Jacob Nion Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) Silence surrounded by shadows. That was what came to Osric's mind when he arrived at the Necropolis. It was located near the walls of Queenscross, in the rock of Jackal's teeth. Carved in it's stone, the Necropolis was tightly packed with tombs and mausoleums and monuments. Thousands of rich Kaliphlinite lords and merchants and noble men over thousands of years had built tremendous memorials of their mortal existence. Marble, obsidian and granite had been brought from every corner of the guild, and many a rich man had wasted his long live earned gold on his grave, only for the hope of being remembered. Today, not many visitors of Queenscross came through the Necropolis and most of the great and noble names on the tombstones were forgotten. It was a perfect place to draw closer to the city's walls without being detected. But it was also a perfect hideout for an ambush... Edited April 23, 2015 by Jacob Nion Quote
Garmadon Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Excellent rock-work and monuments, JN, fantastic minifig posing as well (especially with the leaping rat!) Quote
LittleJohn Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Fantastic work, Jacob! The rockwork and ruins are superb, as well as the irregular base Quote
Captain Dee Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Who says greys are boring? The monuments and irregular rocky base are excellent. The white and pearl gold make a nice contrast and the fig posing - both the warriors and the statues - is very good. The idea as a whole is very imaginative. Good job! Quote
Kai NRG Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Excellent work with all the monuments, some fantastic posing here! The rockwork is also very nice, and good use of that dome! Quote
robuko Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Excellent colour(?) blocking and figure posing here Jacob. I especially like the statuary, the caryatids in particular are wonderful. Superb entry. Quote
frumpy Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Oh my what awesome minifig posing. Fantastic work! Quote
Bregir Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Excellent colour(?) blocking and figure posing here Jacob. I especially like the statuary, the caryatids in particular are wonderful. Superb entry. I have to agree wholeheartedly with Robuko. And to think I ever would benefit from knowing what a caryatid is! I think the doused down colour choices are brilliant - They make the white (marble) grave stand out a lot, which is a really nice effect (And that reclining statue is wonderful!). The main mausoleum has some brilliant details (is that half a deathstar? ) and looks very classical. Great work - One can only hope that one day, Osric Irontooth will realise the error of his ways and lead his people towards freedom, rather than the opression offered by the false god-king! Quote
Tomsche Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Loce the contrast with the white marble and the rocks, excellent build! Quote
Kai NRG Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Excellent colour(?) blocking and figure posing here Jacob. I especially like the statuary, the caryatids in particular are wonderful. Superb entry. Colour if you're Canadian (or English?), but color if you're American. Quote
Blufiji Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Oh man this is awesome! The posing is superb. Quote
Balbo Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Amazing . The rockwork looks great and the statue looks very nice, too (the posing really looks fantastic). Furthermore I love how you made the base Quote
Jakorin Swiftsword Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Whoa, nice work with all the poseable figs! And the building and rockwork is really top notch! Quote
Graham Gidman Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Terrific work Jacob! Minifigure posing is top-notch, and particularly like those bushes. Quote
Gideon Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) Excellent rockwork and great atmosphere overall The statues are lovely, I especially like the one on the coffin on the right! Since I cannot really find something to give constructive criticism on the build, I will try two small remarks on the photography instead: I think it's good to cover up small leaks like the ones behind the figs on the building if the building lacks a proper backside. I also think it is usually better to take the camera a bit further back to avoid having too much wide angle and having the perspective make objects at the edges lean too much, like the pillar to the left (I usually take my overview pics nowadays with the camera at least 1.5-2 m from the build). Umbra-Manis Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 :wub_drool: Now running away with first place in WZ7: Jacob Nion! Quote
mrcp6d Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Well, this is certainly way over on the "holy crap" side of epic! All the statues are simply amazing, however, given the movement implied by the other figs, and the shaping of the statues, the uprightness and straight-leggedness of the two Kali soldiers on the left looks odd. MassEditor Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Stunning build, this has a wonderfully dark vibe to it! Great color choice here, the contrast is very striking. So much to appreciate here, some of the highlights include the SNOTed landscape, the architecture and especially the fig/statue posing. You really have a knack to posing, and it's something I always look for in your builds. Top notch entry here! Quote
Yzalirk Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Beautiful work here! I like the rocky base and the style of the main structure. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 This is a fantastic build Jacob! Love the base and the tombs, and then the fig posing is fantastic! Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Terrific build. I like the different statues a lot. And the death star has been put to good use. Quote
