J4ke Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Rebel Alliance U-Wing Dropship(?) by Jake, on Flickr This is a bizarre-looking spaceship. This is the U-Wing, a dropship (apparently) that will feature in Star Wars: Rogue One, a film for which I have much hype. Images of this craft are few and far between, so I had to use my best guess and some artistic license. It's an ungainly looking ship from most angles, but from the 3/4 shot it hides the mass of the troop bay really well. I like it. There's pictures of a couple of Rebels for scale. They can /almost/ stand upright, but not quite. The build itself is as you would expect from me. Delicate as a butterfly's wing. Angles that only work by accident. The troop deck, which you would think should be the starting point, was actually second to the entire top deck. Only the wings and engines were done after that. Speaking of the wings, I'm very pleased by the almost total lack of sagging. Pity the angle of the wings doesn't really leave any options but jagged tiles. So yeah, let me know what you think (add notes if you like, woo, notes!), it's been a while since I've built anything... PS. FIRST! Yeah, seriously. I can't actually be the first person to build this... can I? Quote
evanridpath Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Nice job getting this one built before anyone else! I imagine this will be a fun build to modify over the coming months/year as more source material will become available for comparison. Quote
michaelozzie Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 This is the first MOC of this ship I've seen out there yet. Very good interpretation of the source material, well done. Quote
brickmasterben11 Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Wow! This is impressive. I couldn't even find the troop bay until i looked at the picture of it on flickr. Nicely done. Quote
Ed9217 Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Congrats on being the first to make this, well...that I know of. You've done a good job with this, especially seeing as there are very few photos to go by atm. Quote
General Magma Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Looks good, great job! I was planning on being the first one to make this when the pics were first leaked a while ago, but I kinda dropped it and made plans for other things. So, congratulations on being the first one instead, then. I do wonder if this is anywhere close to minifig scale, though. Quote
Kendo Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Love the ship , it just has this Ralph McQuarrie feel to it ... And I think that minus a couple of studs that could be covered up here and there , and the fact that the "wings" on the front should be angled and not "step-like" ( although there aren't any slopes that long so I get why you did that ) I think you captured it pretty well . Keep up the good work man ! Quote
khatmorg Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Look pretty neat, I really like what you did with the side panel door thing. You got the overall shape and features down for sure. The only thing I would suggest changing is the windscreen piece, as that just looks really off to me. It looks too much like it belongs on a pickup truck or something. Also I like studs, please dont make it studless =P. Quote
delithug Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I do love me some good old fashioned angles over all the curves these days. Quote
Hold0511 Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Nice, I like it - wonder what it would be like in light grey and looking a little worn... Quote
easytiger Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 It seems to be contrary to popular belief but I reckon that the U-Wing is about the best step on from the X-Wing to date....A daring, elegant. potent design which would look great in flight and accompanied by a hand-full of Yavin interceptors, would really push my buttons.... Sound job on the MOC which captures the very essence of late 70's style...Thumbs up!! Quote
SteveOC Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 My initial impression was that it was a bland looking fighter, but after finding out it's a drop ship and seeing it from a slightly different angle I really like it :-) Quote
