This is my third freebuild this month, so if you like the ship don't hesitate to approve, thank you !

"La Raenette"

Felipe de la Manzana, after his wreckage, had to join Terelli where he could bought a new ship.

Once in the Capital port, he managed to hire some new crewmen and found an ancient Oleon designed fast cutter for sell.

He bought her and after few repairs and new sails, the ship was ready !

She was renamed "La Raenette", in homage to her Oleander origins.

Felipe set rapidly sails to Berelli to join his friend Basil and to know if his diplomatic efforts had been succeed.

She is a fast cutter, rapid and easily manned, but she is not very well armed. Just an old 12pounder gun is light for self defense, but with an escort, it will not be a problem.

Here are the official soldiers on board making some training :

Here is a seagul view :

So Felipe is back for new adventures (the continuing of the one he already began...)

Hope you like it.

The ship is licensed as my new free license ship. It is a 1 gun cutter, it is a Class 2 F vessel.

I tryed a totally new approach for this build as I go for a brickbuilt hull and a more advanced rigging than for the appleseed. I know it's not perfect but I am quite happy how it turned out.

Btw, I've re-made the rigging of the poor appleseed when I built her sunk. You can see her new aspect on my flickr.

Comment and criticism are welcome.

Thank you !

An Oleon ship being sold in Terreli? It would be a safe bet that the former captain and crew had experienced a "special shot" from the Dark Narwhal. Was there a strange smell?

I approve!

Nice model, I love all those Eslandonian moustaches. I also like that this isn't really a military ship, just a civilian one wih a gun stuck on. Sails and rigging are really nice too and I like that you've made all the wooden parts yourself rather than using prefabricated ones out of Lego ship sets. Just one thing; the water looks a bit naff, it looks like the ship is mostly surrounded by ice! A big blue base plate with a little texture would help the overall look.

Nice effort! Shame about the Appleseed - hopefully your new vessel will be luckier! Fair winds and following seas Senor de la Manzana!

PS. Oh and 1 approval from Corrington

Very nice ship Faladrin, I'm really liking your rigging and sails, and it's good to see more brick-built hulls! pirate_satisfied.gif Let's hope you can get a good Eslandolan trade run with this! pirate_wink.gif I approve! thumbup.gif

The tall cabin might be a bit much on a vessel this size, but overall it's a nice design and looks more realistic than its predecessor. The custom rigging and shape of the custom hull look really good. I approve.

Nice cutter, Faladrin! :pir-blush:

I like her colourscheme, and I think you have achieved a pretty good hull shape, especially around the bows. The middle section of the hull (with the snot and tumblehome) does look a bit rough compared to the smoothness of the rest.

You have also managed to integrate the cabin better into the hull. However, I think it will be very hard to find a real life example of a cutter with a cabin over the deck. The smallest vessels with these were brigs, and for brigs, it would still be out of the ordinary. Normally, everything below ship rigged would be flush decked (Thus having the cabin below deck). Within creative license, though, this works pretty well. :pir-blush:

I wonder at the two "gunports" at her side. You write specifically that she only has the one gun, but still, there seems to be ports for another two (per side) :pir-wink:

You have captured a lot of nice details with your rigging, for instance the topsail above the gaff. A few comments are in order, though.

1) The bowsprit has a very steep angle. Without increasing the size of the jibs, I would suggest steeping it much closer to horisontal.

2) The gaff (the spar on the top of the mainsail) should probably be steeper (20-30 degrees), and the mast a bit higher.

Fixing those two issues would make her rigging seem more natural and balance, I think. :pir-blush:

Overall, nice build - I like how you are trying a different technique from the poor Appleseed, and I will be looking forward to seeing where your experience and the feedback you get will take you!

I approve.

I didn't notice a strange smell.

She is just a former Oleon ship, probably sold by her old Oleon owner...

I approve!

Moustaches are Eslandola specialty ! (if you are talking about the moustache of Felipe, he has the head of Lord Basil, the lord leader of the fright knights.

And you know what... I don't have any blue baseplate at my disposal atm !

That's a lovely ship! You're really rapidmy improving!i love the stern and the backside!

Thank you !

She has a less `anime style` (which I ain`t saying was a bad thing, as I love anime) then the Appleseed, and definitly looks the speedy business thumbup.gif

Thanks, yes I tryed a less bulky and less playable design. My daughter is sadened that she can't play with her like she is with the Appleseed. pir_laugh2.gif

Cool big ship!

The different colours in the mast looks very nice

I approve. Nice little brick built cutter.

Nice flag! I've been diddling around with a brickbuilt Sea Rats flag as well.... pirate_blush.gif

Yes I saw your Sea Rats flag ! My flag is like my signature... I think I have put it in all my Felipe's builds.

Nice ship! I approve! thumbup.gif

Thanks !

Nice cutter, Faladrin! :pir-blush:

Thank you very much for the comment !

I have to say that it's great to see such a good comment from you. pirate_blush.gif

The cabin is too much, yes, but let's call it a creative license then pir_laugh2.gif

The gunports are probably remnants of her Passed Oleon life (i.e. I had to hide the hinge I used to fix the plates along the hull body)

I will take care of your great advice on the rigging. The gaff is effectively too horizontal and the Bowsprit too high. It's a shame for the bowsprit as it was initially more horizontal, but while making the rigging, I Steep it for much confort pirate_blush.gifpirate_look.gif ; I will not do it again !

Again, thank you to all of you.
