DrJB Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) My first thought for a title was: 'Useless Technic Parts', but let's not be too negative. In any event, the topic is: What parts do you have many of, and no matter how hard you've tried, you can't use them in any MOC. Of course many of the Bionicle parts qualify, but let us stick to strictly Technic. The two I can think of are the rubber band holders, and I do have a large collection of those. Anything else? D3K Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Yeah, I too have a couple of those rubber band holders, never used them for anything=) Especially when I came back into Technic a couple years ago, and discovered bricklink, I bought a whole lot of parts that seemed useful/cool at the time, but I since never used once in a creation. For example: Steering Arm 6.5 - Not used, since the &L ones are more versatile This Dual Clip 1 x 3 Triangle The Technic Gearbox Half - Had a lot of ideas for this one, but they all turned out to be awkward and stupid I have several of these Rectangular Technic Bricks (in various sizes) - never used, but that's probably because I build almost exclusively in studless Also, although I bought a lot of the fairly new Technic I-Beam 3 x 5 parts, I have not once used them in a MOC Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I have never used the dampened shock absorber on any moc. I haven't even tried. I haven't used the rubber band holders either, and I never even considered those parts. I think I've tossed most of mine. Quote

I have also used them as prop pieces on mechs . Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I've bought several those pieces: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=89651 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=60176 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=64276 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=50923 I ment to use them for custom suspension arms as I saw nicjasno to use them. Haven't touched them for almost two years now :-) Quote
jantjeuh Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Hah Majkl, exactly the same here. Most of these Bionicle/Hero Factory parts are gathering dust here. Quote

Same, I gave most of my bionicles to one of my friends that likes using them. Though the ball joints are useful for complex angles. Edited November 20, 2014 by Tommy Styrvoky Quote
Jeroen Ottens Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I have a couple of these lying around: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32079 And these (a bit more commonplace, but still useless for my creations so far): http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=64451 Quote

Haven't touched them for almost two years now :-) I have few of those as well but I (personally) do not consider them technic ... They are for poseable figures such as Bionicle and Factory ... kinda like if you like building dolls out of Lego, then those are the parts for you :). Quote
Zerobricks Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Hmm I also dont use the old 6,5 suspension arms anymore... And I am kind of giving up on the old panels. Other than that I use most modern pieces except for the slizer/bionicle stuff. Quote
1974 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) Anything else? Liftarms, never use them (plus a plethora of modern parts) .. Edit : I do use the thin types sometimes (allthough I prefer the plate version, like 4264) and I like parts such as 2825/2905 etc Yes, I'm wierd old school Edited November 20, 2014 by 1974 Quote
Hrafn Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 The last one in particular seems like it should be useful, but I've yet to find a good place for it. Seconded! Quote
9v system Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 turntables never use them in my gbcs Quote
Saberwing40k Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I have many Mindstorms parts that I no longer use, plus studded pieces, and 40 toothed gears. And 14 tooth gears. Come to think of it, I barely use any old style pieces at all. I don't use Technic plates either. Quote
N-4K0 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 To be fair, I dislike old studded parts from the 80's, so I don't use such parts. With the exception of some plates, and trans-clear and trans-colored plates as vehicle lights, I only use modern studless parts. Quote
Carsten Svendsen Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Even though I agree with Bionicle pieces being rather useless in normal circumstances, I think that these pieces look really useful but I have never really found a use them. Quote

That's exactly what everyone says whenever these three (especially the last one) are brought up Yet noone seems to have found a proper use for them so far. The first one was used in 8421 to strengthen the boom tip though. Edited November 22, 2014 by jantjeuh Quote
Philo Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 The third makes a good bracket to mount a M motor... Quote

The first one was used in 8421 to strengthen the boom tip though. I used the third one in my (still WIP) Liebherr LTM11200. It is used to brace the connection between the upperstructure and the (two-way adjustable) arm that holds the (one-way adjustable) operator cabin. It was an almost perfect fit for the connection I wanted to make. (Three functions going through + a lot of mechanical torque + very limited space --> one-piece solution). This is actually also a very nice piece that I only used once (in my F14 Tomcat): Quote
jantjeuh Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 The third makes a good bracket to mount a M motor... I don't see it, can you make an LXF or equivalent of what you mean? Quote
Philo Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 ...now I must admit I never used that in any project... Quote
Technyk32231 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Look at Mahjqa's stuff. He uses parts like this a lot. Quote

The second one (above) was used by mahjqa in one of his vehicles, the metal grudge. A very clever use though. Above post beat me to it by mere seconds ... Edited November 22, 2014 by DrJB Quote
Erik Leppen Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I have never needed them once in the ~15 years I now own them. Quote
