Posted March 23, 20159 yr Having none of the new 3 wide driving rings is a problem if you want to build Sariel's new RC gearbox, so I decided to modify the gearbox to work with the 2 wide driving rings for all to use. I have made the LDD file which you can download below. Full credit goes to Sariel for the original design and his post can be found here: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=107240 The green and red axles on the sides are supposed to be connected to the green and red right pieces on the model, it is like this due to LDD not allowing me to place the sides on the model. Any faults in the model, put them in comments and I'll fix them when I can Enjoy the gearbox! Sariel's 4 Speed RC Gearbox Using 2-Wide Driving Rings.lxf Edited March 23, 20159 yr by Kiwi_Builder
March 23, 20159 yr I have replaced the pair of 8t and 24t gears with 16t and 24t gears, to increase efficiency Well, if you actually built this gearbox in real life and not in the LXF file, you would realize that they are arranged this way for a reason - to keep speeds in order. With your "improvement", all the speeds are mixed up, 2nd is faster than 3rd and probably even faster than 4th. So please - you should not be using the file by TheLegoExpert.

I didn't realize that lol (; So there are no ways to make this gearbox more efficient?
March 23, 20159 yr So there are no ways to make this gearbox more efficient? Sure, build it out of steel and grease it.
March 23, 20159 yr Sure, build it out of steel and grease it. I know you're trying to be sarcastic. But a bit of WD40 would go a long way. (Or maybe something which is non-abrasive to ABS.)

WD-40 would go a long way toward creating a mass of ABS based goo. A silicon based spray can reduce friction a lot, but it also makes an awful mess. The only thing I have ever really lubricated is the inside of a turntable, and that is pretty effective.
