BeardedNerdSE Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Thanks to the Balrog being included in Lego Dimensions, I managed to reverse engineer the design in LDD and build it for real. It turns out that the design used doesn't really work in plastic, and some of the parts simply don't exist. This is my edited version to stay as true as possible to the original and still have it working. The Lego Balrog by siegfried_fm, on Flickr I've included the LDD files and wing templates in my original blog post: http://www.beardedne...e-rings-balrog/ Feel free to build your own and improve on the design! Lord_Tyrannus Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Fantastic work!!! It's so sad to see what it could have been if LEGO hadn't drop the ball... Quote
Balbo Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Excellent work! I really like the idea and how your Balrog turned out . PS: Thanks for uploading the LDD files - I'm definitely considering making a rebrick for my collection, too Quote
Bugbot2008 Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Great work! Sounds like a really big challenge but the results are great! Quote
Mencot Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Looks really awesome! How stable is it? Too bad there ain't all pieces in the right colors. Quote
wesker Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Awesome work! It still frustrates me to this day that we never got an official Balrog and the line's premature end. Quote
gamejutzu Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Hmm. Could have sworn the scale was larger. Huh. But it's still sad that LEGO never got out a set or two before the theme's end. Quote
mediumsnowman Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Awesome! I wish they made those large ball-and-socket pieces in black. Have you considered painting them? Quote
PaddyBricksplitter Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 They should have done an official version! This is cool to see in real Lego. What are those parts you used for the toes? Quote
LegoPercyJ Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Looks fantastic! Defiantly going to copy make my own (Thanks for providing the LDD file!) Quote
Forresto Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Amazing! That is truly the most terrifying TLG like monster ive seen so far. Quote
BeardedNerdSE Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) Looks really awesome! How stable is it? Too bad there ain't all pieces in the right colors. It's stable as long as you don't move it around. The legs are very weak so you can easily break them off. Awesome! I wish they made those large ball-and-socket pieces in black. Have you considered painting them? That's cheating. And it would wear off horribly from the friction. They should have done an official version! This is cool to see in real Lego. What are those parts you used for the toes? Dinosaur foot, part 40393. Oh, and I just realized that I forgot to put the horns back in the LDD version... doh!
