Puvel Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Today was one of the highlights of the year, the Wuggy ritual. Every year the elders from the island would gather and eat the Giuaphi fish from the sacred green lake Sdauvka. Unlike the other lakes on the island, lake Sdauvka wasn’t clear as crystal but green as the jungle. As a shrine to his power, Tsjupa the mighty Sun God even gave life under the water here! These fish were miracles, it would be sacrilege to use them as food. The Wuggy ritual allowed one of the Giuaphi to be caught and shared to celebrate solstice. By absorbing the power of the Sun God, the tribe gained strength for the coming months of storm. Only one warrior was allowed in the lake as to keep the lake as pure as possible. Weapons weren’t allowed either of course. This year Shabaa had the honor of entering the holy lake. After studying the fish for a while and concentrating on their movement, he grabbed one out of the water. As he rose up to thank Tsjupa, he saw a weirdly dressed person had appeared. Why would the man wrap himself up? Doesn’t the Shining Bringer of Life Tsjupa cover him in his blissful rays? Maybe the stranger was ill. After all he was wearing the colour of Reuyu. This was a sacred plant that grew by the lake, it had many uses and it was an important ingredient of many elixirs. Still, Tsjupa gives life to Reuyu so why pay the latter more respect? What a weirdo! by Puvel The Hurn, on Flickr Quote
Capn Frank Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I love the green lake effect. I like how the weirdo is actually the native after reading the text. Good job. Quote
TitusV Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Lovely little scene, really Nice Colors! Quote
Kai NRG Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Very nice green water! The flowers add a great dash of red as well! And good use of those pants on the native! Quote
Garmadon Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Great swamp and landscape, and very funny story Puvel, excellent job all around! The purple border actually looks rather good here as well! Quote
blackdeathgr Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Yay! Nice story! And these trans green look nice indeed! Quote
Captain Dee Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 That's an eye-catching arrangement. The lake water looks great and the plants fill out the scene well. Purple seems an odd choice for a border but in this case it provides a really nice colorful contrast. The native is unique and the redcoat in the wig happens to be one of my favorite combos. Interesting story to go with it. Good work. Quote
Tezclatipoca Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Nice build ! It gives a Good swampy feeling ! And good story too. Well done ! Quote
Gideon Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Nice swampscaping! Great work with the lighting as well, what was your setup? Quote
Bregir Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Lovely landscaping and a funny twist to the story to have a different perspective than that of the "invaders"! However much I love that swampy feel, I have to wonder how that native walks on the water, not in it! Is he the Jebus? I understand that it is probably meant to indicate the edges of the pond, but I would definitely have lowered him into it somehow. Perhaps taking away his legs, or removing the tiles under him, so his feet would appear submerged. The last option does limit posing, though. Quote
Puvel Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 Thanks guys! Had those purple tiles lying around for a while so decided to give them a try and it worked better than expected Nice swampscaping! Great work with the lighting as well, what was your setup? Thanks! There were 2 daylight lamps on the sides and also used the flash. I always thought using flash ruins pictures, but maybe that’s only at parties with a phone camera Saw you describing on of your setups and there was a big flash on top of your camera so decided to give that a go and it worked fine. Took lots of pictures with different apertures and shutter times to see the difference. Lots of them weren’t very good but this one came out as I hoped. Will just keep playing around until I know what I’m doing. Thanks for your advice anyway, it helped a lot! Lovely landscaping and a funny twist to the story to have a different perspective than that of the "invaders"! Perhaps taking away his legs, or removing the tiles under him, so his feet would appear submerged. The last option does limit posing, though. Since this is the shore of the lake removing the legs would make it seem too deep and I think the fish is bigger than the torso so not sure how the posing would have looked. I didn’t think of removing some tiles though, that would be better indeed! Thanks for the tip, I’ll remember that for future builds Quote
SilentWolf Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I love how you aimed for a non-clear lake! You definitely pulled off the swamp. The story made me chuckle though. :) Quote
