first real SNOT build. I wanted to try something a bit different. I think the finished MOC is just okay - I may try building a larger scene with more a classic design (my comfort zone). Glad to hear they look good. Thought so. I was reading a series of reviews on some Classic Monsters Minimates over Halloween, and I was impressed but wanted to see how they'd look alongside Lego. Now I know!. I liked Lego's Studios line for their takes on the classics, but thought a Gill Man would have been great. Maybe they'll release something similar in the collectible Minifigure series. I hope so. I think your final choice of cheese slope was the best, from what I hear. Clear would have been a good choice but I'd have gone with black too, if it was my MOC. It is the Black Lagoon after all. Also, another point I forgot to comment on before - I like the use of the single-piece palm tree.I rarely see it used in MOCS, and have frequently read on the forums how people see it as an undesirable "<insert that tiresome argument>" piece, but I like it in this MOC because it helps to add in little more detail and realism that matches the higher detail of the Minimate. Interesting point RB. I must admit that I didn't give the palm too much thought, but you certainly have a good eye for detail. I had grabbed this palm for convenience. I think many like the multi-piece palm so that they can make them taller and more realistic. While I've read some of the pros and cons re. palms, I have so few, I feel fortunate to have either (appreciating them for the green leaves). What I did realize, only after photographing the MOC, is that my palm is new brown compared to a dark brown shore line. It's hard to tell in the photo, but they are different. Quote
