Hammerhand Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Rumors of unrest and potential incursions over the Mitgardian/Avalonian border have reached the ears of Sir Brychan, and because his lands lie on the border, he has taken it upon himself to keep a careful watch on activity crossing in and out of Avalonia. Along with having checkpoints and requiring certifying papers for those crossing the border, he has sent a regiment of his soldiers to regularly patrol the pass Brotnað Liða, which is the only viable way for a person to cross the mountains that form the border. Some of the soldiers on patrol. Same soldiers... But from another angle... This is just a build I did today to get away from my task 5, which has been consuming most of my building time lately and has me rather uninspired. So I figured I'd take a break for while, and maybe start working on some more "tour of historica" builds. It was also an experiment/first attempt at doing snow, along with the leaning pine tree technique. (P.S. I was able take the pictures outside today, and it definitely helped a lot) (P.P.S. Brotnað Liða, ruffly translated from old norse, means broken pass, just so y'all know) Quote
Sir Gareth Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) Nice build. The pine tree looks great, as does the snow. Edited October 6, 2014 by Wildspeaker Quote
BrickCurve Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Great job on the snow and pine tree i'll have to borrow the technique, the only thing I would suggest is a different coloured background because the snow is hard to make out against the white of the background. Quote
HammerBro Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Very clean build and that tree! Nice job with the snow too Quote
Gideon Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Nice tree! I like how you've used the teeth as icicles Quote
Gunman Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Awesome tree HH. I agree that white teeth are well used. The terrain is also amazing! Quote
Tomsche Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Love the tree and a great atmosphere in that build Quote
Alfadas Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Very nice! Love those figs, and the snow bent tree looks amazing! Great work! Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Great snow on that tree! Cool figs too! Quote
IenjoyLego89 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Love that tree :) the snow is well done as well, love this build :) Quote
Hammerhand Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 Nice build. The pine tree looks great, as does the snow. Thanks man! Great job on the snow and pine tree i'll have to borrow the technique, the only thing I would suggest is a different coloured background because the snow is hard to make out against the white of the background. Thanks, and yeah, I probably should have gone with a more grey background, I'll have to remember that next time. Very clean build and that tree! Nice job with the snow too Thanks HammerBro! Really nice build, love the snow! Thanks mate! Nice tree! I like how you've used the teeth as icicles Thanks Gideon! Awesome tree HH. I agree that white teeth are well used. The terrain is also amazing! Thanks Gunman! The terrain was a bit hard, since I have most all of my dark grey slopes used in my task 5, so I had to use some light grey slopes, which I have far less of, but it turned out ok! Love the tree and a great atmosphere in that build Thank you! Very nice! Love those figs, and the snow bent tree looks amazing! Great work! Thanks dude! Great snow on that tree! Cool figs too! Thanks Vlad! Love that tree :) the snow is well done as well, love this build :) Thanks mate! Quote
Yzalirk Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Very nice vignette, I really like the tree and the figs are pretty cool as well. Quote
Garmadon Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Very nice snow scene, HammerHand, excellent tree and landscape! My only (and very small) nitpick is that the tree is being blown one direction, while most of the snow is sloped the opposite way. Quote
cablefoxley Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Lovely vig, cracking tree and you can really tell its a pine. It would be better if we could see the snow, it does get lost in the background. Nice work. Quote
de Gothia Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Wow! Looks great! The tree is the big icing on the cake here!! Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 The tree really makes it feel windy! Great build. Quote
Scaevola Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Very nice build, that tree is simply superb! Quote
Slegengr Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I love the snow and ice in this build, but the tree is the best part. That is an excellent representation of a wind-blown fir tree. Nice work! Quote

Very nice snow scene, HammerHand, excellent tree and landscape! My only (and very small) nitpick is that the tree is being blown one direction, while most of the snow is sloped the opposite way. Thanks Garmadon! Haha, I was trying to show that the snow fell off the one side, so it's being weighed down on the other, I didn't even think about the wind factor! Lovely vig, cracking tree and you can really tell its a pine. It would be better if we could see the snow, it does get lost in the background. Nice work. Thanks mate! Next time I do snow I'm probably going to use more of a grey color for the background. Wow! Looks great! The tree is the big icing on the cake here!! Thanks de Gothia! The tree really makes it feel windy! Great build. Thank you Carson! Very nice build, that tree is simply superb! Thanks man! I love the snow and ice in this build, but the tree is the best part. soccerkid6 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Lovely snow landscape The tree looks superb, I'll have to remember that technique of using horns pointed down for snow hanging off the tree Sweet figs too Quote
