Kai NRG Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Location: F02 Tags: Exploration, Land Vehicle, Airplane So here we are! Let me see, what planet was this again? *Beepbeep* *pushes buttons* Oh, right. F02. Okay, here we go! Let's see what this "Domination for Dummies" book says about the planet... Hmm... E10, E11, E12... wait, there is no E12. Oh, I see... F01, F03... what?!? Aha! Here it is! F02. "While dominated by volcanic activity, the deserts here hide vast water supplies." Huh. I wonder what that could mea... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh! *gulp* Oh no! My book! I'm lost without that! Well, at least there's one comfort. Things can't get worse. Boo! Oh look! It's M.A.N.T.I.S. Mark! Awesome! Man, I've been wanting to meet you for so long! This is so cool! But um... I could use a little... help? How about... this kind of help? Aaaaahhhhh! *gasp*cough* *splutters* What are you doing? Is that a... a... Death Ray? (I mean, Death Ray™?) Wait a second... you're from M.A.N.T.I.S... aww, come on, there's got to be a way to talk this through! Sorry Guy. It's not personal. Not again! Aaaahhhhh owwww! Meanwhile, on the surface... Huh. That's weird. There seems to be some sort of high pitched squeals being emitted from that hole! Wonder what's going on? Oh hey! Mark! Hey, LJ. What's up? I've been looking for you everywhere, that's what. Lady K just issued a recall from this planet. What?!? Right now? Bless her! Don't worry. We'll meet again! Okay. Just do me a favor and... leave your Death Ray™ behind. Please. A couple of overview shots! And another view of LJ's M.A.N.T.I.S. flyer. A big thanks to Little John and Mark of Falworth for letting me use their sig-figs! The E02 planet description gave me the idea - a lot of inspiration for the whole scene was from shmails' recent spelunking build! Can't say I can recommend the whole upside-down building thing. However, I do think it contributed to much stronger rockwork! The entire cliff-ish side was built starting at the top. Then of course, it took forever to stick it to the base! On the whole however, I had a good deal of fun with it. Especially the story. And the little vehicle was a much more enjoyable build that last week's! In fact, I was quite happy with how it turned out! C&C welcome & appreciated! Thanks for looking and (if you read it) for reading the story! Quote
Mike S Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 I really like how you built the cave! Awesome build! Quote
Commander Turtle Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 That is some nice rockwork. I do wonder though, why is it called the Death Ray™ if it clearly doesn't create death! Quote
Legocity2713 Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) All of the vehicles in this here writing are amazon, each better the last. Truly impressive. Great job my friend. Edited July 19, 2015 by Legocity2713 Quote
mediumsnowman Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) Great build! I love the shot of LJ poking through the hole! Edited July 19, 2015 by mediumsnowman Quote
Blackhawk STX Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Now this is cool! The cave is really impressive, and the rock work is well done. caused a bit of a Minecraft flashback there... Quote
Kodan Black Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 I like all the angles and perspectives in your pics. Great rock work and cave too. Was a surprise when there was a cave under the surface! Quote
LittleJohn Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Fantastic work, Kai! The rockwork and sand dunes are superb Great story too! Quote
shmails Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 The underside of the cave is well done, much better than mine was. I also love the colors on the surface, and that buggy is very cool, I may have to make my own! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Definitely one of your best landscapes thus far, you pulled off the double level really well Excellent rockwork and storytelling too Quote
mccoyed Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Love the composition here. Those shots of the poor Octan guy peeking/falling into the cave are just great. Quote
Big Sal Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Great and funny build and story! I like the red background and great rockwork! Quote
Kai NRG Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Thanks everyone! Really appreciate all the comments! That is some nice rockwork. I do wonder though, why is it called the Death Ray™ if it clearly doesn't create death! Thanks CT! Hmm... well, Mark does have a tranquilizer function on his Death Ray™, ...but actually I was kind of thinking that he just didn't ever actually get hit. Of course he did say ow, but you know, sometimes people say ow without actually being hurt. Like, someone will step on your foot and say "Ow!" (and you're like, "Excuse me? You stepped on my foot!"). Or maybe the blaster just didn't reach full power. IDK! I like all the angles and perspectives in your pics. Great rock work and cave too. Was a surprise when there was a cave under the surface! Thanks Kodan! I'm glad you were surprised, that was exactly what I was hoping would happen! Love the composition here. Those shots of the poor Octan guy peeking/falling into the cave are just great. Thank you! There's only one problem with so many shots... it really swamps my photostream! Quote
Garmadon Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Ha, ha, excellent build and story Kai, the underground cave is superb, the buggy is very sweet, and I really like the asymmetrical design of LJ's spaceship! I hear you about cluttering your photostream, though! Quote
David FNJ Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I really like the underground part in this one! That hole looks great, and the story was funny! For your photostream, make only your main photo public, and then make the rest private. When you share your private photos here, we can still see them - we just can't see them on Flickr. Hope that helps! Quote
goatman461 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I think this is your best entry so far. the vehicle is really simple/compact/clean/great. the underground scene is really well done throughout and extensively detailed. The shot of your character swimming out of the water is really cool, perfect posing. I'm not a big fan of the ship, it looks like you forced yourself to use some parts that make the structure look a bit goofy. Quote
mrcp6d Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Very nice double-layer build Kai The mixed up studs directions really work well! Quote
Kai NRG Posted July 21, 2015 Author Posted July 21, 2015 Thanks guys! I really like the underground part in this one! That hole looks great, and the story was funny! For your photostream, make only your main photo public, and then make the rest private. When you share your private photos here, we can still see them - we just can't see them on Flickr. Hope that helps! Thanks for the Flickr tip! Actually though, with 1000+ photos already on my stream, that's not exactly the kind of cluttering I care about (it's a little late! ), but posting 18 or so pictures means that they don't show up in other people's activity, and so they get swamped and hardly anyone sees them, except on EB, of course. Thanks though! I think this is your best entry so far. the vehicle is really simple/compact/clean/great. the underground scene is really well done throughout and extensively detailed. The shot of your character swimming out of the water is really cool, perfect posing. I'm not a big fan of the ship, it looks like you forced yourself to use some parts that make the structure look a bit goofy. Thanks goatman! I'm not sure I was exactly trying to use certain pieces with the ship, except the two-sided car curve pieces (whatever those are called), because I love those pieces! haha, but the rest was just sort of whatever came to hand. However, I do think it would have been a good deal better with two of the same car piece arms, but I only had one of those pieces left and besides, the attachment points on the other side were studs rather than antistuds, which might not have been too easy to work around! Anyways, I definitely need more practice with these ship things. Hopefully the next challenge will help! Quote
