legolijntje Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I just came across this little fun project by user "DasMatze". (So, let me be clear, this is NOT my work) The link takes you to the LDraw forums, here's the EuroBricks topic, but I thought that people here might be interested as well. It's a game where you have to build a model as if you are a minifig. The models are based on LDraw files. You can read more about it, following the link above. Quote
___ Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 (edited) haha, looks quite fun to play this little game, good find, legolijntje Edited May 19, 2015 by bublible Quote
Nachapon Bricks Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 (edited) Just test this game. It's great fun. Just need more bricks and more loading model performance. Nachapon Bricks Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) It took more than 5 minutes to load 10188 (LDD exported). Only 2250 bricks left due to TheBricksperience have 133 bricks type only. The game run quite smooth with max graphic setting. 10188 by Nachapon S., on Flickr 10188 bxp by Nachapon S., on Flickr Jump into 4000 bricks is possible ! 10189 bxp 2 by Nachapon S., on Flickr 10189 bxp by Nachapon S., on Flickr Edited May 27, 2015 by bbqqq Quote
DasMatze Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Thanks a lot for stress-testing it! 4000 or 5000 part models may be possible but there are two things to keep in mind: a 500 part set takes already 30-60 minutes to complete and when you add steps to the model, all the bricks will have physics which could result in horrible framerates. That's why I wouldn't go over 500 - 600 part models. Quote

It took about 10 minutes loading time on my notebook PC (i7 3630QM, GTX660M, RAM8Gb, SSD). Walking/jumping virtually inside the model is great fun already! Not just a building game, Bricksperience can be use as Lego model viewer tool / screenshot tool / Maze game, jumping game creator etc.. DasMatze Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 (edited) Good job recreating the train with the few available parts! Could you center it on the world origin, make it playable by adding steps and upload it to the mods section on indiedb.com, please? http://www.indiedb.com/games/the-bricksperience/mods It would help making the game more popular. Currently I'm not working on the game but if more people take note, I'll probably go back importing parts all day. Edited May 27, 2015 by DasMatze Quote

Nachapon Bricks Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 (edited) Just know that Unreal Engine 4 is free for everyone form March 2015, So trying it today to import some obj bricks model. It would be nice if DasMatze or someone can make a tool to import Lego model from LXF or LDR with auto material / bevel shader. Then we get a zero wait real time rendering tool! Even make some fan-made Lego game!! IF YOU LOVE SOMETHING, SET IT FREE... Shroud Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 (edited) So I could import my Capital Space ship!?! That's mad I've gotta try that. I had some success importing LDD into the Unity engine but this... Imagine using the Rift with this and seeing your hands like yellow claws haha. A I've just started, is there functionality? Like can you open doors etc? Edited June 1, 2015 by Shroud Quote
Nachapon Bricks Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 (edited) @Shroud: I play a little source engine before, but Unreal engine is completely new to me (just try it today). It seems easier to learn and very powerful. As you can watch or download many UE4 tech demos on internet. It can do almost everything we can imagine for sure ;-) Edited June 1, 2015 by bbqqq Quote

Then we get a zero wait real time rendering tool! Even make some fan-made Lego game!! As I told you before, you need to recreate each brick as they need to be low poly and they need a custom made icon in a certain style. Importing 3d models and 2d textures is not as easy as importing text files at runtime. Therefore it won't happen. I'm sorry. Also I just discovered this: http://store.steampowered.com/app/332310 - Could this make my game obsolete? Edited June 1, 2015 by DasMatze Quote
Nachapon Bricks Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 @DasMatze: Thanks for share the "LEGO Worlds" game link. It looks fun, like minecraft in Lego version. I will buy and try it. I think Bricksperience still useful if LW don't allow to import model from LXF or LDR, or have very limit of brick type. It would be great if user and add custom bricks/decals into Bricksperience. Shroud Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 So I tried the Lego Worlds and its a lot of fun, there's heaps of potential there. I would say they would add more sets...imagine running along the shore being chased by a pirate ship, or being the pirate muhahaha. There's already talk of people wanting to mod it so maybe some could "help" introduce more pieces like the start of creator mode in LDD for those that remember, it builds much the same. And FPS Oculus support would complete the drool. Quote
DasMatze Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 (edited) I picked it up again and released a small update: http://www.indiedb.com/games/the-bricksperience/downloads/the-bricksperience-v13 Changelog: - new pieces - new set - display mode added for sets you built - preview images for sets added instead of slow realtime preview Since the savegame format has been changed, it could be that you have to start over. I will continue to work on this. The next big feature will be interaction with the bricks (like doors and windows) in display mode. This should take a while to create. DasMatze Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) A new version is available: http://www.indiedb.c...cksperience-v14 The biggest change is that I use converted LDraw parts now. They sometimes do lack smoothing in some areas but they sped up my workflow enormously. That means I can release new sets and bricks more often. Currently there are 311 bricks. Full changelog here: http://www.indiedb.c...s/v14-changelog This will probably be my last post in this thread as nobody seems interested in it anymore. I will continue working on it though.
