My Dear Quintus,

I trust you and your dear family are well despite the strained circumstances we find ourselves in. All is well here although I do miss the vitality of urban life. I am afraid that I have the unpleasant duty of letting you know of a rather unpleasant incident in our newest navigation channel. As you know, it is a hard life for the plucky traders and sheep farmers who eke out a living clinging to those barren basalt rocks, so far from the comforts and fabrics of modern civilisation. Well, I'm very sorry to say that it just became rather harder, as pirates have taken advantage of the temporary confusion to plunder those homesteads, no doubt under false flags and letters of marque. I deeply regret to report that the attack on the outlyiing islands of the Serpent's crawl did have the effrontery to fly a sigil of his Highness, but I can assure you that this was not our doing. To save any further doubt and unpleasantness, we have taken the whole area under our temporary protection until we have got to the bottom of who is responsible this disgraceful behaviour, and you have our assurances we will treat the villainous culprit with the utmost of appropriate punishment.
