Below is a transcript of Ageven's speech on the occasion:

“Fellow Kaliphlinians! Our country has been decimated. War has torn its lands and harried its people. The Desert King has hit hard with his merciless fist. The only hope of survival seems to lie in quiet submission. Many act as if resistance would be suicidal.

“Are you a brave people? Or will you sit in your cushioned ivory palaces in Petraea and watch your liberties be swept away and only a few meager handouts be given you in return? Will you shut yourselves up in your narrow castles and ignore the pleas of your few countrymen who continue to hold out for freedom? Will you bury your heads in the remotest sands and congratulate yourself that whoever else falls, you are safe? You are not safe! I tell you, you are not safe! The tyrant pretends amnesty, he offers bribes, he whispers sweet promises. He only wishes to rout out a few pestilent trouble makers – then a glorious reign will be ushered in under which prosperity will flood – what? Whom? Not the average person, not the hard working merchants, not the careful barons – the beggarly flatterers, the court gossips, those who know how to further their own interests by smoothly buttering up the disentombed mummy that pretends to lead us!

“And for the rest of us? What is left? A land ruined, a country shattered, a world that is falling apart. The worst brutally push their way to the top, and we – are we willing to stand by and see a corrupt monarchy lord it over us and our children?

“Does it matter if we are willing? Is not hope gone? Are not things so far advanced that there is no possibility of stemming the tide?

“Fellow Kaliphlinians, so far I have come with a message of despair. Now I point to our only terrestrial hope! Stand up, brave men of the south! Stand up, you barons that for so long have held onto your right to govern yourselves in lawful council! Stand up, you merchants to whom the right to traffic freely is literally food and drink! Stand up, Kaliphlinians all!

“Let not party names distract us. The land of the south is one. If we do not hang together, be assured we shall all hang separately. Ulandian or High Councillors, we fall or stand – as Kaliphlinians!”

A roar of applause followed the outburst, and then Ageven cried out,

“Sultan’s Gate must be sacked!”

Note that the highly political tone is reflective of Ageven’s in character sentiments. I personally, of course, know that the nominal rule of the DK in Kaliphlin is irrelevant… at least, more or less, except in so far as it attracts/repulses members.

Had fun getting a few good quotes in there.

“Who? [What?] Whom?” – I loosely paralleled Hayek.

“If we do not hang together, we shall all hang separately.” – John Hancock

“Norman [ulandian] or Saxon [High Councillors], we fall or stand – as Englishmen [Kaliphlinians]!” – John of Gaunt said that in a movie. No idea if he said it IRL.

“Carthage [sultan’s Gate] must be sacked!” – Cicero (who used to say it after every speech, until the Romans finally got the idea and sacked Carthage)

Finally got around to building this! I believe it's the first time I used that floor technique - quite tile intensive but it looks pretty good!

Thanks for checking the MOC out!

Wow, that is quite a speech, excellent writing there! Funny how the call for action could apply to both the inhabitants and the real-life members of Khaliphlin!

The floor technique comes out nicely, but I can't tell: are those tiles(? ,look like plates to me) loosely or tightly connected? I like the little podium and the scene as a whole.

Great build and a good speech.

So, will be there some resistance in Kaliplin against the DK ?

Is that floor build with rods? Amazing! Nice speech, cool you put some quotes into IT!

I think it is build with tiles, isn't it ?

It appears to me as a tiled floor technique, not rods.

Thanks guys for all the comments!

Thanks! Yes, those are tiles. The lines are caused by the slight indent at the bottom of each tile (made to facilitate removal) and they're connected more or less as tightly as possible - though there was a little offset at the end due to brick math.

No, like Faladrin said, they're tiles. Thanks!

Great build and a good speech.

As long as I'm around there will be!

Nice! I really like that floor. I think it would look really cool if you were going for an old, weathered look to have a few different Browns in there (dark brown, old brown, dark orange, dark red) : )

Nice speech. I think the Desert King will still win, but whatever...........

Of course... in the short run.:grin: Thanks!

Thanks Robin! I thought about going for some dark brown in there, but in the end I decided to go for a cleaner look. Since this is the first graduatee, presumably the room hasn't been used much. :sweet:

Great floor design, and the stage is really nice too

Thanks SK!

Nice floor design! Also great to see a bunch of familiar faces!

Thank you! It's always fun to incorporate other sigfigs!

Great to know as I planned to open trade roads with Ulandus as soon my port is rebuilt and ready to open (in a very soon build I hope...). Ulandus and its partisans are a good commercial partner IMHO.

I would like to know something. Is your city of Qarkyr is occupied ? And if it is how can you retake it from the DK grip ?

Nice speech. I think the Desert King will still win, but whatever...........

I saw the results of the civil war and I don't think the Desert King is so powerful... But we will see.

Well, keep in mind that my allegiance with Ulandus is really nothing serious. I guess I'm sort of their main representative but with no offence meant to the good ol' First Centurion I'd be ready to get rid of him at the drop of a hat - oh, wait, the DK already did that for me  .

Ageven would probably try to get the island recognized as part of Kali but other than that, there's no reason for it to keep it's own political structure as far as I'm concerned.

Ageven is aware that there was some fighting in Qarkyr but unfortunately the messenger that was dispatched to tell him of the outcome was caught en route so he is not up-to-date on the current status. Code for: I have no idea what's going on in Qarkyr, I've totally forgotten. Nor do I know what will happen in the future with regard to it remaining or becoming part of the DK holdings.

Cool little build, Kai - I like the floor, and how you turned the doctorate of Historica from a meta-event to an IC event!

Ageven must be a very important an well-liked person, with all those VIP's showing up at his graduation!

The speech is brave, and I hope Ageven will not suffer any repercussions from the sandy despot. However, only if you Kaliphlinites dare speak up against the socalled Desert King hope of change will remain.

Thanks Bregir! I think Ageven will be able to hold his own against the DK. One man army, that's what he is!:tongue: JK.

Congratulations!! :classic:

I really should make a push towards those few remaining UoP credits some day...

Thanks! You should!

Congratulations, Kai!

The podium is superb, I especially like how you angled the sides  Great to see a bunch of sig-figs there too :classic:

Thank you!

i love that floor! The figs are great too!

Thanks Windusky!

This is a neat little scene, and I like the contrast of colors (except the red flag which is almost lost in the background, but I do like that background color). The floor technique is nice even if somewhat parts intensive and the chairs/stools are cool. Unfortunately since I haven't participated in GoH I can't identify more than two or three sigfigs - would you be so kind as to name them all? Thanks and good work.

Starting with the back row of the top picture and working our way from left to right: Masa of Kaliphlin (Mike S) or Warlord Masa, Rex (one of my minor characters), empty chair, no one, Gideon. Front row: Aymeri (Little John), empty chair, no one, SarahJoy (whose character name I do not recall at the moment), no one.

Gex Marmota (Nice Marmot) is up on the podium with Ageven; he is dean of the University I believe.
