BusterHaus Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 (edited) In anticipation of the Technic crawler crane which will be released in 2015 by Lego, here is an alternate model for the 42038 set. It's the first MOC I've built using tracks, and I quite enjoyed the process. It has 3 functions (rotating superstructure, tilting boom and hook/string) and a bogey suspension. There are a few more pictures in this blog entry. * * * Update: Instructions are now available. Edited April 5, 2015 by BusterHaus Quote
aminnich Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I really like this c-model. I looks great and is "clean". I like the amount of detail for a smaller model. Great Job BusterHaus Quote
DamonMM2000 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Nice job BusterHaus! I bet it was fun building a replica Quote
miguev Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Lovely C model, I'll definitely build it if you ever make (any kind of) instructions for it :) Quote
Zerobricks Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Wow, amazing alternate. How many bricks were left over? Quote
Freekysch Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Great C model, even the color scheme is perfect ! Quote
BusterHaus Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. Lovely C model, I'll definitely build it if you ever make (any kind of) instructions for it :) This may be a possibility. I haven't worked with flexible elements (tracks, string, flex axles) in MLCad yet, so it would be a good opportunity to learn something new. Wow, amazing alternate. How many bricks were left over? I built a claw attachment and a load to test the crane. There is still a bunch of elements left over, but adding them would have altered the look of the crane, and not in a positive direction. The improvement that is most needed is stiffening up the tracks so the crane feels more rigid. There are enough parts left over to do that, but most of my attempts to do this ruined the look of the crane, so I picked visuals over performance. That being said, it's a very fun model to play with. Both my boys spent more time with it than any other model I've built before. Here are the attachments: And the left over parts: Quote
BusterHaus Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 It's a load for the crane to lift. I wanted something else than the gray barrel that comes with the set. Quote
aminnich Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 ok, I could not think of anything else it could have been, anyway, looks GREAT Quote
-WINNER- Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Wow, cool C-model! I think, it's better then the B-model But... lot of left parts... Now I want to buy 42038 Quote
Patman Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 That's really nice! I second the request for instructions.....please!! Quote
Siegfried Meyer Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Great work Busterhaus now I must buy the 42038 for the moc Keep up the good work Quote
miguev Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Again, thank you for the instructions. I needed to build something like this today, and I can go to bed feeling better Quote
BusterHaus Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 You're very welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed them so much. Any errors in them? Quote
miguev Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I didn't spot any errors. Come to that, I don't remember even making any mistake of my own, I find your instructions very clear and easy to follow, yet not boring. Quote
jeanska79 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I made out your great model with parts from 42030 and 42008, infact the colour aren't the best choice. I like it so much that I've added 2 XL motor for the track and IR receiver, plus a manual stabilizator for the front part, not really necessary because the weight of the track component is huge; The only "bad" think is that the weight of the laden with the engine tend to incline the central part of the crane... Really great C model, thank you VERY very much for the instruction! Quote
