soccerkid6 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) Here is my entry to Category C of Challenge III. Hope you enjoy the builds, especially Slowbelly Keep which was my big project of the year. And I tried some new stuff with it, including SNOT walled buildings with interiors. The events here take place just after my Category A build: link. Several dwarven clans had been given the mission of invading Avalonia from above ground while others advanced through tunnels. So far everything was going as planned for the dwarves. The groups on the surface used tents to set up temporary camps as they journeyed to the border: Thanks to Jonathan, Glorfindel now had a good idea of what the dwarves' plans were, but he still needed more specific information so that he could stop the dwarves before they crossed the border. Therefore he payed a visit to Kenan, the candlemaker in Hradheim, and one of the best sources of information in Mitardia: Hradheim was located just south of Amortug, which made it easy for Kenan or his apprentices to pick up bits of information about the dwarven invasion from dwarves traveling through the town. Kenan was able to supply Glorfindel with the routes several dwarven clans were taking to infiltrate Avalonia, and which clans were most in favor of the attack and which were just going along with the others. Realizing that quick action was called for, Glorfindel dispatched messengers to arrange a meeting involving Elves, Dwarves, and Men at the great hall in Fjollum, a city located almost on top of the Mitgardia/Avalonia border and often used for diplomatic meetings. Then Glorfindel himself led a group of calvary to capture the Anarfell clan leader, one of the staunchest supporters of the invasion: Surrounded and outnumbered, even the stubborn dwarves realized that surrender was the only option. After disarming the group, Glorfindel and his men escorted the dwarves to deserted Slowbelly Keep (rumoured to have been the cage of Slowbelly the dragon in ages past), which would serve as their temporary prison. After securing the prisoners and mounting a fresh horse, Glorfindel rode for Fjollum... See here for continuation of story. A section of the dwarven army had already reached Avalonia and moved into place to besiege Myrr Castle, a strategically placed stronghold vital to the success of the invasion. The dwarven siege engines were in place and they had already made good progress on a tunnel under the castle, when a dwarven messenger mounted on a warg charged in to deliver news. Fortunately the message arrived in time to prevent bloodshed. The catapult and ballista work, watch here: And you can see a video of the build process as well: And that concludes my Challenge III builds. C&C appreciated Edited February 6, 2015 by soccerkid6 Quote
kabel Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Massive! Best stuff ever done by you. It's gonna take ages to figure out all the details ... Quote
MKJoshA Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Incredible! I wish you were on the side of the dwarves, but that's my only complaint Quote
Graham Gidman Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Stunning builds! So much to love in each one of them! Quote

Thanks kabel I figured I should go all out for the Mitgardian based challenge Incredible! I wish you were on the side of the dwarves, but that's my only complaint Thanks MKJ! And I wish you were on the side of the men Stunning builds! So much to love in each one of them! Thanks Graham! Quote
IenjoyLego89 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Amazing builds and great story I really like the keep, some great techniques Quote
Alfadas Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Amazing! All those build are just amazing! Quote
mccoyed Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 You're so good at all the tiniest details, SK. My favorite thing in the builds is of course that, especially furniture and the like, as well as those wonderful and colorful brick-built tents. Slowbelly Keep is excellent and I can foresee the SNOT techniques you used being emulated by other builders in days to come. It works very well for a decrepit, ruined feel and therefore has a lot of differentiation from your usual cleaner looking castle builds. Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Wow. This is huge... at first I thought I was to comment on the three tents but then there was more and more - and a story around it. Very well done. Other people would turn this into seven different posts There's a lot to check out and learn about in your pictures. E.g. the base of one tower of Slowbelly Keep comes at a certain angle and I haven't yet figured out how you did that. Then there is nice furniture, great castle window design examples, a wonderful city scene, and more and more and more. Quote
Kai NRG Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Quite a collection of great builds here, the castle of course is very impressive and the shapes of the different tents are well executed! My favorite would be the candle maker's however, excellent work! Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I love this! The story is good, but the builds are really top notch. The candle makers is my favorite as well. Quote
mrcp6d Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I'm starting to wonder if you've really got an moccing machine somewhere.... While all of these builds are excellent, and I really like the decrepit sections of the castle, my favorite of this series is definitely the tent dio. Fantastic work there. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 Amazing builds and great story I really like the keep, some great techniques Thanks! I think the keep is my best castle yet, I tried a lot of new stuff (for me at least) with it Amazing! All those build are just amazing! Thanks Alfadas, I always enjoy your comments You're so good at all the tiniest details, SK. It works very well for a decrepit, ruined feel and therefore has a lot of differentiation from your usual cleaner looking castle builds. Thanks mccoyed The brick built tents were an interesting challenge, and a nice excuse to use some bright colors. There's another build coming for this category that also futures SNOT walls, and I've been surprised how easily (for the most part anyways ) they come together. Wow. This is huge... at first I thought I was to comment on the three tents but then there was more and more - and a story around it. Very well done. Then there is nice furniture, great castle window design examples, a wonderful city scene, and more and more and more. Thanks! The angled base of that tower is made by using these: at the base of the tower, then building walls on top that get angled back a bit. The tricky part is getting the corners to work, which I solved by using tall slopes and then a 1x1 brick column at the very corner just sitting in place. Quite a collection of great builds here, the castle of course is very impressive and the shapes of the different tents are well executed! My favorite would be the candle maker's however, excellent work! Thanks Kai, and that shop has become one of my all-time favorites as well. I even kept it together a few weeks. I love this! The story is good, but the builds are really top notch. The candle makers is my favorite as well. Thanks Carson! I'm starting to wonder if you've really got an moccing machine somewhere.... While all of these builds are excellent, and I really like the decrepit sections of the castle, my favorite of this series is definitely the tent dio. Fantastic work there. Shh...don't tell anyone Glad you like the tent scene, it was very different from most of my scenes Quote
Garmadon Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Excellent builds SK, tons of great details Great job in particular with the candle makers shop though Quote

MassEditor Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 (edited) Oh my, what an epic entry! Truly stunning work in each one of these builds. You have simply outdone yourself, and as others mentioned, it will take many views to fully appreciate everything you've done here. Each build is amazing in its own rights, but together taken together this entry is truly out of this world. There's way too many to name them all, but some of my favorite highlights are the windows projecting from the walls of Slowbelly Keep, the brickbuilt tents, the siege and tunneling scene (I dare say my favorite part of this build!) and of course all the little details which really make this a top notch series of builds. SK, you are a true inspiration for GoH and never cease to amaze me! I'm starting to wonder if you've really got an moccing machine somewhere.... No kidding! SK, have you chained up your little brother and forced him to do some of your building bidding? In any case, I know what I'll be doing the rest of my morning at work - gazing at these beauties! I also will be inspecting these builds in more detail, as there is just so much to take in! I remember seeing the builds for the CCC, and I am glad to see that they can be used for a most excellent entry to the GoH challenge as well! Quote
