vitreolum Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) Would like to claim UoP for: - mosaics, stained glass, or complex SNOTted floor designs - governing body (king, council, etc) Edited January 23, 2015 by vitreolum Quote
robuko Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 That bucket handle idea is fabulous, the use of chairs is great too. Very nice build and presentation, the statue and the ceiling frieze are real highlights. UoP +1 for mosaics Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I agree, bucket handle idea - genius......I hope you don't mind if I take some inspiration 'vitreolum'.....the scenery is fantastic, that statue and minifig set up/placement so life like......Brick On 'vitreolum' ! Quote
kabel Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I really like your mocs. There are always some nice and innovative techniques to be seen. However, I do wonder what all of this has got to do with GoH, if you never give your mocs any story and never participate in the global story. I don't even know if you are a member of any guild. Yet at the same time you like to get UoP credits. GoH actually is as much about building cool stuff as it is a community project. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Nice! Some very clever parts usage here! Quote
Kai NRG Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Great interior scene, I especially like the rug and the arm rests of the chair is a great little detail! Also really like the inset cross and the shield on the stained glass! +1 for the UoP credits. Quote
Mike S Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Some really really nice stuff here! The furniture is great and the border of studs and 1x1 round tiles is awesome! Quote
vitreolum Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 @kabel I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to outside the part that I don't write stories for most builds. A lame story (which is what I would write) explaining what should be apparent from the build itself and the title does not add anything to the build for me. I did participate in every challenge since I've joined (Dwarves, Mount Up, Cmf), unless there's something I'm missing here. And regarding the UoP, I wasn't aware there was something I had to do for this, isn't it something for all members? The only thing I could do is to give credits, something I can't since I'm not a Kali member. I don't mean to be rude but I fail to see what other members do and I don't aside from the storytelling part. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 @kabel, Vitreolum Without meaning offence with the following comments, just some (hopefully) impartial observations. I do agree with Vitreolum. He has participated- I've enjoyed his builds, and the descriptions. Some of the ways he's depicted his stories have been unusual and eye-catching. A lot of the members here don't contribute to the "global" storyline, but work on their own small areas. I'm enjoying following Aymer and Cora's adventures, from the Spanking Troll Tavern, to camp making and beyond! That being said, this MOC might benefit from a small description- I take it that's Cora dressed as a jester? With Aymer on the balcony? You don't necessarily need to assume your stories are "lame"- and even if they're not the greatest or longest, that doesn't matter. Story writing can easily improve with practice, and length does not equal quality. A well written pair of sentences can convey an awful lot. I hope that all makes sense, and is taken as positive, and not negative! Quote
Slegengr Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Nice build, Vitreolum! I like the SNOT rug leading up to the throne as well as the stained-glass window behind! The bookshelf and desk are great as well, especially the use of the handles for drawers. I also think a storyline would be nice, even if it is simple. It is nice to know more about what is going on and how it ties into GoH. Quote
vitreolum Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 Of course, criticism is always welcome, even if towards my involvement in the community. But it helps if I'm getting some reasons / some suggestions what to do to improve it rather than just a complaint. This particular build is quite random, since I've made it for the tourney, but I figured it would work as a freebuild here. Quote
Mike S Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 unless there's something I'm missing here. I agree with what Vladivus just said but I also see where kabel is coming from. I myself was wondering how this fit into GoH until Vladivus clarified that the two assasins were Aymer and Cora. But who is the king? There isn't any king in Historica that I know of, maybe a duke or baron or some other noble but the last king of Historica is missing. I actually thought your stories were great, simple and easy to read but writing nothing at all to try to explain how the MOC fits into the GoH universe is kind of lazy imo. You have to have some etchings of a story to pose the figures and it only takes a few minutes to write up a caption or two. Quote
kabel Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Maybe my criticism came across much ruder than I had inteded it to be. As I've said before, I really like your builds very much. So I'm sorry. What I basically wanted to know is in how far this fits into the story of our guilds. And by that I mean not that you have to write a super long story. Mine aren't usually that long either. So basically just where this take place, and which characters are involved and for which guild you are building. Quote
Graham Gidman Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 A fantastic build, with a lot of NPU. Well done! Quote
LordDan Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) Fantastic build, definately one of my favorites from you! The furniture is superb, and the thone room looks awesome! The stature and the mosaics are also great details! I take it that's Cora dressed as a jester? With Aymer on the balcony? I had absolutely no idea what was going on until you said this! I think that even a single sentence as a description would clarify what is going on. But who is the king? There isn't any king in Historica that I know of, maybe a duke or baron or some other noble but the last king of Historica is missing. I'd imagine there are many individuals in Historica who call themselves kings, ( like minor king, or rulers of small territories who use the title " king" instead of lord or noble, or some pompous kaliphalinites who call themselves kings, etc) Anywhere in historica where there is a "kingdom" could technically have a king, right? After all it's just a title, although I imagine most of these kings would have very little real power or authority, since as you said the is only one real, "official" king, who is missing. Also why are they murdering a king!!?! Edited January 24, 2015 by LordDan Quote
Spader Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Wow! Great build! You really pull off the 'castle' look excellently! Quote
Yzalirk Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Fantastic build as usual but I wish you would have had a story and some dialogue with it, like some of your "older" builds. Quote
Gunman Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Really great bookshelf and statue, very eye catching! The snot techniques also are great mate! Awesome moc. Quote
Jorrith Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Excellent build! I do miss the story, because i also enjoy reading those, but if you prefer not to post any story, i'm cool with that too! The build has lots to see, so it's no loss. Quote
Adolfo Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 The statue is awesome! All the scene is well done. Congrats! Quote
de Gothia Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Such a epic throne room! That huge statue is great! Quote
SkaForHire Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Kabel brings up a general problem that GoH has been facing for the last few months, and I think it was unfortunate that the bow broke on this build, a great build, but one of the few builds of yours that fell under the category Kabel is talking about. Lately there has been some great builds from a lot of people, but at the same time they are less and less GOH. For example, many don't even state where the MOC is located, why something might be happening, or who / what is in the MOC. Many of these MOCs are MOCs from other sites / tournaments. Whereas that is OK, we would like to know how they fit into the general world that the community has built. The project was formed for a few major reasons -- to improve building skills in the history forum and to create a community project around a common setting. Whereas lately building skills are at an all time high, that community story is flagging. In comparison to LOR, our story is much more user generated than leadership generated, and that had worked for the past couple years, we just seem a little story-dry right now. Now that is not to say the great builders have to become great storytellers also, but it does help to put some of these builds into more context with the overall community. Again, I think Vitreolum took a shot here for everyone's past history, this really is a fantastic build. As for this MOC, and a few suggestions that could help bridge that gap between stellar build and stellar build with importance to our story: I would have been fine with a slight adjustment to the title saying something like, Historica history 101: Killing King Kalidis of Kaliphlin. And then claim it was a MOC from the history of a guild / or historica in general, which is a good way to do battles and major political mocs, and have them tie into the general story without significantly altering the present beyond the capabilities of one builder. (IE: killing the present king of historica would have dire consequences! Killing a king 500 years ago would not) Although if these are your present characters doing it, then I would just add a little note something like " they traveled to depose soandso, who had named himself king in the absence of the King of all historica) It doesn't have to be huge, just something to give it a place in the community story. a few lines can give it relevance. Quote
Hammerhand Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Beautiful build vitreolum! I love the "furniture", and the incorporation of a statue into the throne room. I do agree with what's been said about adding a bit of a description, but I don't really have any advice on that, as a lot of my descriptions tend to be rather dull... But great job on this, and keep it up! Quote
