Bob De Quatre Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Eurobricks and Rebrickable were challenged by LEGO to make alternate models for current year city sets. The builds had to only use the pieces in available in the official LEGO model, be made in LDD, digitized, tested in real brick and be a model a 7-10 year old could build!! I received set 60056 "Tow Truck" The set is medium sized with 227 parts. Many different parts, but some very long ones like 1x12 brick or 2x12 plates. Since the tow truck is a 6 wide vehicle, there is almost no 4 wide plates or bricks, excluding the creation of 4 wide vehicle. I decided to focus on two alternate sets. "Mobile Crane" "Sport Car" Quote
Simon_S Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Here is my alternate build: Pros: -working cable winch to pull the car up. -replaceable exhaust pipe, as seen in the second picture -if you buy two sets, they can be used perfectly together -almost all pieces were used, only around 25 are left Cons: -the garage part isn't that stabile and sometimes falls apart. -before the car is finished, it breaks often during the building process. The roof part is what makes it stabile in the end. Maybe build it upside down? Here's the digitalized build: Thank you Bob De Quatre for doing the render for me. I liked to work with this set. It has some good parts in it, the problem is, that it's very hard not to build a car with those pieces. It includes around 6 SNOT pieces, which allow many possibilities for individual details. It also contains some small parts for details, for example a lot of grille tiles, two cheese slopes, two 1x1 tiles and enough other stuff to make a cool alternate model. Thank you TLG for this challenge, it was a great experience! Quote
Simon_S Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Me want the car directly above. You can message me your e-mail, then I can send you the lxf file ;-) Quote
BrickterScale Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I really liked these builds. I like the crane a lot. I think the trailer for the sport car is a cool use of parts. I think the car shop has a ton of personality. While it wasn't for this challenge, I also made an alternate build for this set. Mine is a street sweeper. A fun set with some cool possibilities. Dman81Roberts08Dad Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) Please... how can I get the instructions for these builds. Although I'm a 33 year old, who has loved legos growing up, my 6 year old son got this set Tow Truck for Christmas... he loved building the Tow Truck with me, which took us 6 hours to build. I was reading the instructions, giving him the verbal commands what to build, and how... he did most the construction! It has sense "Crashed" and been deconstructed, and is now in his tub of legos, but I was thinking of other stuff I could help him build with the set! He loves building buildings, so I thought a crane would be cool. He also has a few Car sets, so that Garage set looked pretty cool too... If I could please have the various instruction sets for those listed here, Garage Set, Crane, maybe Street Sweeper, from the 60056 Tow Truck set, sent to americanman_4_life@yahoo.com. Please, thanks, Dman, Roberts dad. Edited February 16, 2015 by Dman81Roberts08Dad Quote
