[PORSCHE] 962 C Le Mans racer in 1:8,5

Hi!

I present my entry to the Rebrick Porsche contest, a 962 C Le Mans racecar. In this moc I tried out some newly developed techniques. I was happy that I could finish it before the deadline, many, many working hours, days, "sleepless" nights were required to make it.

If I had to choose, the 962 C is my dream Porsche, it exists. A legendary Le Mans racer, the first race car with real ground effect, and a road version was also produced in the nineties.

I tried to design everything to represent the real car, both esthetically and in functionality.

I put every information, explanation into the video, so here I list the main features:

- Full independent suspension, in the rear with rocker arms and angled springs

- 4 speed sequential transmission with indicator in the cockpit

- Automatic friction disk clutch - works when a gear change happens

- Working front brakes with small pneumatic cylinders and air tank

- Brake pedal works, too

- Openable doors and removable rear cover

- HOG steering and working steering wheel

- Kingpin inclination, Ackermann geometry

- Real boxer crankshaft (instead of 180°V)

Details:

Antenna, interior, engine, turbos, rear view mirrors, headlights, windshield wipers, fuel caps, fire extinguisher, instrument panel, radiators, etc.

This looks absolutely beautiful. You nailed the details and lines perfectly, and it can clearly be seen that a lot of time and effort went into this. I especially like the engine bay area. I would absolutely love to have this on my shelf. Is there any chance of you making instructions.

Good question, I thought about this too. The reason is functional: the gearbox needs a long sliding mechanism, and under that, a smooth, homogen surface. Because of this, the gray panels in the right side must be face up. In the other side, there is a hidden compartment for the pump, the up facing panels are better for that, again.

I'd like to make instructions, but I don't know when it will be finished, I'd like to come up with a quality one, and in August my time is much more limited. One thing is sure: instructions will be released one day.

I usually don't like the mix of studded and studless pieces (and some of the building techniques used) but this model is a joy to look at. Maybe I'm a bit too overreacting, but all the exciting details, the mechanical features (the gear indicator at the dashboard for example) place this model (for me) into the ultimate hall of fame.

I agree wholeheartedly... and nope I don't think you're overreacting.

however I disagree with you not liking a mix of studded and studless pieces tho :p I think that's the best way to go about makign beautiful bodywork...

Thank you all! I'm thinking about making an RC version, when I'll have time, maybe with RC unit, or even better with SBrick, because the gearbox needs the servo motor. I only need one more LiPo battery to power it's 2,15 kg weight. I measured today.

Fantastic job! Very interesting gearbox and mechanisms around it, amazing amount of details which show your true fascination both for Technic and for that particular racecar! Perfect use of the Tumbler tires. I like your "beams over flexaxles" very much ! I don´t like so much the busy look of the roof, gaps around all the window parts, rubber pieces at the doors and rubber band supporting the front axle. But anyway I can see some sort of consistency trying not to compomise your original ideas and that´s a great result!

This model has the most ambitious overall package including pneumatics, parts mix, amount of functions and most important - a lot of sweat and tears must have gone into this build! Good luck for the "race" !
