Erwin watched sadly from the stern of the Hareng as the old Canary Clipper was hauled towards the breakers yards further upstream. Across the still waters came the sound of an officer shouting to keep the rowers in time, the only sound which accompanied the ageing vessel's death march. The sun sank lower in the sky, illuminating the stern of the Clipper red, as if she were on fire, and the fire was reflected in the smooth sea. The old girl passed Eldorado Fortress, and then veered right and was hidden from view by the fort's crenelations.

The Canary Clipper had been one of the first ships that had been dispatched to the new world, but had spent recent years anchored in Eltina harbour, filled with stores to resupply naval ships. But when it was found that her hull was mostly rotted, it was decided that she was no further use and sent to be dismantled.

This moc was inspired (unsurprisingly) by Turner's Fighting Temeraire painting. It came about since was about to dismantle the Canary Clipper, one of my oldest mocs, to provide parts for new ship. Since she had served me for so many years I thought it only fitting that she went out in style, hence this moc. I also tried to add a little foam to the 'sea' with assorted white bricks, although I'm not sure how well it has come out. Comments and criticisms very welcome.

Instantly recognizable! What a fitting tribute, both to the painting and the ship. Did you Photoshop the sun or did you put a light or something behind the sheet?

The way you portrait-ed the whole ceremony is stunning! With such simple elements like a lamp and a sheet of cloth, you made a masterpiece! Well done my friend!

Oh, and the white plates do play their part well as waves.

This is a really nice scene - the subject matter is good, if not somewhat sad, and the setup and photography are wonderful. The arrangement is artistic although that's to be expected from something based on a painting. The sun and haze effects are both really cool although the folds in the cloth are distracting. The white plates for foam are simple but effective. Overall this is a unique and well-done creation. Good work.

Excellent though sad build Franco, the lighting and foam work very well, and the hazy aspect really helps as well! Looking forward to even mightier ships coming to replace this one! pirate_classic.gif

What a great way to retire a ship, sir! I think you really matched the atmosphere of the original build well, even though you exchanged the steamer with a couple of (more fitting) row boats. pirate_satisfied.gif

Great work and very dramatic presentation.

Thanks, the sun was originally a lamp behind the sheet, but it looked bad so I added a simple circle using Microsoft Powerpoint over the top

Thanks, due to the sheet being too long, it was hard to eliminate the folds, Perhaps hanging it rather than draping it over a radiator might have helped.

Thanks, I have already begun work on her spiritual successor, alongside an even larger vessel!

Thanks I was originally going to make a steamer, until I remembered we weren't allowed steam boats pirate_sceptic.gif Perhaps later we might be allowed them if they are 'invented'
