rodiziorobs Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 (edited) Big Sal calls Scorpio for a meeting... I've got a bad feeling about this... Starstriker! Come in! Am I in trouble? My last spying mission went pretty good! I mean, I forgot to add the vehicle tag, but... No Scorpio, you're not in trouble. Well, you might be. You'd have to talk to one of MANTIS' accountants to find out how badly you've screwed stuff up. No, I called you in to give you a science mission. Oh. Not in trouble, then. Well that's good. It gets better. We even have a budget approved for it! Great! So what is it? We need you to research and build an Amplified Radar station. Oh, ok. I think I can do that. Well good, because I don't! I mean, I don't want to keep you any longer. Run along! Whew. I'll keep my fingers crossed on that one. Good thing we have double the budget needed, so we can fix everything after Starstriker screws it all up. Later.... Status report from Starstriker, S. Do you wish to download? YES NO Work completed, Amplified Radar achieved! Well, looks like Starstriker finished something! And in record time! View attached images? YES NO Wonderful! It looks like a very large building! ...and if you look here, one of the features of this radar station is... What the #%!? It's tiny! What kind of lazy idiot is he? CLAPPIE, reply to Starstriker that we need an Amplified Radar that will actually amplify! Even later... Status report from Starstriker, S. Do you wish to download? YES NO YES NO YES NO YES! #%*$*! CLAPPIE! YES NO YES NO YES NO YES NO #$&%*! Computer, download the latest status report from Starstriker, and shut down CLAPPIE. No, actually, uninstall CLAPPIE. Rebooting CLAPPIE. #%*&$! Downloading images. Now that's more like it! He actually did something right! Amplified Radar achieved! Out of Character: The dish is so heavy that three large ball joints are needed to hold it. Some experimental blacklight shots: They are experimental because they aren't actually under a backlight. The light is the blue screen from my projector reflecting off the wall. I noticed one night when my kids hadn't cleaned up their own Lego that some of the neon trans-colored pieces glowed. I will probably try to capitalize on this for a future weekly build, but it was fun to mess around with the effect. Kind of long for a tech achievement, but fun nonetheless. A huge thanks to Big Sal for inspiring me on the story, including characters. C&C welcome! Edited January 14, 2016 by rodiziorobs Quote
woofmcmoose Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Good work Starstriker. The greebling on the dish is superb! I wasn't sure what a MANTIS advanced radar station should look like; but you completely nailed it! It's a shame this won't score as a weekly too... Quote
Big Sal Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Haha, great build and funny story The greebling is fantastic - it really makes the build look like highly advanced experimental technology Quote
SpacerSteve Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Ha I though the exact same thing as the build. Oh, he built a micro building....Love the giant dish and the story. I really like the eyeball in the center too. I have one of those just wasn't sure how I was going to use it. Now I know. Quote
David FNJ Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 That's one awesome radar! Great story too, and those experimental shots look cool! It always looks better in real life, but still cool in pictures nonetheless. Quote
