Dukesc Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Sir Admiral Duke taking two of his new ships, the Meteor and Galaxie out on their maiden voyage. Sir Admiral Duke talking with one of his ship captains. Captain - Wow these ships sure are fast sir! Admiral - I agree and their maneuverable too! We do have the finest naval architects in the world! Both looking in their telescope. Captain - What's that sir? Admiral - It looks like a rectangular structure of some sort. Captain - Ah, it's a shipwreck! Admiral - Oh yes it's the HMS Fernando! Captain - Maybe we could Salvage some of it? Admiral - No use lad she's Slandie built. Captain - Ay sir, how shall we proceed? Admiral - We came out here to try our new ships, so why don't we see how they do firing a full broadside. Captain - Yes Sir! Fire!!!! I hope you enjoyed it! The Galaxie Quote
TitusV Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Looks really good, tough a bit crowded inside! Nice colours, neat ship Quote
Garmadon Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Neat ship, the sail plan looks very nice, and the broadside and rigging are excellent as well! The bowsprit does look awfully long to me, but as I don't really know whether they work this long or not I'll leave that to those more experienced in shipping! Very nice job overall! Quote
Maxim I Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Very nice warship!! It fits the already very imposant fleet you are building. I don't see a trade function in it although? Quote
Dukesc Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Looks really good, tough a bit crowded inside! Nice colours, neat ship Thank you! It's definitely crowded, but I could imagine real war ships weren't all that roomy. The guns are as close to each other as I am comfortable with, even for the small cannons. And there certainly were ships with crazy long bowsprit's. If you look hard enough you'll find some nearly or just as long as the hull in smaller ships. Very nice warship!! It fits the already very imposant fleet you are building. I don't see a trade function in it although? Thanks! It's licensed as a 4A and I plan to keep it that way. I guess one could argue if you removed some guns, ball, powder and a few lads there'd be plenty of room for cargo. Or maybe not, I don't know? Quote
Bregir Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 And yet another great vessel from the duke! :) And this time with a story and description, something I have missed abit on your other vessels. I like the look of that wreck, and using it for target practise is a great idea. Photography does seem to be your nemesis, but I am sure that will improve in time. Perfect size for a class 4A, and probably the upper limit for size of a single masted vessel. I do agree with Garmadon that for a vessel this size, the bowsprit does seem unnaturally long. Your example is a smaller cutter, I think, and not entirely suitable for a large cutter like yours. My comments to the rigging are similar to your 3A, so I will not repeat myself, apart from saying that it is generally looking very good. Quote
Fuzzy MacFuzz Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Great ships, with those lines they look like they are really built for speed! Great use of the Ollie colour scheme too. I think its fine to argue that the bowsprit is an 'experimental innovation' on these new style super fast vessels. Just one problem though, there doesn't seem to be any crew, only marine gunners! I don't think your photo shopped pictures do your vessels many favours, it makes them look like they are in the sky, maybe that's how they got their names? Your latter pictures are much better for showing off your ships. Corrington will have to work hard to keep up! Quote

I do agree this is probably about max size for a single masted ship. And for the controversial bowsprit. Here is another ship that I referenced: if the tallest little person on here is 6' tall this ship's hull would be around 54' long and the bowsprit is around 90% of the hull length about the same as my ship who's hull is about 50 studs long and the bowsprit is in the 90% range as well. The photo editing is still in the experimental stages much like the photography. Otherwise, here's proof the Oleandors are much more advanced than flying air balloons. About the crew, I barely recall setting it up as I just met the deadline to post as I went on 26 hours without sleep. Maybe I'll let the Marines be Marines in the future rather than pull cannon duty!
