steentje Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 (edited) Raid on the Shi-Quak settlement Because of the heavy damage to their spaceship (SS Retrebution), Capt' Ahab is forced to make a landing on one of the 7 moons of Nuytura. While the mechbots start repairing the ship, Ahab sends out Garekk and Talking' to-ME to scout the surface of the moon. They found out that there is a small Shi-Quak settlement. Ahab decides to make a raid on the settlement to stock their supplies (and to keep his crew from revolting). because of the lenght of my DIO (triplet) I hab to make a compilation of 3 images, that's the reason why the perspective is not correct :( some details of the skiff ...details of the jetbikes ....and some details of the wall Hope you like my entry. steentje Edited April 29, 2015 by steentje Quote
Dardanel Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 These look awesome! I really like how you combined the scene with you chars : ) Quote
Balthazar Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Awesome scene! I like your composition idea. Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 (edited) Great stuff steentje! This is a really creative way to represent various little builds and combine them in a bigger whole. Each build is nicely designed and built and fits the theme well. The fort part looks cool and although it's all in gray it doesn't look too much like stone. Even if it's concrete it looks futuristic and not too castle-ish. The SNOT tecnique for the ground is well used and the sinked box looks cool. I really love the color coherence of the whole build as well as your pirate team. The olive green roof is also a nice detail! My only complaint would be the doors, where I'd sugest using plates between the arches rather than puting them so far behind leaving the nasty gaps of both arches exposed. But apart of that a very strong entry. Good luck! Edited April 28, 2015 by MstrOfPppts Quote
Wat Tambor Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Wow, that's a great entry for category C! I really like the speeders, they looks so cool and the SNOT technique on the ground looks also great, the sunken box is a very nice detail. Quote
Razi Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Too many good entries! Ahhh I'm gonna lose. Haha jk :) Really cool skiff and jet bikes! I like the really nice blue pin with the bran and gray stick pieces technique! Quote
steentje Posted April 29, 2015 Author Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) THX! guys, it's really nice to have such possitive feedback. The compositon idea (triplet) started as a practical sollution...I wanted to make a raid scene that, and as I started working on the jetbikes it turned out that it would be a way to big DIO to build in the short time I had. So I decided to turn them into 3 "sperate" ones. as I finished the first one (the jetbike diorama), I was thrilled by the result. My only complaint would be the doors, where I'd sugest using plates between the arches rather than puting them so far behind leaving the nasty gaps of both arches exposed. I agree with you, MstrOfppts (puppetmaster?)...I was also not really satisfied with the door, maybe I'll find time to correct this before tomorrow midnight . THX for your hint/comment. sheo Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Very interesting idea to divide the scene into several pieces! I think it may be very useful to tell some story without the need to rebuild the models. For example, the settlers may repulse the attack forcing the pirates to flee which may be represented by turning corresponding pieces around! Anyway, nice setting! Quote
___ Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 It looks really great! I like the fortress wall (or what it is), also those smaller bikes and the terrain looks super On the other hand the only thing I am missing here are studs (as I am the CS guy, it's quit reasonable I guess ), but I understand very well that it was your intention as this studless trend is so popular these days + it probably look more as a sculpt than a LEGO model, which I assume was also your goal here...and you succeeded Quote
Demetreous Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 Very awesome! I especially love how made the box look buried in the desert sand! Quote
Praiter Yed Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Really love these vignettes - nice clean landscaping, great vehicles and nicely framed. I think it would look ace as one long dio though... any plans to link them up when you have time? Quote
Hammerstein NWC Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I love the clean presentation and nicely executed lines. It's an original idea - did you do this because of the limitations of your light box (that always affects me)? Quote
steentje Posted May 12, 2015 Author Posted May 12, 2015 (edited) Thanks guys! I love the clean presentation and nicely executed lines. It's an original idea - did you do this because of the limitations of your light box (that always affects me)? I don't have a lightbox (not yet ;) )...no, because of the time limit...it would be to big if I would have made a realistic MOC (scale like) Really love these vignettes - nice clean landscaping, great vehicles and nicely framed. I think it would look ace as one long dio though... any plans to link them up when you have time? THX!...no I like the "forced" solution of the triplet the only thing I am missing here are studs (as I am the CS guy, it's quit reasonable I guess ), but I understand very well that it was your intention as this studless trend is so popular these days + it probably look more as a sculpt than a LEGO model, which I assume was also your goal here...and you succeeded no I'm not allergic to studs...I just wanted to have this clean look I think it may be very useful to tell some story without the need to rebuild the models. For example, the settlers may repulse the attack forcing the pirates to flee which may be represented by turning corresponding pieces around! Anyway, nice setting! I think you're right, I always like it if people have a good story around the MOC (it makes it more alive)...but I really need some practice here :( ...I'll promise to make mor effort the next time. ___ Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 no I'm not allergic to studs...I just wanted to have this clean look Indeed as I thought, very well executed then + happy to hear that about the studs Quote
Missing Brick Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Really nice. I like the way it's broken up into 3 vignettes. Would look excellent on the display shelf. Quote
