Brainbox Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 So I was working on all the stuff for my Bat-MOC Goody-bag (see Theater), and I was looking at the figs I had on display on my desk. They were all stood on 4x4 plates (bar my sigfig, who was stood unaided), and I thought 'it needs something more.' So I came up with mini-vig display bases. The Clone one was actually done ages ago, but it never occured to me (God knows why not) to do the same for others. So, without further ado, I present: ... the first five mini-vigs! They are as follows: Clone Trooper (Ep3) Gamorrean Guard Batman (that's a lampost in the background) Yes, this is based on the classic Bat-image. Scarecrow (with fear gas spray-can) Close-up 1 Close-up 2 Brainbox (that's me, in case you didn't know ;-) ) Close-up 1 Close-up 2 On display 1, 2, 3 Gallery when public I think I like the Bats and Scarecrow ones best, Scarecrow for it's detail, and Bats, conversely, for it's simplicity. There're plenty of other figs on my desk, so hopefully I'll be able to brainstorm a few more simple scenes to cater for them. So, as usual, C, C+Qs welcome. Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Wow! What a great idea! I think I'll have to try this! Dr. S. Quote

Lt. Col. Thok Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Fabulous designs! The vig of yourself is very flattering. Quote
Shadows Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 An excellent idea and well executed! Lately I've found myself gravitating more and more toward minifigs and accessories, plus the occasional odd piece (things in unusual colours), and I can see using this technique to display those. I still like sets, but they're almost background material now, with the real focus being the characters. It's funny really because under my monitor is my original sigfig on a 4x6 plate, an R2D2 with 3rd leg on a 4x4, a pirate skeleton pinned to a ships wheel by a sword on a 6x6, and a few misc figures just standing on their own. Clearly I needed a good standard for them, and 4x4 looks like it. I had considered using those minifig display stands LEGO came out with for a while, but they're all too specific (sports, sw, city, rock raiders, etc) and limit you to a figure and no scenery. Your method takes care of that completely. Great job! *y* Quote
Siegfried Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Good idea! I might do the same with some of my "special" mini-figs. Quote
TheCloneWalker Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 An innovative and creative MOC-thing! I gotta try this. Mini-vigs On! TCW Quote
Batbrick Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) Very nice Brainbox! *sweet* Being a fellow Batfan I would say that Scarecrow's and Batman's are the best. Reasons: I love Scarecrow's fear gas sprayer and the Positioning of Batman. Gamorrean guard for me gets runnerup. I also really like yours Doctor Sinister, the german soldier looks great and I love the rubble he is cornered up against! *sweet* I like this term too, "Mini-Vig", like they needed to be any smaller anyway! :-D TTFN! (Joker says tis shortly after bashing Scarecrow with a chair for those who were wondering) >:-) Edited September 28, 2007 by Batbrick Quote
Brainbox Posted September 29, 2007 Author Posted September 29, 2007 Thanks guys. The vig of yourself is very flattering. Thank you. It's actually pretty close to my real desk for the scale it's in. I had considered using those minifig display stands LEGO came out with for a while, but they're all too specific (sports, sw, city, rock raiders, etc) and limit you to a figure and no scenery. Your method takes care of that completely. Yeah, I considered using them to display figs ages ago, way before this was even a conceptual idea, but declined on account of the writing. I might do the same with some of my "special" mini-figs. Yeah, I only used my favourite figs for displays. At least, my favourite figs that weren't already on display elsewhere. Very nice Brainbox! *sweet* Being a fellow Batfan I would say that Scarecrow's and Batman's are the best. Reasons: I love Scarecrow's fear gas sprayer and the Positioning of Batman. Gamorrean guard for me gets runnerup. His sprayer was based on an aerosol spray can he was brandishing in a picture in a book I've got. The Bats one was obviously based on that classic image. I like this term too, "Mini-Vig", like they needed to be any smaller anyway! :-D I don't know where that came from actually, but thatnks. Quote
hollisbrick Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I *wub* Them. They're simple....yet great! Quote
Brainbox Posted October 1, 2007 Author Posted October 1, 2007 I *wub* Them. They're simple....yet great! Thank you. I tried to make them as simple as possible, as they'd probably look a bit odd on display if they were too crowded. Apart from Scarecrow possibly, which is a bit more 'detailed', but still fairly simple. Quote
Vader Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 My favorite has to be the scarecrow one, it's so simple yet he looks so evil 8- Quote
lego.ryan Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 This is a really great idea, and seeing as how I love to make minifigs, you might be seeing some of these from me soon! ;-) Quote
Brainbox Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 Thanks *vader* and lego.ryan! you might be seeing some of these from me soon! ;-) I've really started something haven't I? Anyway, I look forward to it, and hopefully I'll have a few more up soon, there're plenty more figs I'd like to display properly. But I've got part 2 of my 'Bat-MOC Goody-bag' and a MODed Crab Crusher to photograph, some artwork (it's a surprise) for the former, and some sorting of my Techic box to do as well. Quote
JoeMI6 Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Great idea! Maybe this is what lego could do if they ever wanted to release single figs. Guess it's too bad Hasbro won't let em do it with their licenses |-/ Anyways, I might give some stuff like this a shot! Quote
Brainbox Posted October 5, 2007 Author Posted October 5, 2007 Great idea! Maybe this is what lego could do if they ever wanted to release single figs. Like a sort of 'mini-BP' but without the actual battle. I suppose there's a lot of scope though, seeing as how there're so many different figures, themes, etc, plus there're MOC figs as well. Really, you can do whatever you want with them, as long as they fit the fig in some way, so the only limiting factor is your own creativity. The number of pieces you own doesn't really make any difference either, as these're supposed to be simple, with a minimum of pieces. Thanks Joe :-) Quote
