Ahoy once more, mateys!

I'd like to present my entry for Challenge II B: Strike your Colors!

Warning: Contains not only much text, but later also violent scenes, blood, and general misery... better go grab some popcorn first, to enjoy this properly :pir-grin:

Here goes.

When Ivo Fortesque set foot on the island, nothing was the way he expected things to be. None of his men were here! Instead, all he and his crew found were burnt remains of a wooden structure. There was no sign of any living soul. Fortesque was terrified. What had happened while he was gone? As they continued searching for clues, a member of his crew found some pages of what seems to have been a diary, buried in the sand. As they deciphered the increasingly shaky hand writing, they froze in agony...

The Diary of Derelin Magini

First entry:

After leaving ten volunteers behind on the island our captain named 'Berelli', we sailed north-east, only to be caught in a storm, causing much damage to the Santa Clara. Fortunately, we found another island close by. After some repairs to the ship, the captain set sails back to Terreli with only a sparse crew, to report to the King about this new paradise-like island here. He promised to return with more supplies in a matter of two months. We – that is another twelve volunteers, including myself – have so far set up a small outpost here at the beach. It's been a tough job these past days, chopping down trees, building a cabin, setting up a defensive perimeter... I'm tired as hell, but we're all pretty positive about being here, and eager to start exploring this island. I wonder what riches await us!

Second entry:

Yesterday we took a first trip into the jungle, looking for fresh water, since our supply will only last another three days. We didn't find any river or creek so far. As nice as the isle looks from the beaches, all that vegetation in the interior gives me the creeps. I find it hard to orientate, and the heat is awful. But what I find most irritating, is that the natives we saw on our arrival here seem to have disappeared. Of course it was Velasques who had to tell a story about them being evil demons, going to kill us all. I'd much rather believe we're just not that interesting to them.

Third entry:

Still no fresh water. And we cannot penetrate further into the interior, the jungle is too bloody dense. Tensions are rising here, Velasques is turning into a source of trouble, scaring everybody. I don't want to believe what he's ranting, but I could swear during the night I heard the sound of drums coming from the jungle. This is turning into a nightmare.

Fourth entry:

Velasques has gone mad! He ran off into the jungle tonight, and returned covered in blood with the head of a native this morning! What has he done, he's doomed us all!!

Fifth entry:

Drums! All night long the sound of drums echoing from the jungle! No sleep, no water, no relief. We're all praying to the Gods...

Sixth entry:

They're coming! There's no way out...

The following is a depiction of what could have happened to the brave volunteers.

about: This scene was to some extend inspired by the fate of 'La Navidad', the first Spanish settlement in the New World, established by Christopher Columbus. Lego wise, well, all parts exist, all is buildable, just to display minifig action I turned gravity 'off'. Minifig placement in LDD is no fun at all, and the roof of that hut must have been the single most annoying thing I've ever build digitally. However, I kind of liked portraying all the bloody stuff :innocent:

The renders are made with Bluerender, which has the advantage of being much faster than Pov-ray, and also more realistic in lighting. Only thing is the water here doesn't really 'shine' in light transparent blue. Oh, and the 360° view consists of 100 renders, taking two full days to finish.

I hope you like it,

C&C as always very welcome!

I love it! The story is great, although that captain was very irresponsible - leaving then with only three days of freshwater before they'd found a place to replenish! The crows nest above the house reminds me of that old "Gunsmoke" episode - absolutely wonderful.

Another great fort, really nice job with the water and the palm trees are great but the minifigure action is excellent as well and I can sure see how that would be a pain in LDD! The transition between colors for the beach is really nice.

Woooow! Another excellent entry!

Excellent story and beauty of a build!

The islands look great, love the fact that one has beautiful trees and the other one has tree stumps but fortification.

Too bad Velasquez pissed off the natives but it gives us the opportunity to see a very nice fire so I can live with that :D

Great story, very creepy and I could almost hear the drums as I was reading. Awesome build too, I really really like the terrain of the island, such nice curves with the sand, and the water and palms just set the whole thing off nicely. The minifigure placement might be a pain, but its definitely worth it, the shot with the fort being overrun is perfect for the story, looks fantastic.

Thanks for all the praise, guys and gals pirate_blush.gif

Given the time it took to get these few minifigs in place I'm kind of terrified of any large-scale faction confrontation that only for this reason hopefully never happens default_innocent.gif

Fantastic work, KB! :pir-wub: The palisade, roof, fire, and crows-nest are superb, and the activity is really amazingly dynamic as well! - and I can't imagine how much trouble that would be in LDD! My favorite picture is the last one though - the beach, water, and those incredible palm trees are just stupendous! wub_drool.gif

wow this is really great! The story is so well written and the moc itself is pretty amazing too. I especially love your depiction of vegetation, looks like I'll have to borrow a few ideas here and there ...

I saw this but apparently never got around to commenting on it. This is a great build. The action and minifigure placement really makes it look like a real event. You definitely captured the essence of a battle. I am also like the roof and the landscape on this MOC. Great job!

How rude! So much violence, love it! The action is superb, all those fighting figures aqesome how you depicted the natives collecting heads. And the build itself is an impressive setting. The hut is fantastically built, especially the roof. And I love the mast as lookout post.

This was an excellent challenge entry. The layout is superb and looks very realistic. Besides just being big, it's very nicely detailed and the minifig action from both sides is very life-like. The fort and palisade are fitting for the situation; too bad the effort was wasted. Good work. :classic:
