My First MOC

so I am very new here. A few months ago I bought a huge lot of lego technic with some incomplete bionicle and hero factory figures in it. my first thougt was; break them down and build a huge bot... So when surfing the internet, I landed here on the eurobricks forum and gathered information, tips and tricks...

put my idea for a gigantic bot away for a while and start small and get experienced on the way.

thus here is my first attempt; it's a editted version of fangz

This is actually pretty good. I would recommend trying to keep things like the type of toe claws consistent, but you probably don't have that many parts. If you can make the neck slightly longer, I would do so, as it would inhance the hunchbacked look, which is really excellently done.

Hi and welcome to Eurobricks!

Considering this is your first MOC in this system, this is quite a good effort. I like the general appearance of your version of Fangz (which is probably one of my favourite non-humanoid sets). It definitely looks like something you wouldn't want to come across! I really like how you made the hunched appearance.

Of course, my advice would be to get some more parts so you can make the model more cohesive, as the paws in particular are a bit mismatched. Bricklink is a great place to get specific parts. I'd suggest swapping the gold paw piece for a silver one (though the silver one is quite rare and expensive, so alternatively swap both for gunmetal grey) and also use the paw pieces for the back perhaps? Also, I'm not a big fan of the orange-yellow spikes, it might look better with red ones instead The front lower legs could do with some cladding too. But I understand that all of that may have arisen just from lack of parts.

An often cheaper alternative to Bricklink is LEGO's official "Bricks and Pieces" service, which allows you to order any parts from new sets and many from older ones. It's categorized in the same place as LEGO's missing pieces service. I for one like the yellow claws on the feet due to contrast, but those on the jaw seem slightly strange. Perhaps those could be replaced with red ones if you get them? The lower front legs would look best with long cladding pieces (7m) in my opinion, to keep the sleek look.

That's a good option too, though not always cheaper. I didn't mention it since I was talking about parts that aren't available via that service anymore. The ones on the jaw do look more jarring than the ones acting as claws, I forgot to elaborate on that. Oh, and do you mean 6M shells?

First thank you all for the nice comments and tips. With all comments in mind, I've made some slight changes to it:

For the moment I want to keep the pawns(except for gold), but I reversed the armor pieces and did put some shells on the lower legs.

For the claws, it was already my idea to use red op orange ones. But I only have yellow and bleu for the moment...

Making the neck longer did not work as I wanted cause the lack of the right pieces.

For now i'm going to shop, gathering some usable pieces and experiment a bit more.

Hey, this is pretty great for your first! Well shaped, with great posture. While the colour scheme is a little haphazard, it's not really that sore on the eyes at all. Overall, very nice!

Will you be getting any of the new Bionicle sets, or buying some old Hero Factory sets? I'd recommend it - the more CCBS* parts you have, the more awesome stuff you can design!

*CCBS stands for Creature and Character Building System, which is the ball and socket building system that premièred with 2011's wave of Hero Factory sets, and has since become the standard for Lego action figures.

The best set in terms of useful/rare parts for the price is probably Evo Walker. Other sets from 2014 also have good ratios.

Also an excellent choice. It has a useful technic turntable, perfect for adding functions to your MOCs, plus a lot of connector parts.
