BrickCurve Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 (edited) A quick foray back into GOH before I start on my SHIPtember build. Somewhere on the Avalonian coast, an old soldier of the Avalonian military is enjoying his retirement. I would like to claim the UOP credits for landscape design, trees 3/3, and for Hydrology, Flowing Water. Edited August 30, 2016 by BrickCurve Quote
bricklover Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Wow, great job on this! Is this part of a bigger collab? Quote
BrickCurve Posted August 30, 2016 Author Posted August 30, 2016 UoP.DoH +1 on both credits. Thanks. Wow, great job on this! Is this part of a bigger collab? Thanks! Its possible, though not yet, I need to finish my SHIPtember build as well as my CBC build, not to mention a few other projects... Quote
narbilu Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Wow great job on both the landscaping and the building! Quote
Isundir Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 (edited) The grass field is the best I've ever seen in LEGO, or should I say my personal favorite , the cottage looks really nice. The only thing I'm not sure of are the trees. something feels a bit off, I think it's the leaves standing too upward. Edited August 30, 2016 by Isundir Quote
TitusV Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Lovely build! So peacefull, so... The vegetation is really awesome, and I love the roof of the House! Quote

Your right, I think it may partly be the angle of the trees towards the corner of the MOC, and therefore where the camera was. Thanks for pointing it out, its something I will look at a lot next time. Out of interest, does the technique work as well in my MOC here? The photo was taken from a much higher angle so I think it helps quite a bit with that. Edited August 31, 2016 by BrickCurve Quote
Henjin_Quilones Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 I think the trees are the most interesting part of this build, and I quite enjoy how they look. My only quibble with them is that they lean a bit backwards; if they were a light bit more vertical, I think they would look even better. The angle of the leaves does not upset me in the slightest, as I think the piece is versatile enough to be used in many configurations. The rest of the vegetation, on the other hand, does seem a bit too cluttered to me. It does a great job of conveying lushness and the feeling of tall grass, but it is just so much green; a path to a small dock, or something to break up the mass of green, would improve things aesthetically, in my opinion. After all, an Avalonian soldier in retirement would probably want to spend some time fishing, or at least standing by the shore, and a path to get there would be an improvement on wading through tall grass every time. The cottage, though, is nicely done, and there are many good things to like here. Good job! Quote
Blufiji Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 The foliage is really nicely done, the broad leaved plants stack against the grass is a great look, And I like the trees, they have a natural look to them. I know there are some trees where the leaves go straight up so to me they look pretty real. Great Job! Quote
dathil Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Both the detailing and stonework on the cottage is awesome, the landscape is nice as well, I like the tree design. Quote
Isundir Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Out of interest, does the tech pique work as well in my MOC here? I prefer the shaping there a bit more but I like the green leaves here better then the light green there. Quote

Perhaps if I add a second module... I prefer the shaping there a bit more but I like the green leaves here better then the light green there. I will try and build a version that is somewhere in-between next time! Thanks for the advice! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I rather like the trees, though a few leaves in more of the standard flat orientation at the top might improve them. I'm sure you'll experiment and come up with the way you like best Very lush looking landscape for sure, and the loose water works nicely here Quote
Littleworlds Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 A beautiful and quite serene shack, with very impressive stonework. The old trees look pretty cool too, how they bend organically under their age. Very lifelike. I just wish the guy a nice wife to share this lovely place with Quote

I intend to add a second module soon and rework this one, after SHIPtember and CBC that is! A beautiful and quite serene shack, with very impressive stonework. A good portion of my remotely castle themed mini figures are buried in the sorting so perhaps in the second module. Quote
Columbus019 Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Incredible work BrickCurve! Columbus Quote
eve nightfall Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 (edited) Awsome! The bulding, and the landscape! I really like it! Which leafes did you use behind the grass? I am quite a newbie (and don't recognize the origin of the parts), but I love those! Edited September 3, 2016 by eve nightfall Quote
Kai NRG Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 A very peaceful scene, the grass looks great and the olive for the roof is excellent! +1 for the UoP credits! Quote
x105Black Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 This is a fantastic build! The cottage looks great, but the landscaping is beautiful. I love that overgrown look, and the difference between the grasses and the leaves. The trees are really nice, as well. Getting back to the cottage itself, I really like all of the detailed stonework, but that rooftop looks fantastic. Great job! Quote
LittleJohn Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Very pretty build, BrickCurve. I personally rather like the trees, and the roof of the cottage being covered in leaves was a neat touch as well Quote
BrickCurve Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 Thanks everyone! Awsome! The bulding, and the landscape! I really like it! Which leafes did you use behind the grass? I am quite a newbie (and don't recognize the origin of the parts), but I love those! . They are these ones- http://brickset.com/parts/4106895. As far as I know they haven't been in sets for a while, I got mine through LUG bulk. Quote
eve nightfall Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Thank you for the information! That is the reason I didn't recognize them, I only know the newer sets! Quote
Brandon Stark Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 The grass and plants make this scene very Avalonian, and the trees are nice, made with an interesting technique I think I should try. I also like the water, and the cottage is excellent, especially the vines/plants on the roof of it. Quote
