Hi,

I would like to present to you my latest MOC, the BMW 328 Hommage:

24850833933_9f2c4db988_b.jpg

It features the standard functions for a Lego Technic supercar:

- 4 wheel independent suspension

- steering geometry including Ackerman, positive camber and minimal (0.5 stud) scrub radius

- V6 fake engine

- Opening hood

- A 4+N+R sequential gearbox

This was the thing that has given me the most headaches during the build. But after 3 months of trying way too many designs to mention I finally succeeded. It is operated by the gearstick in the center:

The stick can be moved sideways to switch between drive (D), neutral (N) and reverse (R ). If in drive the stick can be moved forward and backwards to switch gearing up or down. A mechanical lock prevents switching from 1 to 4 or vice versa.

This model started when I cleaned up my workplace to make space for the SS Amsterdam. The BMW was already lurking in my head, but I hadn't figured out how make the iconic headlights. But during the cleaning I saw this:2654.gif and suddenly I knew how to make the lights and forgot the ship completely:

I have tried to replicate the flowing asymmetric design of the interior within the limits of the Lego system:

A picture of the rear:

More photos can be found on my Flickr page: https://www.flickr.c...157665220014892

Payed instructions are on their way as well.

Some trivia to finish with:

Since 19L flexaxle is available in black again I felt no inhibition to use 6 of them in this model

The pin with pinhole is rapidly becoming my favorite part: I used 58 of them (it helps that the model is black)

I have tried to hard to use only parts that are readily available, the only really old parts are the wheels I think

I used 'only' 51 panels if I counted correctly

Leg godt,

Jeroen

This looks great! Something BMW could launch as a special edition concept car. But a BMW and a V6 engine? It should always and forever be a straight 6 ;-)

Nice work..

I also finally managed to get a stick shift that can be used to change gears up and down too.. I used 2 light blue gray shocks to return it to center(one in the front and one in the back).. I just need to focus and get it al connected together with evrything else.. I am trying to work on 6 things at once and it's getting overwhelming..

I also love that new black pin..

Very cool BMW and a unique car from you again  ! I´m sorry that I was ignorant till now about the real car, but thanks for making it more popular now. Especially headlights and rear view are spectacular and you have replicated them in a brillant way! I guess you wanted to keep your secret how the sequential gearbox is working  ?... The black pin with hole is a real game changer, I should have ordered more of them..

Do I see an illegal construction on the grill?

If real "legal" parts are used (rigid hose used here), it cannot be illegal except if they crack and break apart

I also was not aware of this car, but this looks like an excellent replica. My only (minor) nitpick would be the wheel arches that are a bit more open than the rest of the bodywork, but they follow the car lines very well and I doubt I could do anything remotely as good. The custom stickers are a nice touch, too.

Excellent looking car! Does it mean you have sequential gearbox in D position?

Yeah, I thought too I have enough of those black pin with hole. More on their way to me now.

I love the picture of rear! Very close to the real car. I wish I could replicate real cars like you did. In most cases it is much harder than building non-existent vehicles.

I have those wheels, too. Surprisingly well suit this concept car.

Thank you all for the positive comments. The model is on rebrickable now:

I know, I know , but a 12L engine just didn't fit under the hood...

Wow two awesome cars posted on the same day! Do I see an illegal construction on the grill?

Nope, I use two flexaxles to hold the grille pieces

The geabox is based on the one I used in my Alfa Romeo 4C Spider. But this one works 100% reliable . If you really want to know how it works you'll have to get the buildinginstructions

Wheelarches are notoriously difficult to model (I think they cheated with the 42056). This time I opted for an open design to minimize the clutter of stacked beams & pieces to fill the holes. The issue is that in this area it is all angled & curved lines, which is nearly impossibe to recreate while maintaining the flow.

I actually didn't use stickers. I folded some pieces of paper around the panels and secured them with some stickytape. Stickers would look better though I think, but I didn't want to go through the exercise of learning how to make custom stickers.

Yes, when in D position it is possible to move the stick back & forth to switch up or down.

I agree with this being harder to model than a self-invented design. This one took nearly twice as much time as my Mistress (a lot of that time was needed to design the gearbox. But even that was more complicated because of the very limited space behind the chairs).

Still, I think you are more than talented enough to pull it off as well.

I love this car so much. It was on my building list ower a year. Now you did it. And you make it perfect. Realy perfect. Now its history for me to build him. With thees front lights. Wow . i realy like it.

I think what I noticed was the difference in modelling style - the rest of the body is very closed, and the wheel arches were more open. Just a different look from the usual supercar body that has gaps and wheel arches made with flex axles. Still looks like an excellent replica.

Wow, incredible attention to detail!!! This is a fantastic, well thought out model tha seems perfect scale in all ways. Colour combo is awesome. Thanks for sharing!!
