Murdoch17 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Pirate vessel off the port bow! Ready the cannons and prepare for battle! Three Masts 21B Here is the pirate vessel, the Terror. She now has Technic sails, as the original cloth ones were VERY expensive. The ship is 100% build-able, and perosnally I think it looks better with Technic sails than the cloth ones. I had the Black Pearl by M***B**** back way in 2007. I got it when there were no LEGO pirates offerings, (at least cheap ones!) I eventually destroyed it & threw it out (I think) Anyway, I had a massive pirates-meets-trains layout with a VERY long dock, and am wanting to get it started again, but with all LEGO parts. As of 8/31/15: this model has been shortened to a better length of 1 less bottom section and just 8 cannons instead of the original 10. This ship features: -Removable deck pieces -8 firing cannons -Revamped Angel statue -Raised captains quarters Also, the name TERROR is supposed to be spelled out the stern, just below the lanterns using printed 1x1 tiles. This flag goes above the rear sail: http://alpha.brickli...25pb008#T=C&C=1 Here is the LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1441049410m.lxf EDIT: and here is the Terror's adversary, the HMS Archangel: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=114065 Quote
Jreacher Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 pretty good ship. I can't agree about the technic sails however. I think cloth would look the best. Its just the bulk and shape of the technic sails that makes the ship look off to me. But the rest of the ship looks good. It would be cool if you could make the ship maybe in real life the technic sails would look better. Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Looks better than the Brick Bounty. Yet, I have to disagree to the form of the sails. The larger ones should be underneath the small ones - and they are too overwhelmingly black. Otherwise: fine! Quote
Staslegomaster Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Why only black colour? - To frighten islanders? it's too gloomy. And where are crow's nests and the crew? Quote

The way the sails are oriented is because that's how they appear to be in set 4184: http://brickset.com/...The-Black-Pearl Why only black colour? - To frighten islanders? it's too gloomy. And where are crow's nests and the crew? The original Black Pearl ship model was colored this way, so I took it a step farther with a elongated hull, more cannons, and a real deck. Also, I haven't come up with a crew yet. Thanks to everyone for stopping by with their suggestions! Edited September 2, 2015 by Murdoch17 Quote
dr_spock Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I think those technic panels may put a strain on the masts in real bricks. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted September 9, 2015 Author Posted September 9, 2015 I think those technic panels may put a strain on the masts in real bricks. SNIP It was either use the panels, make it look good, and possibly build it, OR use cloth sails from set 4184 at $70 (US) for the whole sail set, then buying two whole sails-sets of them, at $140 US totals and make the ship potentially look better but never buy it. The first option seemed a better deal.... though I never built the ship. Quote
Captain Dee Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I'm no fan of the Black Pearl due primarily to the imposing and unrealistic color scheme (which would make Henry Ford proud - any color you want, as long as it's black) but I must say you've done pretty good with the overall design. I'll join the chorus of individuals who think the technic panel sails are a bit ungainly but I did read your reasons, and I won't argue the point beyond suggesting plain ol' black paper - not Lego, not purist, but everyone should understand. It's interesting to see everyone's remakes of this iconic vessel, even if I don't really appreciate POTC. Keep on building. Quote
