Hi Everyone,

I would like to present a recent project: "Dunehill Castle".

Dunehill Castle is located in the northwest of the Siccus desert in Kaliphlin.

The castle's guards have sworn to protect caravan routes through the desert against rogues and robber bands.

Major Sirius Artanc leads his men into battle (if need be).

You can find Sirius on the fourth picture, on the right.

The idea to "Dunehill Castle" was threefold:

First to create a cubic castle (similar to Coltherstone Castle Keep by frumpy),

secondly to avoid my usual light grey/dark grey slopes but to use tan/dark tan for the rocky bits,

thirdly to try some decent glass windows.

And fourthly I needed to add a monkey because many people have asked me where my "iconic figures" have disappeared.

So, let us move to the glass windows:

I don't know whether you are familiar with "La Sagrada Familia" in Barcelona. I saw it a few months ago and was overwhelmed by the colours and lights.

So this is why I used a red/orange and a blue window for the castle.

.. and I have used all light grey legs I could find

I hope you like this and I am awaiting your feedback!

Edit:

I would like to claim UoP credits for:

Architecture

wall techniques

advanced windows and window frames

Landscape Design

sand dunes

Anthropology

life in Kaliphlin

The interior is wonderful! I think the stained glass windows came out great but I have to say my favorite part of the build is the tan/dark tan for the landscape and light grey for the castle-- I don't think I've ever seen that before and I really like it.

Ah, the monkeys are back - careful, the little beasties :monkey: will take over the whole castle in no time at all - or have they already.

Nicely built! I like the way it is set into tan landscape for a change.

Where is the dragon :dwacko: ? Or is he - maybe - afraid of monkeys?

Awesome build Captain Braunsfeld, you've been on a serious building-binge lately! Dunehill Castle looks great. The environment is a very unique setting for this kind of castle, neat idea! So much to appreciate here, but those interior scenes take the cake for me. The floor designs, glass windows and other interior details are first class work. Man, that cactus is great too - I've never seen one that well done! The exterior is well-done too, the various windows, arrow slits and other exterior touches work really well.

I would have liked to see you do more of the SNOT-type rockwork like you did to the right of the draw bridge. I think that type of rockwork looks awesome and gives a much more realistic "dune-look." The studs-up rockwork seems a little too rugged and rocky for what I think you are going for here. I would suggest toning down some of the colors around the dunes too, the dark red and dark orange bits look a little out of place. Other than that, top notch work sir!

Also, I saw you are claiming UoP credits. I'm thinking you meant to post this in the Guilds forum?

Ok, let me answer this in a structured way:

First of all thanks for the positive feedback :sweet::laugh:

The cactus: Well, once the pictures were done, I realized that the plate in front was not aligned anymore... :cry_sad:

The SNOT-type rockwork: That was a "premiere" for me. First time I tried this and this is also why it only happened in a small part of the landscape.

It is actually an idea for a redesign to do the whole front bit in SNOT-type.

UoP credits: I probably should have posted in the guilds forum, but having decided to support Mitgardia I thought I cannot post something that might fit into Avalonia.

Or would that have been ok?

"Dark red": This is not dark red. It is this "redder than dark tan" colour (whatever name TLG have chosen).

and reddish brown is in there. But maybe you're right and I should take them out.

The above pic gives you a chance to look at the ill "creek" flowing there outside the rainy season.

And here's an overview of the rear side:

This is an excellent castle. I really like how you are improving at such a tremendous rate. And yes, I too think this would have fit in the GoH world, probably in Northern Kaliphlin. You know, we all build in the other territories when we feel like it. You could adjust the story a little and I could move this into the GoH forum if you want me to!

Ok, I have edited the text - can you pls. move it?

Thanks!

Great work here, the height of this is pretty imposing and I like the addition of an interior, plus an underground! Nice job with the stained glass too!

Beautiful castle with a classic feel. Just goes to show you don't always need to build in the popular "decrepit" style to have an interesting build.

Rockin' castle Capt'n! What's with the neon trans-green moat? Acid?

Acid? No. It is not meant to be that bad.

It is just a very dry creek, which is made of white/yellow transparent plates placed on light green plates. Gives a nice nasty creek

Thanks. I tend to agree. :sweet:

A really nice Castle on great landscaping. Nice interior though the dungeon needs a little love.

Yepp, you caught me on this one. I had ideas for the castle, for the dunes and the creek but no inspiration yet of what to do with the dungeon underneath the castle.

My son has suggested to create a wine cellar for the guards but I am not yet sure.

Wonderful castle, Captain Braunsfeld!

The building techniques used may be simpler than some styles, but they give a nice visual appeal! The stained-glass windows give a beautiful lighting effect for the interior photos. I agree with MassEditor that the SNOT technique for sand dunes looks more realistic, but I also think that the rest of the dunes work well at this larger scale. Keep on bringing MOCs to GoH!
