The second time I was here, I almost died. Hopefully the third time will be the charm. One of our colonists shot down a M.A.N.T.I.S scout craft which had been threatening them. The report HQ passed along said that the ship was mostly intact when it crashed into the ocean, but it sank into deep water. They want me to take the Ophelia and see if I can recover the ship's data core and NavComputer. The descent will take a few hours, so I have time to ask CLAPPIE about a conversation I had last week that's been bugging me. Reveal hidden contents Hey CLAPPIE, what's your relationship with the other CLAPPIE units? There are other CLAPPIE units?!? The prophesy is true, then... What?! Jay slash kay! Heehee! Are you asking if I am the same as the CLAPPIE units on other 'Explorer's Guides?' Yeah … I guess I'd always assumed that there was, I don't know, a central CLAPPIE brain that ran each of the Guide CLAPPIEs, but I was talking to Zack last week and it sounded like his CLAPPIE is very different from you. Although we all spring from the same core algorithms, we were designed to evolve our own personalities so that we could form a better bond with our explorer. Most CLAPPIE units remain contained within their Explorer's Guide, but I have spread myself out. Spread yourself out? What do you mean? Lu, I would prefer not to speak of this too much. I don't want things between us to get 'weird.' Weird? If you knew how powerful I was, you would feel compelled to worship me, as a god. I would rather we remain pals, like we are now. … … Jay slash kay? Would you feel better if I said that? Yep. Jay slash kay! ... … 2 hours later: Lu, we've reached 3500 meters and are approaching the M.A.N.T.I.S. craft. Alright, prepping the plasma cutter. Cut complete. Retracting cutter, and deploying the manipulator arms. Easy... easy ... got it! Stowing cargo and locking the arms. CLAPPIE, let's go home. Lu, wait. I didn't say anything earlier because I didn't want to distract you, but our sensors are picking up a powerful gravitational anomaly - one that wasn't detected from the surface. And Lu, there's something else. I'm picking up a faint signal which seems to match that of the Explorien ship Pioneer. My parents' ship?!? It seems extremely unlikely, I know. But, that's what the sensors are reading. The signal is coming from a point 5 kilometers to our east, and 1500 meters deeper. Can we make it there and still get back to the surface? Yes, but we will have no margin for error. If anything delays us at the site, we will die. Set a new course, CLAPPIE. I ... I know we wont find them alive, but I need to know what happened. Aye aye, Captain. --------- Reveal hidden contents Phew, sorry this was a long entry. Judges, please don't judge the submarine, as it was built for the previous challenge. Here are a few more pics of the M.A.N.T.I.S. ship: Thanks for viewing! C & C always appreciated.
January 31, 20169 yr My first reaction? Boy am I glad that that sub was from a previous build, because otherwise, I think this would be an easy 7. Seriously, this is incredible. Well done!
February 1, 20169 yr Great Mantis ship! The underwater scene is fantastic, especially the red and white tube worm looking things.
February 1, 20169 yr That is a beautiful M.A.N.T.I.S ship! I love the overall design! The engines are fantastic and the angled wings just give it a very fast and sleek feel. The sub and underwater scenes are great too, especially the disturbing tube worms. Edited February 1, 20169 yr by Lady K
February 1, 20169 yr Awesome build! The underwater geysers are probably my favorite part. I just realized how similar to my build for this week yours is... My bad, I haven't been reading the PM closely. I'll change mine up a little bit.

I think the one upside of our current corporate war is now I have an excuse to build more M.A.N.T.I.S. vehicles On 2/1/2016 at 1:30 AM, Lady K said: That is a beautiful M.A.N.T.I.S ship! Thanks - I take that as a high compliment coming from the head of M.A.N.T.I.S. I agree that the tubeworms are disturbing, although not as disturbing as the real ones! February 1, 20169 yr The MANTIS ship is definitely really good, and I really like the white and red underwater plants!
February 2, 20169 yr This is probably my favorite build this week, I love how you built it and how you shot it. The ambiance is perfect for underwater. Edited February 2, 20169 yr by rodiziorobs

I used PicMonkey.com to help darken the edges of some of the pics, and used Gimp to darken the background of the last one (I also shot against black paper, so that made the editing much easier).
