gazumpty Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 (edited) edit note [24.02.15]: As promised, I have finally been able to take some time since the end of the contest and photograph this MOC. Things have settled down for me, without going into too many unhappy details, so that all you folks can have a proper look at what I was able to create. Plus, as evident from my current postings, I am also able to be a much more active member on EB and contribute to this fantastic 'Town' forum! That should keep 'lightningtiger' pleased! Apologies again for the poor quality of the original photographs that were entered for this project. They definitely did not do justice to the amount of time and effort that went into this build. And finally congratulations to everyone who entered, it was the one plus over the New Year that I was at least able to enjoy looking at and reading all the amazing entries. Especially the top 3!! Brilliant work!! ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Please enjoy my entry for this years EB Winter Contest....St. Nicks School for Elves. Located on the edge of Santa town, young elves are taught the skills needed to graduate and be part of Santa's workshop and festive preparations. The staff is made up of elf elders and other holiday characters. At St Nicks you can attend classes in: Christmas Tree Growing Reindeer Care and Handling Toy Building & Workshop Christmas Spirit Mixing Baking & Sweets Also in the school there is the grand hall where the elves gather to receive their honorary 'elf hat' and the top elf gets awarded with the 'Santa Merit Medal'. The school runs a bus to pick up those elves in the harder to reach parts of Lapland, whilst picking up any supplies that the school might need. PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: The whole entry, including the School, the Stables, the Greenhouse & the School Bus PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: The School with Santa Claus greeting the Elf Headmaster. PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: The back of School left open for access to each interior space. PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: The class where elves learn to mix 'Xmas Spirit' PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: A hidden attic space with all sorts of treasure and loot! Mysterious! PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: The elves learn how to do Xmas baking and sweet creation PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: The elves learn how to build the many types of toys for Xmas. PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: The School hall decorated with a large Xmas tree and pipe organ for those Xmas carol sing-alongs. The Elf teacher also reads out the name of the winner of the 'Santa merit Medal' PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: The outer Greenhouse, where elves are taught by Mr Yeti on how to grow and nurture Xmas trees. PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: The school bus with snow plough, and laden with supplies for the school. PICTURE EDIT [24.02.15]: The Reindeer Stables, where elves learn how to look after Santa's most valuable travel resource. Wee note....please have a wander through http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=551270 to see the rest of the school. Also I will upload the interior shots of the main school to this link once I sort out my internet problems after the New Year festivities. Hopefully there's enough at the moment for everyone to enjoy. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!! edit note [23.02.15]: Please have a gander at the other picture on my Flickr account (and add me if you want too!) p.s. thank you to everyone on EB and the town forum, your activity and posts were a little bit of escapism for me over these last few tough months. Zerobricks Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Brilliant idea and execution. And I love the way you used the transparent garage doors for the big window in the glasshouse! Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Excellent - every good elf needs to have attended St. Nicks! Quote
Gabor Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Nice buildings! The bus is great, but my favourite thing is the wooden wall of the smaller building! Good luck! Quote
gazumpty Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Thanks everyone for your kind words. Now the madness of Xmas and New Year is out the way & I can get onto my Internet through my laptop... I'll update my brickshelf with more detail pictures of the whole scheme. Quote
greg3 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Brilliant!! The school looks great but I really like the glasshouse design (clever use of garage doors!!) I did do a double take when I read about the "wee stream"!! Anyway good luck in the completion... This one is definitely one of my favourites!! Quote
CityBuilder Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Wow, the school building looks beautiful and the school bus is very cool! Quote
gazumpty Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Hey...just edited this as promised...so please leave some feedback if you can be bothered looking at more Winter stuff (especially as it's almost March) My bad Quote
jimmynick Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Is the 'xmas spirit' egg nog by any chance? Lovely MOC, and thanks for updating the post - I missed it the first time around. Quote
gazumpty Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Is the 'xmas spirit' egg nog by any chance? Lovely MOC, and thanks for updating the post - I missed it the first time around. Yeah....its just that little something that makes you feel all warm inside around the holidays. Here in Scotland I like to call it a 16 year old Malt No worries, thanks for the kind words...I was frustrated with the pictures I posted originally...so hopefully the new ones do the build justice. LittleJohn Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Fantastic build! I really like the greenhouse and snowplow, but the school is fabulous! Great job with the stables too, I really like the snow drift Quote
Dorayaki Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I feel like part of the main building has inconsistent styles, but the idea is still very lovely. Expect to see more little holiday elves things! Quote
gazumpty Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 I feel like part of the main building has inconsistent styles, but the idea is still very lovely. Expect to see more little holiday elves things! To be honest I agree with you on the main building. I really focused on the smaller 16x16 builds and feel they are the most successful of the entire project. Slight lack of planning on how I wanted the schoolhouse to turn out! I feel I should have carried out a more elf/ santa colour scheme and 'fantasy' style but found the conventional design easier to spatially plan. Thanks for your feedback Quote
