This is my Third Freebuild this month, so if you like it, don't forget to approve it, thank you !

According to the King, MAESTRO will be given a Charter !

So, Felipe de la Manzana prepared his ship in order to prepare the Push to Exploration the Crown requires. But He didn't know where to begin...

In order to do so, he re-armed the family's sloop, The "Appleseed" and went through the sea, trying a way indicated by the strange map Juan Ponce de Hespérida showed him before !

The Appleseed is a Well Rounded Sloop capable of any duty.

She is able to defend herself with 4 Lowdeck cannons of 20, 1 cannon of 20 on top of the Aftcastle, and 2 little cannons of 10 in the Forewardcastle.

She is also capable of some cargo, with a Lowdeck Cargo zone.

Of course the main products here are the famous weapons of Stedor, and some Apples and the Cider of Felipe !

Suddenly, The sentinel in the Crownest yelled :

- There is some floating woods there, Captain !

24170249892_0f72321c76.jpg

Felipe put a canoe on sea and went out to see this strange drifting wood with one crewmember.

24252284426_3e42654b43_b.jpg

He jumped onto the drifting wood and opened the chest.

23982829390_9caa880b43_z.jpg

It seemed to be some tribal stuff with an awful little statue of probably a "terrible god" and a note with it...

Looking further the note, Felipe read that there is the proof here that there are inhabitants and other cultures in the outer islands more through the East !

- Great news ! I will keep this stuff for my own collection and bring the news to the King and to my fellows partners of MAESTRO ! Thought Felipe.

Said that, Felipe de la Manzana turned back to East for great adventures and for the King, the Gold, and for Apples ! ...

Thank you for reading.

This is my first ship ever...

I had to rebuild most of the Foreward and some part of the Aft in order to make a correct sailing and to put correctly the masts ! I really wanted it to look like a nice little sloop.

I made some custom sails, hope you like it. I'm not a good painter, so the apple of the front sail is a bit strange, sorry for that.

She is entirely playable :

- The Foreward castle is removeable in order to access to a moving cabestan that is holding the anchor.

- The Deck is openable in order to move the Guns and put a crewman to operate them.

- The Captain Cabin has an access through the window that is openable.

- All the cabin is removeable in order to access to the Cargo zone.

Any advice or commentary is welcome. I tryed a new set up for photos, don't hesitate to comment on it. !

Don't forget to approve the MOC if you like it, thank you !

As this is my first ship in BoBS, I would like to claim the free licence for it as a Well Rouded Class 2 ship.

And I also would like to license it as a trading ship for MAESTRO.

If I read it well, to do so, I need also approvals from the players (and leaders) of Eslandola, or am I wrong ?

Thank you very much !

I Made totally the sails from null. I had to draw the canvas with some geometrical skills pirate_tong.gif ! and then transpose them into an old pillowcase in order to have an aspect that seems real.

Then I Dyed them and painted them and at last... cut large frames, glued the borders, and Finally cut precisely what form I wanted ! pir_wacko.gif

With the narrowing aft castle it looks like a fluyt.

You can safely increase the size if the sails on the next build ;)

I love it! There's so much going on in this ship - full interior, rowboat, working crane, details everywhere. And the gunports can be closed, even though the guns are fixed, that's quite clever!

Oh, and the apple theme really gives the boat character! I'm not sure about the rather crude anchor though.

This is a hilarious looking ship in a totally positive manner! It feels full of details and bulky enough so that each cannonball hurled at her, would bounce off! It reminds me of "Sea Cow". I especially liked it that you went into that much trouble to make your own cloth sails. They turned out good enough and their color is matching nicely to your ship. I must approve it because it made me smile :)

P.S: Awesome drifting wood too btw!

Cool sloop, Faladrin - I really like how it has so many playability features, and that is has such a unique style. That family surely must be proud of their apple business! pirate_laugh2.gif

I think the decorations are brilliant, especially how it is an unbroken feature from bow to stern, ending in the decorations aft! pirate_satisfied.gif

For a sloop, 20 and 10 pounder guns seem very large. Typically, a sloop would probably have anything from four pounders on a small sloop to 12 pounders on a large one. Should it be armed with carronades, perhaps 18 or 24 pounders, but then they would have limited range.

Further, I have never heard of 20 and 10 pounders. For some reason, the progression typically goes something like this: 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 32 pounders. I don't remember reading about anything in between these. (Probably because they were standard sizes on british vessels...)

That is not to say you can't use 10 or 20 pounders - they just seem a little large for a sloop. pirate_blush.gif

Someone said she looked like a fluyt with the tall, slim aft-castle, and the pronounced tumblehome effect made by the thick line around the gun ports, and I totally agree. Maybe your next ship should be a fluyt? pirate_satisfied.gif

As discussed elsewhere, this could probably be rated as class three (Maybe as a small fluyt? pirate_wink.gif ) but I of course understand why you would like to keep it within the free license. And it works within creative license. pirate_blush.gif

A few comments on the rigging too.

First of all - great job with the custom sails - I really like their texture, patterns and the apple! I am impressed by your creativity! pirate_oh.gif

As someone else said, it could probably carry a larger rig for more speed. Most of the sails are well designed, but I have to comment on your mainsail (the bottom one on the mainmast.) - It seems to me that you have tried to make a spanker sail, which seems right for that placement (although it would typically be on the aft most mast, where you also have one). However, a spanker sail is supposed to be able to be shifted from one side to the other by swinging the boom around - but yours is in front of those ladders! (Whatever they are called)

Right now it looks like a combination between a spanker and a square sail, which I am quite sure would never work in real life! pirate_tong.gif

Hope that makes sense - otherwise, you are welcome to ask, or to think that I am just talking nonsense.... pirate_laugh2.gif

Overall, great job!

Thank you very much for your comments !

@Blackdeathgr : That's nice you thought of it, I tryed to make The Appleseed as playable as a Lego set like the big boats TLC made these days and the Sea Cow is obviously one of them... Glad it made you smile !

@Bregir : Thank you very much for your encouragements ! You seems to be a quite good expert in sailing boat ! Of course, the pounders of the canons are totally wrong, you are right ! In fact I never knew the pounders used in the Navy before... Sorry for that. Besides; there is differences between british and french pounders for the little canons size... So I could change that, yes.

It would be better some 8 pounders canons (the French weight seems better for this kind of ship...) in the lower deck and 2 cannons of 4 in the Foreward castle.

For me, this boat is near Class 3, I agree. But I wanted to license it as my free license. And I find she is a bit short for a class 3; The Fluyt in Class 3 is a great idea ! For further ship I'll build, I will seriously consider it !

Concerning the rigging, I will consider making bigger sails on the next boat ! Thank you. And yes, my main sail is not at the right place ! Impressive knowledge you have !

I was inspired from "Le Renard", a French Corsair ship in order to create my rigging, but, for building purposes and due to some collection restrictions I had to put the sail in front of the "ladders" I am using as a Mast stay.

Thank you very much, I feel I am really improving with such commentaries !

Very nice and well rounded ship Faladrin, I really like the bulkiness and the Sea Cow type feel to this! pirate_wink.gif

As to your question about approvals you need - the approvals only regulate how many DBs you will receive for it as a free-build. And although the leadership is allowed to approve any build, the players can only approve builds by members not from their faction.

Oh, and you've got my approval for this pirate_classic.gifpirate_wink.gif

Nice ship, I like all those green ornaments you included :classic:

I'm going to leave the commenting on the shipbuilding to more capable builders (great to read your feedback Bregir!) but one thing which struck me as a bit odd was that the cannons were placed back-to-back with no room for recoil or the crew to handle them. For a ship of this size, smaller brick-built cannons are probably more the right size.

For another build, you could upload the full resolution images to flickr and use the BB code from flickr to show a resized version here. In that way, it's possible to view a much higher resolution image when clicking the images in the thread here at EB :classic:

This is one of the more unique Lego sailing ships I've ever seen. The colors go well with your apple story and the overall look also reminds me of the Sea Cow. The shape is pretty good although the upper bow and stern could be smoothed over to lessen some of the angles. Some of the hull detailing looks busy, but then some of the old gilded vessels were so it's not a big deal. You have included some really good details and this is a pretty good first attempt.

Regarding the cannons, I also think smaller custom guns would look better on a vessel this size, but it will do little to address the cramped look Gideon pointed out. Those shot weights provided by Bregir are definitely British and therefore I don't think everyone should be held strictly to them.

Good work. I approve.

Thank you but Captain Felipe is not dead. You will soon see how he managed to survive.

Otherwise I am understanding all the crew and cargo were lost ! May they rest in peace (by the way, if one of you have some Nails I have a good offer default_tong.gif )

Apples have been sent to feed the fishes... default_cry4.gif
