kaiju Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 The last anyone else had heard of Jack Yharnam, her ship had got lost in the hurricane. Debris was found washed up on a nearby spit of land - quite by chance, actually, the crew were hunting for meat - but no trace of the captain herself. Everyone thought she had gone down with the ship... ...until she sailed into port one day in that monstrosity, the Mirthless Jest. Bigger than the Crow, more guns too. Gods only know where she found another crew for the thing. But there it was, bold as brass. I might just sneak in an MCRA results MOC before the end of the month but just in case I don't I figured I would post this up. I'll have to wait to license this, I don't have the DB for any kind of Class 3 ship and since this is bigger than the Crow I don't think I'll get away with calling this a Class 2. I'm still learning with BlueRender so I may add some shots of the details using the LDD's photo mode, but that will have to happen later. Quote
Garmadon Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Nice color-scheme and menacing-looking ship, Kaiju! The cabin and stern are excellent, and the story is quite intriguing as well. Looking forward to more! Quote
Sir Stig Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 You can always underlicence it, as long as you state your intentions. Which you have done. I really like the distinct look of your ship, and a very fitting and cool name. A sight that will haunt earnest merchants in weeks to come Quote
Capt Wolf Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Dag nab it, I like it! I can't look away. The color scheme is hypnotizing... Quote
Elostirion Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 The sails are just great, like them a lot! Quote
dr_spock Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Nice job and render. The Technic panels work well for sails. Quote

Looking forward to more! Thanks. Funnily enough, it wasn't originally supposed to be so intimidating, I only added the teeth to imitate certain elements on other ships and things kinda escalated from there. You can always underlicence it, as long as you state your intentions. Which you have done. I really like the distinct look of your ship, and a very fitting and cool name. A sight that will haunt earnest merchants in weeks to come I might look into the under-licensing option. And I hope this one lasts longer than the last one. Dag nab it, I like it! I can't look away. The color scheme is hypnotizing... Yeah, these white/accent two-colour ships are ending up a bit of my thing it seems. The two-tone contrast really does end up quite striking. The sails are just great, like them a lot! Nice job and render. The Technic panels work well for sails. I was impressed with the sails when I saw Metalbeard's Sea Cow, and they're easier than trying to build sails out of regular panels. I'm still not entirely sure about the rear sail, but not figured out how to improve it yet. Quote
Fuzzy MacFuzz Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 'that monstrosity, the Mirthless Jest' Are you kidding? She's beautiful, such a great colour scheme (but then I'm a a Newcastle United fan, so i'm a bit biased). More 1600 than 1750 like most ships on here, but that's OK, its all the Age of Exploration. Great work. What pieces did you use for the sails? That's a great idea, I wonder if it would work in a real build? Quote

Great work. What pieces did you use for the sails? That's a great idea, I wonder if it would work in a real build? When I posted the Bloody White Crow Captain Dee mentioned modding the design to make it into a carrack. I looked them up and thought "that's doable". The earlier style of ship also makes sense for something possibly dredged up from the depths (but more on that another time). The sails are Technic panels in various combinations of 3x5, 3x7, 3x11, 5x7 and 5x11. As I mentioned above, the idea came from the Metalbeard's Sea Cow set, so they work in actual bricks but may require some extra pins to hold them together a bit better. I think the biggest problem you may have is trying to find the parts in the wanted colours. Edited April 15, 2016 by kaiju Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Unique colour scheme - great job! Quote
TitusV Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 that colout scheme works surprisingly well! Great job Quote
Captain Dee Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 This is a nice design overall, and while the sharply contrasting colorscheme isn't really my thing, it's definitely eye-catching and would be unmistakable on the high seas. No Jolly Roger needed! The shape is definitely that of a carrack and the panel sails work well enough, especially for a digital design like this. I like it. Quote
