Kai NRG Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Guy paced the Mardier courtroom, trying to look important as he waited for the sitting to begin; but he only looked bored. Presently, however, he was surprised by the entrance of his Uncle. "Why, good day, Uncle! Whatever are you doing all the way out here in Mardier?" "I'm counsel for Eslandola. What are you doing?" "Oh, I'm Secretary of State, you know. Must take care of diplomacy, blah-blah-blah." Guy yawned. "Diplomacy! My foot! Sit back and see how it's handled." Guy laughed and took a seat as the courtroom began to fill. Not much can be said about the commencement of the trial, except that it was every bit as boring as it sounds. Then the counsel for l'Ollius stood up and made a long, flowery speech, full of poetical nonsense. Then Guy's Uncle arose. "Men of Mardier!" he bellowed. "Citizens! A horrible travesty of justice has been committed! By you! Eslandian shipping has been attacked! By you! Peace and prosperity has been endangered! By you! Stop! Return our ships! Punish this villainous privateer!" Guy's Uncle thumped his stick emphatically on the floor. "Justice demands it! Will you not stand by justice?" "Pineapples!" someone in the crowd shouted. And almost instantly everyone in the courtroom was on their feet, stomping and clapping and shouting, "Pineapples!" Guy's Uncle was unsure what to make of it. "Pineapples is Mardier-talk for, 'Hear, hear!'" Guy whispered. His Uncle shook his head. "These Mardierians are weird." "Order! Order in the court!" the judge exclaimed. Then he pulled out a giant mallet and knocked an unfortunately rowdy member of the jury on the head. "Order!" Guy's Uncle let out a low whistle. "These Mardierians are weird-weird." "The jury may now retire," the judge proclaimed, putting the mallet away. The jury promptly filed out and Guy and his Uncle sat down to await their verdict. "By the by, Uncle - what do you think of what's been going on recently back in Oleon? With King Fernando and all?" "King Fernando always does what is best," Guy's Uncle said determinedly. "Oh." Guy looked a little disappointed. "Then I suppose you don't like our little plan to..." "What is best for himself, as I was about to say," Guy's Uncle cut in severely. "Oh! Then, I suppose, you do like our little plan to..." "Yes." At this moment the jury returned, forestalling further conversation. After a short colloquy with the judge, the latter announced, "Gentlemen, the court is adjourned for the day. The jury has requested time." Guy's Uncle whistled again. "Time? Time is money, folks! These Mardierians sure are weird." Guy accompanied his Uncle outside the elaborate building. From the vantage point of the street, they both stopped to look back. Guy's Uncle stared in amazement. "These Mardierians are weird-weird!" And another shot of the interior (which technically is supposed to be the second story): This was a pretty fun build. That pineapple was a blast. Facade was very much inspired by Gideon. C&C welcome! Thanks for looking! Quote
Ayrlego Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Great build! The facade looks quite grand, I love the dark red and white. What are the statues (great use of the chef hat btw!) holding? Not sure about the giant pineapple on top, but it sure is a fine looking pineapple! Not sure if it is unique to my line of work and corner of the earth, but we have an expression regarding pineapples. To be given a pineapple is to be given a really unappealing and possibly quite painful task. Like a special kind of f-you from management - so maybe it's quite appropriate on top of a court house! Oh and that is a wicked looking mallet! Quote

There's something Scrooge McDuck about him. Love your humour. Also hilarious inclusion of the pineapple. Good luck for the voting. Really hope that you get the second place. Wait- there's no second place? Too bad :P Edited April 26, 2016 by Jacob Nion Quote
TitusV Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Gods, I 'm starting to like Guy's uncle so much... Great build, I like the pineapple, and the big hammer was hilarous. Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Very fine build, but - as with all of these story builds - I must have missed some earlier clue, I just don't get what is going on Quote
Fuzzy MacFuzz Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 This is a really great build, lovely attention to detail throughout, though of course I'm personally biased to the architectural stuff over the ships. I'm guessing that getting that pineapple right must have taken you ages...and it was worth it! Quote
Puvel Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Great build and of course Uncle stories are aways brilliant! The exterior looks worthy of a courthouse, the floor and the raised platform look great as well. Giving Guy the rolled up piece of paper is an awesome detail! I'll be a bit picky and ask why there is one tile between the horse and the anvil tapestry and two tiles between the anvil and portrait? The portrait would have been nicely centered above the speaker if it was one tile apart from the anvil. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 So Spongebob is joining our ranks now? Quote
Bregir Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Guy and his uncle are a great couple for these stories! :D And what a fantastic build, Kai, my favourite of the build-off, among some really nice entries. The facade is really nice, as is the interior. Looks very much like a,courthouse to me. And the pineapple,on the roof is fantasticly well built, although I question why those weird Mardierians have put it there. An icon for their god of justice? :P You've got a few things wrong, though... :P ;) When Mardierians shout "pineapple" they are not saying "hear hear", but rather "shut up, you son of an internal lubber and a pest-ridden camel" ! :P :D And surely, they cannot punish L'Olius for acting within his perfectly legal letter from that dude "Marque", tasking him to do just so? If anything, Eslandola should be demanding an explanation from the Vice-Roy of Terraversa. Or perhaps require punishment of him! :O Quote
SilentWolf Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 I really like this build and story. The giant pineapple was awesome and the scene photography was very good. The chairs are also really cool. Great job! Quote
blackdeathgr Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Crazy uncles... everybody has at least one! Quote

Oh and that is a wicked looking mallet! Thanks! The statues are holding... platters of whipped cream? Not quite sure really, but it was about the only sort of food-like piece I had in white. I didn't have one of those nifty minifigure sized mallets, so I figured a gargantium one would introduce a touch more humor. Very fine build, but - as with all of these story builds - I must have missed some earlier clue, I just don't get what is going on Mardier captured one of Eslandola's ships, while the two nations are supposedly at piece, so Eslandola is appealing to Mardier to please give it back. Which it doesn't seem like they're going to do. But thanks! This is a really great build, lovely attention to detail throughout, though of course I'm personally biased to the architectural stuff over the ships. I'm guessing that getting that pineapple right must have taken you ages...and it was worth it! Thank you! Um... actually... I don't think the pineapple took me more than fifteen minutes... it was the window that took ages! Great build and of course Uncle stories are aways brilliant! Thanks! There really isn't any reason for the two tiles. That's just where I put it. I did stick it there before I put the platform into place so I wasn't thinking of that when I placed it. So Spongebob is joining our ranks now? This was just sort of the first thing that popped into my mind with the whole pineapple affair, and I just knew it would be great fun! And we're more than happy to get Mardier's Viceroy in trouble too. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Oh my, what a story Very pretty build as well, with the dark red and white facade, and nicely wood paneled interior Quote
Elostirion Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Great concept with the double-sided build. Amazing pineapple design. And the execution of the facade is amazing, I would love to see that one in a big building. Quote
